Hi all,a I am running a core i7 920 on an x58 sli le. I want to try and upgrade my cpu and am getting a really good deal on an "2.66GHz Intel Xeon Six-Core X5650 3200MHz 6.4GT/S 12MB L3 Cache Socket LGA1366 SLBV3". Will this work with no problem on this board? There is also a "Intel Core i7 975 Extreme Edition 3.33GHz 8M L3 Cache LGA1366 Desktop Processor" for twice the price but i am trying to keep cost down while making a decent upgrade. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

What revision is the board? It's on the bottom left edge of the mobo.
If it's a Rev 1.0 you will have to do some soldering but if it's Rev 1.1 or 1.2 it should work just fine.

Thanks for the quick reply. Evga also responded and said it would fit but didnt mention anything about soldering. It is rev. 1.0, and i really dont want to do any soldering. Is there a 6 core processor that will fit with no issues?

The i7 970 is the cheapest 6 core I know of that will work without mods.

Got you. Yeah i was reading that i need the westmere mod which is like $50 plus cost of shipping. Personally do you think its worth it or should i just look for an inexpensive used i7 970? Thanks

bill1024 Since the W series 1366 xeon is a single qpi xeon, with just a bios update, would work??? I am not sure myself, I think I remember someone saying they do. w3670 w3680 w3690
I think you still have to mod it for those to work. If you can get the xeon and the mod done for cheaper than the i7 970 then I'd do that. What do you use the system for anyway? You may not even see much of difference after upgrading if you just game on it.

Is this still even a viable mobo for use even after this age? I have someone near me selling a x58 760 with 12gb ddr3 1600 and Xeon X5670. Really contemplating on getting this but with so much new things out there would i be able to still upgrade gpu and have decent performance?

Well i may just take this x58 classy 760 off this guys hands. I wasn't sure how well they would still preform compared to todays new gpus. was going to buy 3 550 ti and slap them in this for a decent gaming pc build for cheap. Just not sure what PSU i would need for all of it.

The x58 sli3 will run the xeons also without a mod, if you can find one. I have one with a x5680 that is working great on windows 10.
