So I just bought a 2080 Ti FTW3 used, got it home, plugged it all up, power on the computer and the fans on the gpu spin for like a second then stop. Also none of the led's come on apart from the single, red led just above the power connectors. Ive tried 2 8 pin connectors and 2 6+1 connectors, same result. The guy I bought it from wont respond to any of my messages. Please, please tell me I didn't just buy a $1000 paper weight.

If you have any kind of proof that you purchased it, you can register it on this website, contact EVGA support, ask them for their opinion, and check to see if the card has a valid warranty in effect.

I'm not sure how I would show proof, I bought it used with cash.

$1000 cash with no email proof of purchase or written note or anything?  That's a crazy decision.  And since you chose cash, you have no buyer protection to fall back on.
    Eek.  Good luck.

I don't know about the red LED thing.

I mean I have txts of the conversation, but the app I used doesn't provide buyer protection for in-person/cash payments.

Maybe screenshots of the texts will be enough to make EVGA happy to believe that you bought it used from that person.

The app doesn't necessarily need to provide buyer protection.  Just don't use cash.  Use some other payment method to use that payment method's buyer protection.

Ye and I did everything I could think of to be sure the card worked before I bought it. I even asked the guy for a video of it working with a sticky of his name, my name and the date. I'm assuming he just showed an identical card that actually worked. /sigh
Ive heard nothing but good things about evga customer support, I hope they'll really pull through for me here.

Well, the point is if he sold you dead gpu on purpose that means he already tried to contact evga to replace it but failed for some reasons.

We had a story on forum when somebody bought gpu, it was dead, he sent it to evga for repair and they refused to do so. Because this plate was sent to evga multiple times and initially it was bend: somebody just broke this card and then sold it, second guy found ot that this card is dead and couldn't be fixed and sold it too.

If all else fails, you could disassemble it and bake only the PCB (aka the 'oven trick') to reflow any solder cracking that might exist, then hope for the best.

Preheat oven to 200C..Bake it with the GPU chip side up for 10-15 minutes.
