µ is the greek symbol for mu. In the metric system, it is the symbol for micro having a value of 10^-6. In this case, it is technically accepted that an acceptable abbreviation for microcode is µcode, or, more hastily, ucode.

Now that your request is made clear, I hope that EVGA will give you the microcode update you are looking for.

I'll remember to precisely critique every post you make for exact and precise terminology and spelling and grammar. Ask yourself why you're intentionally trying to be annoying. Grow up.

Hello,

If I am not mistaken, you are referring to the microcode? There was a BIOS update in April for the X99 FTW K that addressed this: https://www.evga.com/support/download/showdlinfo.aspx?id=15431&type=N&acctype=BIOS&accversion=2.05&part_number=151-BE-E097

Hopefully this is what you were looking for!

-Jacob B.

Of course not. I'm already running 2.05. Why would I be looking for an old BIOS update when I am specifically asking for the ucode update to address the latest issue of overclocking being disabled via in OS ucode update by intel? They ARE INCOMPATIBLE. Holy cow....you must know of this issue.

In your original post, it was unclear what you were referring to. Your thread topic was directed at the ucode which I assumed to be "µcode" aka microcode. I was simply reiterating it to ensure there was no confusion and that everybody was on the same page as the thread progressed. There may be some new users who are not familiar with the terminology.

That being said, your original post referenced that other vendors are patching their products and it has been months. Since you specified the time frame of months, I assumed that you may have simply missed or overlooked the BIOS update for the microcode update.

I do apologize for the assumptions made. I was attempting to help with the information given from your original post.

I personally do not have any information regarding any future possible BIOS updates. I would be happy to look into this for you however. I seem to not be aware of what update you are looking for regarding overclocking being disabled. Would you please provide me with some more information regarding the update you are looking for for your X99 board so that I can attempt to get some information for you. Feel free PM me so that I get an email notification with the information.
----------
Side note: Please be more friendly to each other :)

Regeneration is a user on this forum who provided an unofficial microcode update for EVGA X58 motherboards after EVGA declined to do so. If after working with EVGA, if EVGA proves to be unable or unwilling to assist you, Regeneration may be able to assist you.

Looks like I've just ran into this issue. I noticed my CPU clocks were back to stock, wasn't sure what happened so I went back into my bios, fuddled around in there for _quite_ some time to no avail. Did some googling and found that it seems to be an issue with the October update for windows, 1809.

I updated from 2.01 to 2.05, that didn't fix this issue. The issue simple is that overclocks set in the bios are not appearing once in windows. Looking around at other threads (linked in this thread), it seems we need a bios update to fix this.

For reference, I'm on an i7-6800K and X99 FTW K board.

Re: Any plans for a ucode update for our boards? I'm not ready to buy a new one. 2018/10/08 05:30:27 (permalink)
In my case, the problem is far more serious than just CPU clocks going back to stock. I'm on an i7-5820K and a X99 FTW motherboard, running the latest available BIOS (2.05). A couple of weeks ago, Windows update automatically installed update KB4100347 (which contains the new Intel microcode) on my system. After shutting down and restarting, my system was completely unable to boot past the initial bios screen. All I got was a black screen. After a couple of boot attempts, Windows automatically went into troubleshooting mode. After digging around in boot log files using the command prompt, I found this error message in one of them:

"Boot critical file c:\efi\microsoft\boot\resources\custom\bootres.dll is corrupt."

All my attempts to use Windows' built-in repair tools failed, so I started googling for solutions. Soon, I discovered this:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/kb4100347-caueses-infinate-autorepair-loop-on/2ae27ac5-12fc-43b6-a6bc-d3ae0774d724

At this point, I realized KB4100347 was the probable cause of my boot issue. Long story short, I eventually managed to uninstall the update, and my computer immediately returned to normal, like nothing ever happened.

I hid the offending update using a Microsoft-provided troubleshooting tool, permanently preventing it from getting reinstalled, but things have now gotten more complicated, since the update is now bundled with Windows version 1809. This is a very serious problem, and I need some kind of a fix for it. Any help is much appreciated.

Hemi, thanks for doing this, was going to start a thread myself.  To EVGA, this related issue with the micro-code, and Windows 10 issues has been documented more than once on these same forums, and among other sites as well.  The "uninstall" the update and then block it will work for a time, but there needs to be a bios update to address the issues related.  I'd like to hope you guys would take care of this, as other manufactures have already addressed the issue..

Just to update, I have sent Jacob a PM with more details and other examples of other boards having the same issue and being issued BIOS updates.  Granted, I could have been exactly more precise in AGAIN Identifying this issue. Of course having a  MOD BURY THE LAST ONE I MADE ON THIS TOPIC in the deserted section of the forum, certainly slowed down the process.

We'll see how this goes. I don't expect it this week. But, this is just a simple ucode update and should be an easy one. Like I said, this has been ignored for awhile and EVGA IS still selling the X99 actively on their store.

For those interested, I've sent HeavyHemi a Beta BIOS to test for the X99 FTW K, which is the only Beta BIOS available right now.  Beyond that, my understanding is that official BIOS updates to address this issue will take at least another week.

Okay, so far so good. System is using the mcu update from 9/15/18 or the current one which was causing issues. Wiped the BIOS and did a clean USB BIOS flash.  System so far has acted perfectly normal. Clocks work normally. I've reset up my standard 4.5ghz overclock and BIOS settings and every thing works as it should....well except for the BIOS version...0.00 that's a little too retro...
Thanks for the work EVGA.

Nice! Thank you for the update

Are you also have overclocking issues on your X99 under Windows 10 1809?

I'm in the slow ring for Windows 10 updates for a reason (still on 1709 - but I do have a 6950X (that I bought used for cheap) and a X99 Classified).

What microcode patch version do you have showing in the bios CPU info Heavy?  I updated mine with version B00002E and overclocks are working in 1809.

Thanks to EVGA for the work on this and to HeavyHemi for the much needed little bump.

I understand that Intel and MS together are creating an ever-moving set of goalposts for OEMs with the firmware issues recently, so it is good to see EVGA doing their best to keep up. I've no intention of replacing this board any time soon, but when performance dictates that I do, this is the kind of thing that will make me lean toward EVGA as the brand of choice. Not to mention my choice of video cards, and I'll be upgrading that, soon.

I look forward to the finalised new firmware being released publicly shortly.

KB4090007 actually just installed on my Windows 10 1709 and killed the OC on my 6950X (X99 Classified). GG M$, GG.

Uninstalled it, rebooted - BAM! Back to 4.4GHz. Sigh.

Mine was capped at 3.5GHz all cores as well, even though the BIOS was configured for 4.4GHz all cores. After removing this micro code windows update and rebooting, my CPU worked at 4.4GHz all cores as it should (and wasn't capped at 3.5GHz all cores).

Re: Any plans for a ucode update for our boards? I'm not ready to buy a new one. 2018/10/17 13:28:05 (permalink)
I'm not sure why the chipset driver stuff is in this thread. It's off topic and has it's own thread.

The ucode Broadwell-E "update"  from MS is 0xB00002C. For Broadwell-E the ucode being used to update the BIOS is the latest 0xB00002E from intel.  I'm using the latest patches and  mcu update from MS and no issues with overclocking or anything else.
The BIOS will be out shortly.
