Hmm that's weird, unless they don't scan it until they get to California. Sometimes the delivery CS reps only know so much. Had trouble sleeping and checked tracking and it arrived in Cali early this morning. I did ship mine out on Wednesday not sure when you shipped you'res out though, could've been later which makes sense maybe.? I had a bad feeling about my package but could just be psych ward paranoia lmfao

I was doing a bunch of shipping research and found a lot of people said it seemed they didn't scan the package but it arrived on time or maybe a day late. Did you use UPS?

Glad yours updated! I dropped mine off at UPS Friday morning. It left For ATL on Saturday. Maybe it just won't update until it arrives.

Only a few more posts before I can pm people

Okay yeah that definitely makes sense since you dropped it off 2+ days later. It will get there for sure. Mine arrived and left Hodgkings really early on Saturday and was on a train I'm pretty sure. You will probably for sure get an update today or tomorrow morning. Mine is pretty much right beside Brea California so yours will likely be right there as well and out for delivery same day. Sorry to worry you it just sucks not being able to see where it is always and worry about it being lost.

I live in Canada and applied for the 3080 on November 21st 2020. Anyone knows if EVGA accepts Canadian consumers? Will they ship in Canada?

My 3080 has arrived in Vancouver, Canada VERY quickly from California, basically overnight, in spite of apparently taking a ride through Kentucky (!). It has not been delivered at home yet but I have received a customs bill from UPS. Basically CAD$10 to UPS for brokerage and CAD$94 for GST/PST. The taxes were calculated on the difference between my returned card and the cost of the new card so I cannot really complain I guess. Expecting the 3080 to be delivered later today

Did you use worldwide expedited? I heard there shouldn't be any customs charges for that delivery option and being an rma. Maybe it depends where in Canada?

Re: Unofficial 3080 Step Up Queue Thread. 2021/10/26 09:17:35 (permalink)
No, I used the standard UPS Worldwide Saver Express. I have not yet received my parcel so I do not have the detail of the declaration that EVGA put on the export documentation. In spite of it being an RMA, what I would expect EVGA to have done is to declare the INCREASE IN VALUE between the two cards, i.e. what I had to pay excluding shipping, as the declared value of the shipment on the customs declaration. If that is the case and while nothing in life is certain, I would be very surprised if Canada Customs would NOT charge GST/PST on this balance. In my case, looking at the numbers, that certainly seems to be what has happened. Because of this "standard mechanism", I must admit I cannot see how using Worldwide Expedited could avoid this process generally and result in zero customs charges. If anybody has documented proof of this happening I would appreciate seeing the documentation involved.

FWIW I will look at the EVGA customs declaration on the box when I get the card and comment back.

EDIT: FWIW, on a "pure" repair RMA where you send a card across the border for a repair by the vendor and get the repaired card back I can certainly understand no GST/PST being charged because there was no intrinsic change in value of the item shipped. But in this case where the product you receive back is different from the one you initially shipped I really expect charges to apply.

Yeah I am not sure a mixed bag when searching for information regarding taxes and tariffs. I will write here as well, maybe it depends on area, driver etc.

Re: Unofficial 3080 Step Up Queue Thread. 2021/10/26 10:40:34 (permalink)
OK, all of the above and following is based on my (quite possibly fallible...) understanding of cross-border shipping and taxing. But in my defense I must say I have bought a lot of hobby stuff from the US over the years.

While there seems to be discretion from the Canada customs agent's side whether or not to charge taxes, in my experience this typically only gets waived/ignored in pretty low value shipments. For instance: from what I have seen, the customs agents seem to consider all the hassles of the paperwork to receive the GST/PST on a trivial (say less than $50) commercial invoice/declared value to not be worth the time and effort. I suspect it costs more than they gain. But when it comes to a couple hundred dollars or more (as in this case), then it certainly does not generally get waived.

I do not believe EVGA or UPS really has any legal "wiggle room" on what they are supposed to do. "Legal" of course being an important qualifier. EVGA HAS to accurately fill out the customs declaration and commercial invoice and UPS HAS to submit the shipper's customs documentation at the port of entry. In this case, I believe EVGA has to appropriately document the increase in value (basically your step-up cost invoice from EVGA, which in my case was like US$600 plus shipping which I had to pay), and UPS then has to submit that. If this is indeed the case, I really struggle to see how taxes would not be attracted.

A few thoughts apply:

* I might be totally misreading the principles involved. Not the first time that would have happened...
* I am not sure that things would differ by region. Customs is a Canada federal "thing" and SHOULD therefore be consistent across the country.
*  The UPS driver absolutely has no role to play in this: he just collects or does not collect whatever he is instructed to collect or not collect. By the time the parcel gets into his hands whatever brokerage/taxes/duties that apply have long since been determined by the appropriate people and the paperwork prepared accordingly.
*  It is possible that the importation costs can be pre-paid. This is a big eBay thing at the moment where they have their Global Shipping Program. They calculate shipping, brokerage and all taxes and duties at the time of the sale and that gets paid up front by the buyer. But either way, this means that you have to pay the brokerage fee, the taxes and possible duties ahead of time.
*  Somebody is naughty and deviates from the requirements.

Received my brand spanking new RTX 3080 this afternoon! Unfortunately the box did NOT contain the original EVGA paperwork, only the UPS paperwork that says it is "a computer reproduction of the information document presented to Canada Border Services", so no further clarification.

And computer work invariably ends up more involved than one would hope: I had to get an upgraded PSU (to the recommended 750W and with enough connectors for everything) so this evening was spent removing the temporary video card & drivers plus the old PSU and all associated cabling. Then to reinstall a new PSU with all new cables: felt like building a whole new computer again! Only then could I start installing the RTX 3080: this went very, very quickly and painlessly. Sort of 2 hours to do the prep work and then 20 minutes to install the new card! Checked connections, turned on the power and everything booted up beautifully: got to love it (and be grateful!!!). Installed latest released drivers while I was at it. Now to start and update MS Flight Simulator and see how it runs!

Wow, glad to see some big movements going on, congratulations to those who finally have their cards or are about to get them. Out of curiosity, what cards are those of you who are just receiving your step ups coming from. I still need to wait for everybody who entered the queue with their new 3060ti and I probably got one of the last normal 3060 they had when they sent me an email on 3/9/21 saying I could buy one.

I entered the queue the moment I got the 3060 in my hands on 3/10/21 and have been looking forward to the 3080. I was expecting to wait a long time before getting my turn for the 3080 step up, and this is still "long" but I was expecting over a year. I even went out to Best Buy one day during their announced restocks saw the line and said "eff this I'll just wait my turn."

I'm happy I got the 3060 for now, my 980ti was dying and restarting my computer at random, if I was lucky I could be on the computer gaming for 2 hours, but most of the time it was within 30 minutes.

My computer has gotten a few upgrades since the death of my 980ti, upgrade to 5800x from a 6700k and a nice new 2160p ultrawide. I am salivating at the thought of what the 3080 is going to bring in terms of performance to my ultrawide, the poor 3060 is barely a bump better than my 980ti was and I have been wanting the 3080 since launch.

I am hopeful but I also have to remind myself that I have no idea how many more people there are ahead of me and it might still be a long road.

Unfortunately I do not have 10 posts yet so I cannot send PM's.

Result has been good with MSFS. I have a 4K monitor and used to run mostly High settings with my RTX 2060. I did bump up the terrain and object LOD to 200 and trees set to Ultra. With these settings I used to get 23 -25FPS while flying low (1,500ft in a Beech Bonanza) over my home town Vancouver BC. With the same settings, after I installed the 3080, I got 45 - 50fps in the same area, which I felt was a lovely improvement. Also very smooth with no stutters. I then bumped up settings to all ultra but without bloom, depth of field and motion effects (I do not like those as they are not real to me) and glass cockpit refresh at medium. Frame rate dropped down to just over 40 in the same area. Slightly away from the city and at 4,000ft I could get up to 50fps, again very happy. With ultra clouds I did find the frame rate dropping to around 30fps when I got into the cloud, again not unexpected.

My setup obviously always used to be limited by the GPU (always @ 100%) with the CPU at around 10-15%. With the 3060 I am still GPU limited (which is as it should be) with the GPU on or at 100% and the CPU at up to 20%. GPU temps are very good: only 74°C with the fans far less noisy than I was used to with the 2060.

All in all VERY happy!

That's great to hear. What CPU are you using? I mainly play in VR so I'm both cpu and GPU limited.

Pairing a i5 9600k @ 5ghz with my 2070super which was delivered to EVGA today! The 3080 should let me up the render scaling some.

Fingers crossed they process the new one asap. I'll have to check out Vancouver. I have family in Nanaimo. Love it up there.

Oops, that was a bit dumb of me! AMD Ryzen 7 3700X with 32GB of 3200 memory on an Asus X570 board. OS is on a 250GB m.2 NVMe, game is on 500GB m.2 NVMe

Good luck for a speedy delivery! And yes, Nanaimo is just across the water from us. Except a couple days ago when we had so much wind the ferries were halted!

I just got an email 10 mins ago from EVGA saying it was received. My step up now also reflects today's date. The email said 1-2 days to process and ship the new one. Prior to that I read 1-3 days for turnaround time.

Must be pretty bad to stop the ferries. The crossing was pretty rough when I went on a normal calm day.
