As mentioned previously BYU is a private college/university so there are rules that students there must obey. I recommend this guy transfer to another college that doesn't worry about your private sex life.

RBIEZE

Invasion of privacy, plain and simple...

You don't get it either.  It's not an invasion of anything if you agree to the rules beforehand--which he did--at a private institution.

Tweaked

BYU is a private institution, and he knew the rules before he began attending there.  If he did not hold the same beliefs and did not intend on following the rules, he should have picked a different college.  It's not discrimination, it's their right to exercise their religious freedom, and uphold the values they believe in.

I know that this is of a religious nature, but I had to speak up.  I defer all moderation of this thread to another mod.

I'm not a religious man but, I agree with you 110%. He knew the rules of the college and broke them.. End of story.. I don't care if he was a basketball star rules are rules... People get kicked out of college all the time for violating rules! This kids only in the news because of BYU basketball nothing more...

From a legal standpoint, most of the discussion in this thread defending the student is irrelevant.  Short and simple, the kid was made aware of the policy before accepting a scholarship.  The kid accepted the scholarship, and the terms of the scholarship, which included the rule he violated.  The kid knew that violation of the rules could involve him being removed from the team.  He knowingly broke the rules.  He was dismissed.  For anyone who wants to discuss a legal case, yes, please, by all means go for it.

I didn't agree with a lot of George Carlin's politics, but he was razor sharp about a lot of things. His form of comedy was just right right mix of sarcasm, satire and current events. It's a shame he's gone. There are countless comedians out there trying to be relevant to current events and very few come off with the same presence Carlin had. He's pretty irreplaceable as far as recent comedians go.

My guess is a lot of people in that school don't abide by that guidelines. It's his fault for letting it be known publicly.

Yea I think all the team should be truthful, bet almost all of them will be off the team and then what will the college do. LOL

I did not read the article, how'd they find out anyways, they do it on the deans desk or something.

What the heck just read that "honor" code and you can have members of the opposite sex over to your off campus apartment but they can not use your bathroom or go in your bedroom. LOL
What if you have a one room apt?
Can't use the bathroom, what a bunch of nut jobs.

This is not all that unusual.

I went to a small Baptist college in the early 80's. The girls dorm was locked down at 11:30 PM any girl that came in after that had to check in to get in, and was subject to school discipline. Just meant, If you could keep her out late, you could keep her out all night.  You were required to attend church services twice a Quarter, and no Alcohl permitted, But it was a dry county anyway.
http://www.truett.edu/component/content/article/816-prospective-students
Looks like the times have been changed ( Cut and past from Handbook)
Curfew
Resident students are required to be present in their assigned residence hall by the following times:
Sunday – Thursday nights: 1:00 a.m.
Friday – Saturday nights: 2:00 a.m.

Chapel Attendance
The chapel series is an integral part of the educational experience at TMC. As such, attendance is required of all students.
Students who miss chapel will be subject to sanctions

  Student-College Partnership
Enrollment at Truett-McConnell College establishes a relationship between the student and the college. The faculty andadministration pledge their best to assist the student with his/her educational and spiritual growth. The student commits to work
and study conscientiously, to abide by the demands of group living, and to abide by the moral and spiritual standard that makes
Truett-McConnell College a Christian institution.

Students who will not be in their residence hall by curfew must gain prior approval from their Resident Director and sign out for the night(s). Resident Assistants may conduct room / residence hall checks to verify the presence of all students not signed out on
a nightly basis.
their work schedules and other commitments such that they do not conflict with chapel. Tardiness (entering chapel more than five minutes late or leaving chapel before it is over) is highly discouraged and will be counted as an absence. up to and including suspension from the college.

Purely baseless speculation on my part but she was probably doing someone else in a position of authority in the school that was smart enough to keep their mouth shut about it and they didn't like he was doing her too. That's the typical hypocritical answer now a days anyways.
