lets's say it was a gpu chip thermal issue, would you be comfortable running it at 85c for years? (mind you 85c is still within specs) or would you try to reseat the cooling? it'll be a problem especially when games start pushing the card
same goes for vrms and vram, but you cant monitor them

Nope, most likely will not even update BIOS. I have 3 years to run the wheels off of my cards. If they take a dive in that time frame I RMA go do it again. And yes If I had any other 10xx series I'd do the same. 2x 1060 FTW's Folding at home 24/7 85-100% GPU usage @ all times. MSI AB controlled fans @ 55-60% fan speed. Open case and plenty of case fans for other items needing some sort of air flow for cooling. Matter of fact for comparison 3x 980 Classified running the same program in a open case too (closed to get picture though) My bad they are running in a closed case, I do not open the side on this one since this case has very good air flow. Opening the case sides actually makes the temperatures rise a couple degrees. MSI AB controlling fans Running the wheels off of them too.............but there is a warranty still in place. I will run these until they die. Temps: Quick Poor picture 980 Classies:

So you will not change anything too ? Because we are all here on this forum but we are a very limited number of 106/7/80 owners ! So we can say that we are gonna have a lot more owners who will never know about this issue at all...

1070 sc here, I only updated bios, not using thermalpads. So far had no issues, I did do update of bios because It's a piece of cake and it doesn't even run that loud after applying new bios. It's not like you absolutely 100% will encounter a problem especially If you don't overclock and bring card to its limit with benchmarking tools such as fumark. If your card overheats anyway there's 3year warranty so I wouldn't worry too much.

I won't update the bios as I run a custom fan profile anyway, but will use the thermal pads. Why someone wouldn't use them is beyond me. All you stand to gain is lower temps. No harm done in anyway as you are covered by EVGA. People are blowing this out of proportion lol. To each their own though. By the time your warranty is up you'll buy a new card anyway

The problem is that GPU temperature is not VRM or other sensitive component temperature. My temperatures were also fine and I updated the bios yesterday. I ordered thermal pads but EVGA saying that it is not essential upgrade so for now I don't know if i should install them.

I run an aggressive fan curve, so I cant be bothered installing the new vBIOS. I also wont apply thermals pads, if this card dies within 3 years, I will just talk to my retailer and/or EVGA and will get a working one. I just highly doubt every EVGA card is going out in flames.

Glad to see I'm not the only one... Because everything works so fine at the moment, dont want to change or touch anything ! And yes I doubt too that every card will going out in flames, we are aware about those who have issues, they are less than 10 but there are several thousand of users who will never know whats happen right now and just enjoy the product... And also the 95 degres it's a furmark temperature and I have a more agressive fan ! So, I can suppose I'm under 90 degres for my VRM and the limit is 125 degres I'm right ?

I ordered pads for my SC black, but after checking my Vram pads from the side and seeing FLIR imaging showing good temps on vrms where the card had no backplate, I think I may not instal the single pad either. (No pads on back for me because no back plate.)
I really think the backplate minus pads = oven.

Well, the tests show the card won't even get near that in gaming so yeah... I'd say you're safe.

Correct I am not changing anything, not installing pads or bios. I did order the pads since they were offered, they will be saved for install if I sell these (not likely to sell them BUT) and a future owner has concerns. My own fan profile is MORE aggressive than the new BIOS version probably is. I never have and never will allow the settings in the BIOS control my fans. I use MSI Afterburner to control my fans like I stated before. I do not believe in 0db fan profiles, I did not and do not build P/Cs to run games and fold at max and ultra settings and expect them to be so quiet you can hear a mouse fart. I am pretty sure with the blow up and over reaction to the temperature issues that unless you live in a cave most will have heard about this. If your a true enthusiast (as apparently you are) you know about it since it's smeared all over the net. If your an average user and do not overclock and have good case flow I am willing to bet you would never know. It wasn't until someone decided to run a bench test in a loop for an insane amount of time WITH access to a thermal imaging camera that anyone had a clue about VRM temperatures. If you can put those same demands on the card/ GPU VRM ETC ETC while running a game then I commend you!! Where are all the tests for prior series of GPUs with the same testing done? (actually I don't care) Probably/ Maybe? could be some out there, again I don't know and I don't care. I am not going to search for them and waste my time. My 1060's run, and have ran since installation at max. Am I worried? Not in the least.

Ilyama I updated the BIOS I don't care about noise, my case us super quiet. As for the pads, I have never opened a video card before. My 1070 SC cost almost $700 here in Canada. It is the last thing I want to be screwing with. I have no problem installing the pad under the back plate, but I am very hesitant and nervous in removing the heat spreader to install the other pad. The reason is I am never satisfied with how I apply the thermal grease. Every time I do it for the cpu, it drives me crazy. DO I do the line, the pea, star, spread method, am I using too much, too little, ect ect. It drives me nutts! having said that I have built many computers and I have never had a problem so...I think it is more over thinking in my case. Anyways... My advice is to order the pads, when people start receiving them, I am sure there will be hundreds of YouTube videos of people showing how to apply them. After you watch 5 or 10 videos of the process, I guarantee you will have more confidence in your ability to do it yourself. When I install the pads, I plan on doing it in front of my 55inch TV with a youtube video of someone else demonstrating it, doing it step by step with the video. (And the instructions from EVGA) That is my plan anyway.

If you can successfully mount the CPU and not have issues you will be OK. If you have installed a motherboard, you will be OK. If you use the CORRECT sized Phillips head screw driver (Craftsman P1 Phillips Screwdriver # 41294 Q PR)< not the best in the world but works nicely (not a dollar store cheapo) you will be OK. If you know righty tighty and lefty loosey you will be OK. If you are able to tighten the screws snugly NOT CRANK the poop out of them (since they are small) you will be OK. I am not making fun of anyone, just pointing out if you can do these things you will be ok. Was I a little skittish when I mounted my first water block? Yup. Did I succeed? Yup, any breakage or damage Nope. Were some of the screws a little difficult to remove? Yup. But with firm pressure on the screw driver and holding the card in your other hand you will be OK. If the tip of the screw driver slips in any form or fashion you either have the wrong tipped screw driver or are not applying enough pressure to the screw driver itself to keep it engaged in the screw. Hold card in one hand and remove screws..........simple as popping a pimple!!!!

No pads here, just a custom agressive fan curve. Everything works so fine with this config, and GPU at 99% load (Assassin's Creed Syndicate, for example) keeps 60~65º.

I will not change anything... But I used Aggressive curve since day 1 ( I always like coolness :P ) I use my cards for already 2 months and I had no problem. On Idle I have 37C and 31C which are much lower temps than my previrous ASUS 780s. I think that I am also helped by my Case which has a big 20cm fan on the panel and blows air on the video cards.

Hi, Please see the below page for more information. http://www.evga.com/thermalmod/ Please keep in mind that the thermal mod is 100% optional. We do however recommend the VBIOS updates which are coming out as quickly as we can make them available, but in general the cards are running within spec without either update. If anyone does want the optional thermal mod and recommended VBIOS loaded from the factory then we can help with warranty to assist.

I predict there will be a huge price drop on all these problematic cards in the next few weeks. More so than just the normal price drops. these cards are going to have to go if people start holding off or backing out. adamchamney@yahoo.com

Aristoc69 I predict there will be a huge price drop on all these problematic cards in the next few weeks. More so than just the normal price drops. these cards are going to have to go if people start holding off or backing out.
Huh? so your saying if I choose not to update the BIOS and not put the thermal pads on since I run an aggressive fan profile and have no temperature issues. (that I can monitor with software or high tech tools/ Best I have is a IR temp gun back of PCB highest temp 47*C) This will have a influence on the EVGA 10xx resale market? Seems that the ticked off people outweigh the folks who are fine (seem to be anyway) with the fixes that EVGA has come up with. I have to say: man I am pretty powerful!!!!
