Might have been a bad flash. Try downloading the file again and reflashing (make sure to set BIOS defaults first).

I found the ISSUE.  I flashed to the latest bios.  bios at defaults.  Same keyboard issues.  I booted into safe mode.  No issues.

I randomly thought I should kill the evga precision x software and it fixed my issue.  The new bios and evga precision x is having conflicting issues.

Have you tried disabling just  GPU power monitoring in Precision to see if that makes any difference?

That seems to have fixed it....Thanks!  I wasn't getting these symptoms with the earlier bios.  What made you think of this?

EDIT: I take that back, the issue came back.

bigmyke...couple of questions:

1.  What is your video card model?
2.  What happens if you totally remove Precision x from your computer?

If i totally remove precision x software. Problem goes away.
If i simply end the processes in the task manager.  Problem goes away.

It has something to do with EVGA precision X.  I have the latest version.

Are the TI's FTW3 or FE, or Black?  If you have FE or Black...you can give MSI Afterburner a try.

There have been scattered reports of applications that poll the GPU for performance metrics causing stuttering. Several indicated that power polling seemed to cause it.

Updated the classy bios today from a usb drive in the bios without issue.  Can't tell any difference in my work or games.  Easy to recreate my modest overclock.  Samsung Magician benchmark shows a huge (like 50%) hit in sequential and random write speeds with my 950pro 1TB sata drive.  Read speeds unchanged.  This is a totally non-scientific and uncontrolled test... more of a before and after thing.

Re: X99 BIOS Update with Spectre updates 2018/01/24 07:17:25 (permalink)
I'll throw my anecdote into the mix:
When I installed the Spectre BIOS update, I immediately noticed that the overall responsiveness of my 5820K dropped further than I would have liked. The worst impact I saw besides what others reported was stuttering every few seconds of software decoded video streams, such as Amazon Prime in Firefox. GPU accelerated video (Amazon Prime in Microsoft Edge, Netflix Win 10 app) was unaffected.

I also noticed that switching browser tabs was perceptably lagging at times (while the video stream was running) when it never did before.

I reverted the BIOS update to the previous version and all the above symptoms went away.  I'm going to leave the old BIOS until Intel releases their next version of the microcode. If it still kills my 5820, I'm hoping I can gain back some of the old performance by doing some light overclocking (assuming that will help at all).

Does this Bios update also address the following issue?
https://newsroom.intel.com/news/intel-security-issue-update-addressing-reboot-issues/
https://www.tenforums.com/windows-10-news/102234-intel-security-issue-update-addressing-reboot-issues.html

No issues with that on my X99 Classified. My understanding is that the reboot issues doesn't affect the X99, just the lower end Broadwell and Haswell processors on the 270 boards.

Yes and no. If I read this guide Intel has recall this microcode regarding Haswell/Brodwell E. The recommend going back to version 0x22 from 0x23/0x25.

I don't see Broadwell-E listed there. Perhaps that's why my 6950X in the X99 Classified isn't having any issues?

So far no problems with random reboots, or slower reboots for me (just did the Bios update on my Classified).

But it looks like this bug might still be in Broadwell-E CPU's (and maybe Haswell-E) so perhaps Evga should make another Bios update for our X99 boards?
Once Intel fixes the bug on their end that is.

EVGA X99 FTW, 32GB 2677, Win 10 64, Mushkin Reactor, various HDDS, GTX 980 SLI. 2.04 BIOS causes video hesitations in Firefox, smooth in Edge, but video games are slugs. Tried using the *.bat installer, and USB flashing also with same result. Had to return to 2.03.

Re: X99 BIOS Update with Spectre updates 2018/01/30 00:28:26 (permalink)
According to Intel https://newsroom.intel.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/11/2018/01/microcode-update-guidance.pdf We should not apply this BIOS update as it may introduce instability ... But they say that we should apply updates as recommended by vendors.

If anyone at EVGA could give us some advice here it would be appreciated. I'm sure we all understand that EVGA is doing an excellent job here, in dealing with errors made upstream. (In other words, let's keep showing EVGA some love because this mess is not their fault)

While many others have confirmed it since, it was myself who discovered that power monitoring was causing stuttering in games. However, even with power monitoring disabled, some (much lesser) stuttering is still present. And, while Intel mostly refer to the issues with these processors as being the sporadic reboots and longer reboot times, they have also referred to general instability. Since the minor stuttering (and we are talking in the region of 0.2ms difference in frametimes for over 99.9% of the frames, so many people don't even notice them) are present in older drivers, this suggests that the stuttering may in fact be triggered by the new microcode and/or windows updates.

Accordingly, I will be downgrading the BIOS to the pre-spectre patches and see how I go. I've been performing extensive tests so it will take me some time to return with results.

Quick update, the frametime spikes (stuttering) with power monitoring is still a thing with the older BIOS/microcode. As for the rest, I'll take a couple of days to confirm.

I did have some instability problems with 2.0.5 and it was fixed going back to 2.0.4, x99 classified, 5930k, no OC, also flashed 2.0.5 again after the first time (re-downloaded it too) in case it was a bad flash, but it didn't change anything til I flashed back to 2.04
