I know its an old board, but windows 7 works perfect with it but when I upgraded to 10, it's been randomly crashing. It all seems to point to drivers, which I've noticed in control panel are all the ones provided by Microsoft. I can manually update graphics, which is easy enough, but I was wondering if there's a way I can force the "old" nforce drivers on here to see if it's more stable? I've also noticed when I try to install 15.58, it only gives me the options for ethernet and storage drivers. Are these the only ones I can install then? I've already been back to 7 and now trying 10 again before its too late. Just wondering if anyone has had success with windows 10 and this board and what you did. I just would think if it worked fine with 7, most likely should work with 10. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Since NVIDIA stopped support for the chipsets this might be your only solution:

Thank you for the reply. I have tried those as well but with no success. It does not update the windows driver. So i'm wondering if forcing the drivers, with the latest drivers from Nvidia (or from Fernando) would be more stable? It only allows me ethernet and harddrive drivers, so not sure if I can even really do much anyways. When I'm connected to the internet, I will randomly lose signal with the monitor. If I unplug the ethernet from the back, I get dpc watchdog violations. Windows 7 does not crash. So any other suggestions would be helpful if you or someone can think of something else I can try before I clean install back to 7.

Due to the age of the chipset my suggestion is that you roll back to Windows 7 and stay there until you decide on a full PC upgrade.

Yea, that will be the last resort and will at least work. Just a shame, because I'm not having any performance issues, just randomly crashes on 10. Even Creative still supports my sound card. Might have to find another 775 board that might work with 10 better. My search continues. Thanks, it's for sure the best answer that will resolve the issue.

Anyone else with suggestions or if you think of something else, would be helpful.

Maybe try Snappy Driver Installer from Major Geeks and see if it coughs up anything about the chipset driver..I seen a post from another forum member here and decided to try it myself..I thought my drivers were up to date..Wrong..It found newer drivers (with signature) than on my mobo mfgr's website and even on Intel's driver website or using the Intel Driver Update Utility (which will do you no good anyway with an NVIDIA chipset)..I guess it's not rated as "Geek-o-licious" for nothing, as I rated it too..There are other "Driver finders" around, but may contain adware/bloatware/malware, Snappy does not..I'm impressed..My 790i FTW bit the dust so I can't verify it for the old hardware, but try it and see how it works for you.

Another excellent place to find drivers is Station-Drivers, but I didn't see anything there for Win10/780i mobo.

Otherwise, revert back to Win7 as the guys above said..Hope that helps..Let us know.

Well I was going to submit an image, but I guess I can't. It looks like it only has the Nvidia HD audio and some airplane button. It says chipset driver, the top header says: Update and Current, The update has a "version number" and the current says "missing". The next header says: For this Computer and says "no". So I guess that means they did not find an update.

Does this also mean I don't have any chipset driver installed?

You probably don't have any NVIDIA Chipset Driver, just generic Microsoft ones..But you could check and see in Device Manager -> System Devices to see if there's an NVIDIA Chipset Driver shown.

Near the top of Snappy, does it say "Updates are available: X driverpacks (Click here to download)"?..Where X would be the number of driverpacks available..Then a new menu pops up to show the available drivers you can download and maybe there's an NVIDIA Chipset listed..If not, then Snappy won't work for you and you'll have to continue your Win10 driver search (which will probably be an exercise in futility) or go back to Win7 and we can put this in the "Just a thought that didn't work out" catagory..That's about all I can tell you..Good luck.

I do not see any shown in the control panel. I had a thought of forcing the old drivers, but I don't know where or what the chipset driver is under to force it. Any idea where it would be located in control panel? Does it have it's own tab or is it under another one?

    I also found this: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/271288-29-chipset-drivers

If you look at the best solution all the way down on the bottom, it appears (for that board) that there were two different companies making the same ports for SATA and LAN. So you could swap to the other one and not have to worry about the drivers is my understanding. Any thoughts?

I don't just use the computer for games, so upgrading is a little more complicated of a process for me, but yes, I'm just asking for anyone to throw out ideas and if I can't find something to work after exhaustive searching (I'm a stubborn mule) then I'll go back to 7 and call it day as I did before. I'm not looking for a quick fix, just any ideas that come to anyone's mind

As far as I remember the chipset driver was shown in Device Manager somewhere under System Devices, but I forget exactly and my 790i FTW is gonzo so I can't look.

I don't know if you'd have to worry about those drivers or not.

Something you could do if you wanted, and have enough hard disk space, is to go back to Win7 and then create another drive partition and put Win10 on it to fool around with..That way you could dual-boot Win7 and Win10 like I do.

I do not see it under there which I also thought it was located there as well. Anyway to force that to install I've tried to install the driver and apparently doesn't do anything. I used to have to set restrictions on the driver policy in windows to get my graphics drivers to install, maybe something similar?

That is a good idea, I used to do that with windows 7 so that I could use one for random stuff and the other for more important stuff. I might do that, thanks!

I also have a 780i board & it has the NVidia doesn't support it anymore blues too . It's ashamed that I've updated 2 Intel based boards of the same vintage to Win 10 64bit just fine . They have current support , but not NVidia's older products . I updated my sister's 780i board to 10 & so far it hasn't had any issues (yet) . Maybe she hit the silicon lottery on hers .

Yes, I hear its hit or miss (though far more misses from my research) but yes I agree, I've read of Pentium 4's running it as well. I will never be buying another Nvidia/EVGA board that's for sure. I hope that works out for her and if it doesn't, I don't have anymore answers for you! Just SOL apparently. So much for my sister's luck on that motherboard . Ran the pc the other day for the Windows update & the video drivers crashed , leaving a black screen . Had to reboot to get it back . Unfortunately it has been over 30 days now , so no rollback . Intel boards have updated chipset drivers , why is NVidia so greedy that they can't upgrade theirs ? I'm looking at finding an AMD card to try in either hers or mine to see if it will work .

First of all you can't blame EVGA for lack of NVIDIA support on their old motherboards. That was NVIDIA's decision and the 780i is about 10 years old as well. So that is long past end of life. Stick with Windows 7 for that motherboard.

I hear you loud and clear! I've had that happen to me a few times now and windows should of had a longer window (pun not really intended but it fits) to rollback. A new card won't fix it though, you will run into other issues, trust me, it seems like a graphics card problem but will randomly crash either way. Good luck!

I realize what you're saying, but when 50 percent of all computers are still running Windows 7 and would be Xp if it they didn't stop the support, you'd think companies would stand behind products that work instead of forcing you buy hardware you don't need. I realize computers are a quick turn and burn, but don't be surprised we choose different companies because of you or your parent companies decisions. I can blame EVGA for changing their warranty though, right...

I will be sticking with 7, that's been the only solution.
