Folks,

Hope someone out there can help...

I’m helping a friend install an X299 dark. All was working well until we upgraded the BIOS from the shipped version (V1.04) to the current V1.09.

We updated the BIOS on the middle switch setting using the batch file from Windows 10.

No issues or power interruptions during the upgrade. When the system restarted, we were greeted by “CMOS Checksum error. Press F1 skip, F12 Enter Setup

Pressed F12, entered BIOS and saved it. System restarted and immediattly opened into the BIOS screen. Tried restarting several times with the same result.

Now we can’t get beyond BIOS. Tried to switch back to the V1.04 by switching the BIOS switch. When the system restarts, it goes to the BIOS screen of the older version. If I save and exit, system restarts and enters the BIOS screen.

I haven’t tried the CMOS Reset Button yet... wasn’t well documented on how to use it.

When switching between the 2 bios I recommend switching off the PSU or unplugging it and hold the start button down till all the lights are off on the board to insure everything is flushed from the memory. Yes on hold the clear CMOS down. Once again you will be greeted with that initial screen that asks if you want to entire setup. After you have done that all following boots should be good

What video card are you guys using? If it is not an 20** series card (does not have an USB port in on the video card) then I would try bios 1.08 in switch position 2. Boot the system with the original bios (position 1) then while in the bios switch to position 2 then do the bios flash while in the bios - The section is in the far right Save & Exit tab - easy enough to do. You just need to load the bios file to a thumb drive and have it slotted into the system before you boot

    From the bios page:

    BIOS Installation
    • Extract the contents of .zip file to USB flash drive (must be formatted as FAT32)
    • Reboot the machine and go into the system BIOS
    • From the BIOS, navigate to the Save & Exit tab and open "Select BIOS File."
    • Select the .bin file you wish to flash.

The video cards are a pair of NVidia Titan X boards in a two way SLI.

    Will try and report back.

    Thanks!
