Hi! I’ve got an EVGA 1000W GQ power supply. I’ve fitted it into an old Alienware Area 51 Case. I’m attempting to power the LED’s that come in it, but the cables I bought to do so shorted out my power supply.

I realize after that I’d messed it up by buying the wrong cables, and luckily suffered no long term damage from what I can tell. Does anyone know where I could buy certified EVGA cables that will work?

By extension, this cable will need to connect to a SATA female to molex female in order to connect with the Molex powered LED panel. Is this possible using the cable I already have (pictures attached below.)

If not, how should I go about connecting these properly? Would massively appreciate any help, and I give major props if you’ve read this far.

If you already have a cable but the pinout is wrong, you can easily remove the terminals using a pin/needle/paper clip to depress the terminal locking tab(s) and re-pin the connector correctly..The pinout on the component-end connector is industry-standard..The problem lies in the PSU connector-end because PSU pinouts are not industry-standard and many times using a cable that's not matched to the PSU will cause problems like you had.

The industry-standard pinout for SATA power and 4-pin Perif/Molex is shown below..Pinouts are shown as if you're looking into the end of the connector unless otherwise specified..Borrow, or you can buy a digital multimeter for about $10 that will do the job checking power and ground, etc.
