hopefully they do release an bios update, not leaving FTW/classy/Sli users in the dust or forced to upgrade to dark.

I think the star of the EVGA mobo show now is the X79 Dark, when EVGA have fixed and released enough BIOS updates for the X79 Dark, only then EVGA will start to support and work again with BIOS updates for the older EVGA X79 motherboards

Oh I forgot to ask will an ivy bridge cpu if installed without the bios update even run, like maybe as an older cpu? I'm looking at buying a used EVGA X79 Classified and it won't have a cpu at first, I'd love to buy an Ivy Bridge like a i7 4820 without having to buy an older cpu just to flash a bios.

Unfortunately I don't think that will be possible.  On occasion the new CPU will be incorrectly identified, the multiplier/speed might be wrong etc, but at least if it posts you can then apply the update, but from what I've read about the various x79 boards (not just EVGA) I get the feeling that in this instance you'll need a Sandy Bridge chip.

Without wishing to go off topic, it would be great if Jacob/WShelly could provide some similar reassurance that a BIOS update is coming to enable Ivy-E Xeon support for SRX users.

The sentence can be a bit misleading, is EVGA working on:

"We are working on a BIOS update for Ivy-E FTW/Classy/Sli" ?

    Or

"We are working on a BIOS update for Ivy-E Dark"  ?

And from what I read elsewhere, EVGA has a trade up program to the X79 Dark, most likely that won't apply to someone who buys the motherboard used, like off of ebay. I'm still hoping for a Bios upgrade, as I won't be buying no X79 Dark motherboard, My income won't allow that, I'm more interested in the pci-e slots and how they're supported, like the 6/8 pin plug for clean power to the video cards while under load, that's why I'm replacing the current and old Asus in My sig, the current motherboard can't supply enough voltage to the video cards and so with drivers newer than 266.58 under Win7 x64 sp1, I've noticed downclocks to 405MHz on the GTX580 and the GTX570, both at the same time or on one card or the other card individually, just while I crunch for Seti'@'Home 12/7. Psu of course doesn't matter, I've tried a ST1500 and I'm currently using an 850w Corsair psu.

That's already done and released (though further tweaks are still needed).  I'm typing this on a Dark/Ivy-E.

That's nice of EVGA, of course that doesn't help those who are wanting to run IVY-Bridge on their X79 SLI, FTW and Classified motherboards, I will just have to trust what EVGA has said is true, that a Bios for each will be forth coming, soon. I expect to buy My X79 Classified motherboard on October 1st and the 4820K cpu sometime in December 2013, that's as soon as I can do that and it won't be a Sandy cpu, just a 4820K since My income is limited and no there is no one near Me who could loan Me a 3820 cpu so that I could do the Bios flash and from what I've read this can't be done blind, so an RMA would be needed since I think that the bios is soldered down.

That's definitely not going to work.  A X79 Classified that's been in retail stock for the past year isn't going to be updated.

Sorry, but you want to make sure you grab a board that's Ivy-E ready before it's turned on, unless you have a friend that will loan you a Sandy-E CPU.

No such luck I live in the desert out here, the most advanced PC around outside of Mine is an old LGA775 PC a friend built, there is one that's newer, but the park owns that PC and it's circa 2007-2008 and it's an OEM PC. So basically you're saying that EVGA will not help at all beyond supplying the Bios, when it's released that is? No wonder people here and there are selling off their old EVGA LGA2011 motherboards. I'll have to ask in Number crunching if anyone has a spare 3820 cpu that they could loan Me, but then I do know how to flash a Bios, but then I started with computers in 1980.

So you are saying, it's the X79 Dark or nothing when it comes to an EVGA X79 motherboard?

If so why did EVGA_WShelley say EVGA is working on one for IVY-E?

If you start up an X79 motherboard that isn't the Dark(unless the Dark in the Sandy-E BIOS) with an Ivy-E processor you will get an FF post code and wouldn't get anywhere. You would need a Sandy-E processor in order to get the system up and flash it.

I really can't speak to what they can or can't do in your situation. I can only advise you that even if they agree to flash it for you, by the time you pay to ship it to them, it may be more cost-effective to get a board that's already ready-to-go.

Right now an EVGA X79 dark is going for about $400.00, I've looked around and the ones I'd want are similar in price, where as the X79 Classified I'm getting, is going to cost Me about $205.00 or so, as I'm waiting for an invoice so that I can pay for it on the 1st, shipping a motherboard on rma I'm not worried about, it's a minor cost, it's far cheaper than buying two cpus and out here I'm pretty much an island, but then I already run more advanced hardware than the surrounding area, but no 2011 type cpus, I'd be surprised if some even had a PC out here, but whatever.

The tiny small BIOS chip is not soldered, it is actually removable and swappable, when the the EVGA BIOS update for X79 FTW/SLI/Classy will be available, EVGA can send you this tiny little BIOS chip (by letter) and you can just swap with the older BIOS chip

I would think it would be far less hassle to just get a 3820 or 3930K, which we know works.  Performance difference is quite minimal, say 10% or less.  Sure, it's not the "latest and greatest" CPU, but I am sure it is more than adequate.  Really only benefit I see going Ivy-E is lower power consumption and slightly lower temps.  I don't see any reason to upgrade, maybe when X99 comes.

I'm needing to upgrade, my x58 motherboard is having issues..  I was going to buy a X79 Classified + Ivy Bridge but it seems like I would be unable to use it for some unknown amount of time...

As for stepping down to Sandy Bridge, that defeats the purpose for the people running older hardware.  That will put you roughly 20% behind haswell at around the same price.  As for the Dark, that's really more than I want to spend on a board.

I've been putting it off for as long as I could waiting to see some movement on either the haswell support, or Ivy Bridge support.  Hopefully something will come up soon..

The tiny small BIOS chip is not soldered, it is actually removable and swappable, when the the EVGA BIOS update for X79 FTW/SLI/Classy will be available, EVGA can send you this tiny little BIOS chip (by letter) and you can just swap with the older BIOS chip

zoom314 ....so an RMA would be needed since I think that the bios is soldered down.

Thanks, info on the X79 classified is hard to come by, as there doesn't seem to be even 1 review.

You do know that you'll have to buy DDR4 ram for X99 don't you?
