I used uniengine superposition to overclock ftw3ultra 3080 and got +120 on the core and +1500 on the memory(its not using ecc, if i go lower score drops, and if i go higher it drops off a ton), but then i had timespy crash unless i went back to stock profile with no oc, and i had a couple game crashes as well, but also on stock profile in timespy on leaderboards im in worst 1%, but with any kinda overclock i get instant crash on second graphics test. On superposition benchmark and stresstest it does just fine and same in a few games i tried except project cars 3 crashes within a min of launching it.

    Link your timespy results.

My best so far https://www.3dmark.com/spy/14523113 I tried +700 mem and +150 gpu and crashed so now testing 130 gpu as 125 was my previous best. My voltage slider is all the way up also.

The benchmark that will stress the GPU enough to get a good idea of what is stable for all games would be 3DMark's Port Royal (it uses ray tracing, and will stress the GPU more than Time Spy). You can loop it with the stress test function.

The Boundary benchmark is pretty neat

Sure but if he's crashing in timespy he's already got a limit somewhere

Yeah, likely the +1500 on the VRAM

That's why I recommended Port Royal - it didn't let me get stupid with my VRAM OC.

The OCs are much higher in Port Royal than with Time Spy...

like i said i tested it with lower vram oc and my score was lower, on superposition 4k leaderboard on 3090s, 2080tis with ln2 and only 1 3080 is faster and that one is watercooled, mine is aircooled and its 2nd fastest 3080 so i would say my vram oc is fine, if i go lower my score drops, and if i go higher it drops off a ton, i started at like 500 for memory oc and was adding 200 at a time and my score was going up each time

According to your first post you are crashing - or as I like to call it, the very definition of "not fine." But you do you.

and im not disagreeing that vram oc is most likely whats making it crash, its just with previous gpus i always used uniengine benchmarks and never had issues in games, and its 100% stable at 120 on core and 1500 on mem oc, and its not error correcting since if i drop mem oc even by 50 my score starts dropping

Yeah, Port Royal and Superposition take the same OC numbers.

Time Spy and Fire Strike are a lot harder than Port Royal on the GPU... Reason why less of an OC>

can you try out 4k superposition and see what kind of score and oc you get, since we both got ftw3 ultra

damn. i guess i lost the silicon lottery with my FTW3 because I can't even run Time Spy and Port Royal with just +100 core +1050 mem (Voltage and Power Limit is set at max too).

Start lower and work your way up, put the fans on 100%...

    Do the core only 1st....

Time Spy will be a lower OC....

Yea I've done that with Time Spy; Apparently, the highest I could go was +85 Core and +1050 Mem on my FTW3 Ultra. (max voltage, max power limit, max fan speed)

It's still able to go above 1050 on the memory, but beyond 1050, it only diminishes my score.

Moving on to Port Royal to see what's up.

my max for port royal was +100 Core +1050 Mem (diminishing scores if greater than 1050), max fan, max power, and max voltage.

i'll just stick to +85 core +1050 mem because it passed the time spy stress test.
also weirdly enough it passed the stress test with the fans just set to auto, so no og ps4 ptsd noise.

it crashed in time spy and project cars 3, superposition works just fine and i tried 10 or so games and all of those worked just fine

Yeah, Port Royal and Superposition take the same OC numbers.

i havent tried port royal yet since my internet is 1-4Mbps so its taking a while to download it but i will try it tomorrow when its done downloading

Time Spy and Fire Strike are a lot harder than Port Royal on the GPU... Reason why less of an OC>

can you try out 4k superposition and see what kind of score and oc you get, since we both got ftw3 ultra

I ran 1080P Extreme and got 11,700 with +1400 Mem and +110 Core.

compared your score to mine and it seems like core wise our oc is the same and my memory is 100 higher but thats the only difference, we both hit same boost clocks

finally downloaded port royal but i cant get it to really work at pretty much any kind of oc, what oc do you have that works with it? since our uniengine oc is pretty close im gonna try yours and if it dont work i will just do stock with power limit maxed out lol

    Link your timespy results.

My best so far I tried +700 mem and +150 gpu and crashed so now testing 130 gpu as 125 was my previous best. My voltage slider is all the way up also.

Have you been stable at those numbers? Or did you have to back off?

Look just because you're stable in one thing doesn't mean you're actually stable in all situations and actual real world games are very different than benchmarks.

You might not want to hear this, but gaming at high overclocks isn't really common. Overclocking and running benches is about testing gpu quality and a leaderboard contest. You aren't supposed to actually expect to play games at those high overclocks. Many games will crash on even tiny overclocks. Overclocking is never 100% stable and causes negatives like increased frame times in exchange for higher fps scores.
