Hello everyone. I watched a video that said the thermal pad thickness on Hybrid is different than the air cool version. I plan to repaste the card and replace the thermal pad. Does anyone know the thickness of the thermal pad used in the FTW3 Hybrid version?

And this might be useful too,
thanks for the information. Seems there are a lot of arguments around thermal pads. It surprises me that Reddit user choose a 2mm thermal pad (gelid ultimate, 70 hardness, very hard to compress)when the minimum recommendation is 2.25mm and got the best result. Gelid Extreme is the softest thermal pad I can find on Amazon (35 hardness), but no idea why they don't produce 2.5mm thermal pad. They only have 3mm which I think is too thick. Will a 0.5mm and 2mm stack together perform the same as a natural 2.5mm pad?

That was where I was at also. I think you can stack them as long as you are careful to not have any air pockets. I only got a 6C improvement with the 2mm Ultimates so I might be tempted to stack the Extreme's if I remount in the future. But my mining temps are in the high 80s now like the reddit poster and my ambient is kinda high too (25-26C).

One thing I was thinking is to compress the 3mm extreme pad to 2.5mm before applying. I have some leftover 3mm Extreme pads, and I can compress them very easily to 2mm by using my finger. Do you think this will work?

You'll basically be turning them into a thinner harder pad. I'd just go with the 2mm Ultimate rather than that. Best solution is probably to stack Extremes if you want to use those. Are none of the other brands soft like the Extreme's? Thermaltake, Thermal Grizzly etc...?

I can't find thermaltake thermal pad, and thermalright's pad is also very hard. Thermal Grizzly, I like their thermal paste but am not a fan of their thermal pad, and their thermal pad is also hard (60 hardness). Back to Extreme. the 3mm can compress 40% base on the website to 1.8mm (and I tried, it really can by using my finger with very small force..)so compress to 2.5mm still left it with 0.7mm room for compression (about 30% room left). Seems to be a good solution? I did some research and stack without any air pocket is not easy...

Sorry, I get Thermaltake and Thermalright mixed up I think. Well 3mm can obviously work since that was what the reddit poster tried. I still don't see the value in pre-compressing them though as the force required to get to the final thickness will be the same. The full thickness pad will potentially conform around the chips more also.

While, one good thing I can think about pre-compressing is it gives you a larger surface area, so you only need to buy one pad (80*40mm) for the full coverage instead of buying 2 pads and having a lot of leftovers, lol. I calculated the total surface area needed for the pad, and one 80*40 pad is just about enough if you cut it very very precisely I read some reviews of the Ultimate version. It seems to help cool down the VRAM due to higher thermal conductivity, but because t's hard and not easy to compress, it can cause poor contact between cooler and GPU core, which ends up with lower VRAM temp but higher GPU temp.

Maybe just barely. I used 4 total on my 3090. Some of the leftovers are under my 3080ti backplate.
I saw a 1-2C improvement in core temp after the remount of my hybrid using the 2mm Ultimates. Definitely no increase in temp. Improvement probably came from the Kryonaut Extreme vs MX-4 I had used originally.

this info is very helpful as i care about core temp, pure gamer, never mined, lol. so the 2mm Ultimate fill the gap perfectly even EVGA saidb2.25mm minimum, right? and what pad do you use for the 0.75mm strip?

I actually just reused the 0.75mm pads on the chokes. They looked fine and cooling the chokes isn't nearly as important as the VRMs themselves. For the VRMs I used 2mm Ultimates. If you do the chokes with 1mm, then I'd use Extreme's to not risk taking contact away from the VRMs.

thank you! I was planning to use the original pad as well.

Since I just answered a similar question from a customer a short while ago, these are the dimensions of the thermal pads for the HYBRID Kit/HYBRID cards for 3080, 3080 Ti, and 3090: VRM Heatsink (near I/O) - - 1pcs - 80mm x 4.5mm x 2.25mm
- 1pcs - 75mm x 11mm x 0.75mm
VRM Heatsink (by fan) - - 1pcs - 106mm x 5mm x 2.25mm
- 1pcs - 105mm x 11mm x 0.75mm
VRAM Heatsink (below pump) - - 1pcs - 37.5mm x 12mm x 2.25mm
- 2pcs - 49mm x 13mm x 2.25mm
- 1pcs - 13mm x 13mm x 2.25mm

Thanks Lee. You should make this a sticky. I've probably linked to that old thread I posted above a dozen times by now. Comes up a lot.
