Sucks.. I've got a brand new evga 1080ti ftw3 elite sitting here in the box that I'm going to be installing in the next half hour.. not good vibes already and I've yet to power it up!

Glad I bought it from a local microcenter but they will prob ban me after returning the 10-11 other 1080s a year ago :/

Just out of curiosity, why did you return the 10-11 other 1080s? and what happened to that 1080 now? what ftw3 elite color did you get?

It's not a thermal issue. The cat that started the original thread about it is under water on his FTW3 and he was the one to bring it to everyone's attention. Don't get me wrong, I love the card and it has preformed perfect for me. It's just if it says it should do something, well.

I just kept changing my mind after buying a pair of 1080s. All cause of how I wanted to water cool them.

First 1080 was a zotec amp edition. Was good. When I pairs another they were cooking hot. So exchanged for 2 pny fe cards.. thought it was smarter with the blower coolers.. cooled better but too damn loud. Went and bought water cooling for them but after reading it would viod warranty adding water blocks exchanged for 2 evga cards.

Went on vacation to Disney land and got an email that the evga ftw hybrid was in stock.. finally got my order threw for 2 of those! Returned the evga fe cards.

Then one had the black screen 100%+ fan issue that was going around cause of something faulty with them.. had a soft recall as I remember.. called and had both returned to evga.. Went to microcenter and grabbed 2 evga classifieds since evga was out of stock.

First card tested perfectly! 2nd card had an issue at even running bone stock clocks with 0 boost. Voltage 1 all day long on load even as low as I could clock the card was I believe was 1600. Exchanged!

The 3rd classified was the same! Figures as the serial number was a sibling! 4th card was fine like the first card.. solid.. 0 limits come up no matter what. Solid clocks.

Think that's 12! Haha

And yes my luck sucks as the new evga 1080ti ftw3 elite card has big problems!! Can't put a large load on the card without tossing up power/Voltage limits!!! Heat is fine at 50-53c on load. I can't run it in the firestrike 4k test at all without solid temp/power/Voltage limits coming up pretty much solid!!

I've even ran the card in debug mode with no boost mode active and it comes up with power and voltage limits!! :/ :/ seemed half ok with the firestrike extreme test which I think is just 1080 res.

So it's either a weak evga super nova 750watt psu going or another bad 1080!

Testing the elite card in my son's system since he had 980sli in it air cooled so I could swap it in there quick.

I gota make sure the card is fine before I remove all the water cooling as my 1080 classifieds are water cooled.

Sucks to be me.. it's either run and exchange the card or spend an hour pulling my psiu out from my main rig to the spare rig to test it.

I see.. my new elite card don't like anything over 100% power or it throws out a power limit 1. :/

Might be the 3 year old psu in my son's rig.

I think it's about the options you get with it. The cost might be a little bit more but it's not that bad and if you are spending that kind of money it's worth spending the bit extra to get the features to really make it special inside the case.

The power supply has nothing to do with the power limit.
Increase the power % to make the power limit occur later; and/or switch to secondary VBIOS to unlock higher power limits.

This, but while the slave vBIOS allows the program to go to 127% power it still caps and calls for power limit at 117% on the FTW3 model.  No word from EVGA on this as to why.

When the piwer limit is going off it's no where near where I maxed out the power limit bar.

It's going back today.

Tested again with the oc and memory sliders all the way to the left.. like -200 on clock and -500 on the memory and it's still tossing out power limit 1 and voltage limit in firestrike ultra 4k test.

Looks like a dud.. can't power itself to handle 4k.. does the same in bf1 in 4k.

Got the new card but can't test it out till later tonight. It's an older serial number. Fingers crossed as the microcenter staff took a long list of my past returns.. thought they were gona tell me i cant exchange it but did anyways.

Is everyone's ftw3/elite 1080ti have dancing clocks?? Like every 2 secs it either goes up or down?

Returned the one cause it would do that cause it would keep tossing up a power/voltage 1 all the time..

I've exchanged 2 1080 classifieds cause it would do the same randomly for no apparent reason.. not heat related! 2 out if 4 would never clock dance or throw up a limit.

Now the only 2 evga ftw3 1080ti elite cards (only 1080ti cards for that matter) do this and is that the norm??

I can't see me exchanging this card again.. they won't let me!

Tempt never goes above 53c in firestrike benchmark..

I haven't seen dancing clocks like this since the 1080 fe cards!

To me it looks like a weak card and it's tossing up limits to constantly clock it down so it don't get damaged.

Power regulation should be solid on these card unlike the fe cards with non over the top power regulation.

Wondering if other brand are the same for the 1080ti.

Two reasons for me.
Dual bios ( a must), and having dual 8 pin for power.  I cant stand having one 8 and then one 6 with two connectors dangling (literally un-usable at that point).

Mine dances only in Time Spy Extreme, on the second graphic cards run to be precise.
Other than that, it is usually rock solid at 1980Mhz~.

Even if you have a 1000w PSU, I would test it in a different RIG just to make sure my PSU wouldn't be faulty as well.
It's looking like more a power delivery issue than the GPU Power Control Itself.

My elite dances all over the place on superposition 4k optimized o.c. or bone stock. There is a problem, we all know there is a problem whether it is on EVGA's side or Nvidia's side. It is not a PSU issue, a program issue, or any of the other excuses we have received. It is throttling no matter what you do, there is a problem and EVGA had tried once and could not recreate it . Anybody else here getting a little hot under the collar about this?

Just for laughs I took and adapted a cover over my ac vent and routed it into the side of my DG-87 case right against my FTW3 card. I recorded the temps from the vent at 48 degrees with my fluke. On 4k my GPU never broke 53 degrees and again it bounced off the power limit of 117% on slave bios over and over and over again. 53 degrees folks, and I was dropping clocks in the 100 to 125 mhz region. THERE IS A PROBLEM!

Was testing a single 1080 classified tonight on my main pc comparing it to a 1080ti ftw3 elite in bd1 4k.

Anyways.. the 1080 classified was doing it's max overclock which I always run it st 2190mhz at 1.050v. Checked the power durring this and it was only hovering around 80-90% power. So it don't need the 127% to max out.
