Hey All, So last night after trying to figure out how to get Darksiders 2 to stop stuttering with vsync enabled, I came upon a couple of forums suggesting the use of D3Doverrider to fix the issue. So I proceeded to download and install Rivatuner (D3DOverrider is part of the Rivatuner package) and give it s try. That didn't work at all, so I wanted to remove Rivatuner completely from my system. I used the Rivatuner uninstall and deleted all folders related to the program. All has been removed from the C drive and nothing shows up in the Programs list for Rivatuner I am now concerned that something may be left behind in the Registry and do not want anything on my PC that would hinder performance at all. I am not too keen on deleting items from the Registry, however I would give it a shot. Can I simply use CTRL-F to search the registry for "Rivatuner" and delete all folders related to that program? Are there only certain Rivatuner folders I should be deleting? Thanks a lot :)

I just searched my Registry and found several entries for RivaTuner as a video codec so I wouldn't recommend randomly deleting Registry keys. You might try CCleaner free edition and search for obsolete Registry items. I use it whenever I delete a program permanently. Just make sure you know what you're deleting before you do. As an option, CCleaner can back up the items you're deleting as a safety measure.

My other option would be to do a system restore back to Sunday 8/12/2012 as I installed Rivatuner last night 8/14. The only issue with that is, the restore point on 8/12 says Critical Update beside it. If I restore back to 8/12 will the remove the "Critical Update"? Will the update auto install again??

Windows Updates were made available yesterday and would be re-installed if you restored to an image made before they were installed. After you restore you'll need to check for, download and install Windows updates, create a new System Image and a new backup for your system.

Will the updates install automatically as I have auto updates on for Win7 or will I have to search and remember which ones I have to reinstall. My only concern would be that I install the either the wrong updates or double install the same ones and bog my system down.

If your system was up to date at the time of the System Image, only the Windows updates made available yesterday will download and install. You should have no problems restoring the System Image.

Ok so did a restore to 8/12/2012 and now auto update is telling me to install the files again, which is fine, however when I look at the install history the ones that installed ont the 12th and today are saying installed successfully. Will I be installing over them? Or does the update history not get rolled back to the restore date ?

If you open Windows Update and select "View update history", it will only show the updates installed after the System Restore. If you then select "see Installed Updates", it will show the complete history of every Windows Update you have installed since the first run of your system.

checked for updates and it pulled in the 10 updates published yesterday. Issue is now I see double the updates in my view update list. The same ones that were published yesterday are there twice and I can't find any updates later then 7/11/2012 in the installed list :(

Very odd. My system shows every time that I updated in the "view updates" all the way back to 9/11/2011. However our "installed" screens are identical

All of my installed updates go back to before January but I couldn't fit them all in the panel. The only updates I actually installed were on the 14th after the Restore and is why there are only those showing in the Update History. Everything should be good. Did you remember to create a new System Image? The old Image is no longer there because it was restored.

I have not created a new image yet however I will. I just find it very weird that my Update History shows every single update that Win7 has downloaded. The ones published yesterday show up twice (each) in that list of updates. The only restore point I had was for 8/12. I had already downloaded and installed the 9 or 10 updates that were published on 8/14 before I did the restore. When I got home after work I decided to run the restore. So I assume that would mean that I would lose those 9 or 10 updates and would have to re-install them again. After the restore I went into the view updates history and they were already in the list as being "successful" however when I ran the "check for updates" option the 9 updates where there and required me to do the whole restart install deal. Now when I look in the view updates field I see double of the updates that were published yesterday. Does the view history tab keep track of ALL updates regardless of restore points?? Sorry for the long winded novel.....I appreciate your help :)

I've had to use System restore several times since January when one of my SSDs failed. The updates installed before the System Image was created should have been part of that image and not need to be re-installed. When Windows tries to install an update that has already been installed, it normally say "Update failed - error ????" . I have a SSD array and I use the Windows Disk Clean-up utility every day because I have limited space and delete unecessary restore points. Using the clean-up utility to remove previous Restore Points is one reason that only my latest updates are showing but there could be other reasons that I'm not aware of right now. Somebody deleted and re-installed BF3 and when they went to play, the Cloud data didn't give him any of his previous progress. They had to start over from scratch. It's for this reason that whenever I make significant progress in BF3, I stop and create a System Image. I have made up to ten System Images in a single day and these resore points take up space on my drives.

Sound rights. The system image was for 8/12 and those updates did not require installation again. I just find it strange that Windows informed me that I needed to re install the 9 updates that came out yesterday again. I assume that is because I restored back to 8/12 and the new updates didn't even exist at that time. It's strange that the View Updates tab shows that I have downloaded the same updates twice, even though the install screen shows that I have only installed them once. Maybe View Update History shows all update history regardless of restore points

Maybe. I split my 1 TB array into two 500 GB partitions and occasionally have to use the Manage Space utility to "Delete all but the last restore point" to give me more room and that might have something to do with it too. It's good that you're up and running again. EDIT: One reason to not delete RivaTuner Registry entries is that both PrecisionX and AfterBurner are based on it. (it took me long enough to remember that, didn't it) lol

Yeah thats why I don't like to screw around in the registry and went the System Restore method. Its just really bothering me that I see double the 8/14 updates in my history :( I have run multiple benchmarks and my performance is still the same. I can only assume the double entries are not affecting performance.
