Is it possible to swap out HDD in EVGA SC17 to a SSD ? And if so, what kind of SSD I need to buy for that ? Also will it void warranty if I upgrade from HDD to SSD ?

no it will not void the warranty and you need any 9.5mm or less SSD for that .

bare in mind that the laptop already have m.2 NVME slot too

Thank you, so does it need to be SATA? I ow about PCIE SSD of 256gb, but I wanted to keep data also on faster SSD instead of spinning HDD, as that may help with my Light room and Photoshop editing work.

if its PCIe than its m.2 SSD you have than you gonna need m.2 to SATA adapter to do that since only there one m.2 slot with windows on it

Okay I think, I should have been more clear in my initial post. I'm not indenting on changing the existing 256GB SSD that comes with the SC17. I want to change the 1TB HDD with SSD - So I think all I need to know is do I need to buy SATA SSD or m2 SATA SSD ? And which one is best in market in terms of performance. I'm looking at replacing with same 1TB storage capacity.

You should be able to replace the 2.5" SATA hard drive with any 2.5" SATA that is 9.5mm thickness or less as stated above by @HaloTechnology

The thickness of the drive is important, but most 2.5" SSD's are 9.5mm or less so you can really pick whichever one you like. I personally prefer Samsung 850 EVO drives for there price/performance and high quality. There are a ton of options out there though.

Yeah the first gen SC17 had a samsung, so I was dissapointed as well when they ditched for a toshiba to save a few bucks.  I put a samsung in mine and have a heatsink coming to try to get the controller temps down.

That heatsink looks nice....I will check it out for another laptop, since the one I ordered won't fit in it for being too thick.

so the only way I can think of outside of downloading an ISO of the appropriate windows version is install the 2.5", use samsungs magician (? I think? It's a software from Samsung that will mirror the boot drive), mirror the boot drive to the 2.5, then install the new NVMe and mirror it back ..

That is, of course, after making sure the machine boots off the 2.5"...And if that doesn't work, does that Laptop have a windows license on it? Download an ISO from microsoft ...and burn it to a DVD.

    or a bootable USB stick..

You can get the image from here

I ordered the EKWB EK-M.2 NVMe Heatsink, but it is thicker than the one Halo Tech got.  It should fit not problem on the SC17, but on thinner laptops his seems more appropriate.....couldn't find it online though, if you could post a link it would be great.

I really wanted to buy the EKWB one but it was too expensive plus I knew it wont fit ! this one i bought from Aliexpress ! https://www.aliexpress.com/item/ONE-GAAHOO-GA2280C-General-Laptop-NVMe-NGFF-M-2-2280-cooling-Oxygen-free-Copper-heat-conduction/32817886793.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.OsMg1B

Bare in mind that temp didnt go down as much at first ! turns out the thermal pad was NOT touching the controller so I had to make a double one from it to make sure it does press on it :)

Look at the link above :)
the heatsink have like a small hook on the bottom to make it make sure it does compress on the chips

okay I finally got around ordering 2 1TB SSD - 1TB 860EVO to replace 7200RPM HDD and 1TB Samsung 918 SSD from ebay to replace main 250GB SSD.
I've changed 2TB HDD to 1TB SSD, but I dont see it under Windows Explorer when I start PC. Do I need to do anything after installing SSD, for it to show up in my Windows Explorer ? I assumed it is coming pre-formated.

Okay scratch that - found answer to it, needed to run thru Computer Management on Windows to format and initialize disc.
Now how do I replace the main ssd ? I'm not asking for hardware replacement, I'm asking about after I put in new SSD, what is next step to get Windows and everything else on it ?

The best way to get a copy of Windows 10 is to download the Windows Media Creation Tool, and create a boot drive using an 8GB+ USB drive. You can then replace the stock M.2 with the new one, and use the boot drive to install Windows. Please be aware that if you experience any issues with the laptop and need to send it to us, you will need to re-install the original drives, or there will likely be a replacement fee or rejection of the RMA.

You should be able to make a bootable copy of your Windows drive to the new SSD with a tool like Macrium Reflect. I've been using it for boot drive backups and for free software it is pretty great.
