Any word from EVGA on TITAN X backplates? or is NVIDIA not letting AIBs do stuff like that yet? And if there was one in the works, would it have thermal pads for the GDDR5 or just rectangles/squares cut out? Alternatively, anyone know of any black ram sink packs that would go well with them? I can only find them in 8 packs.

TITAN BLACK Backplate That's very hard to explain how much TITAN X need protection over PCB. Look so vulnerable and sensitive and naked without that.

I hope they are made of aluminum, or some sort of allow that helps with heat dissipation. I'm curious if this backplate will add any significant cooling to single card setups?

What I meant to ask is if the backplate is merely cosmetic, or would we see any thermal pads on it that help drop the temperature of the card by a couple of degrees. If I'm getting a backplate, I would like it to have a little practicality and not just aesthetics. :3

ordered 20 small black ram sinks in the meantime - 2x of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/141343841813should do until backplates are for sale. small and cheap but with some arctic silver alumina thermal adhesive paste, it should conduct heat pretty well. my case airflow is kinda bad, and I heard on one review the GDDR5 was getting up to 102c Edit: I assume the GDDR5 is around 12mmx14mm so these should fit (14mmx14mm)

I've owned backplates for 580 and 690, they're generally more for aesthetics and protection but they can give you 1c-3c degree difference. in the case of the 580, backplate + high flow bracket improved temps by a decent amount to justify cost. @ EVGA_JacobF please for the love of god, don't use those sweaty thermal pads the 690 backplate had. I had to clean that thing constantly (looks like newer backplates just cut out a square behind GPU, so this won't be an issue though. 690 had pads behind both GPUs). Would definitely love pads to cool the RAM though, as long as they're not the sweaty/greasy kind. Also, a curved lip around the front side would be really nice for aesthetics like some waterblock companies do with their backplates.

I'm contemplating making my own backplate / memory heatsink for this card just for the fun of it. Crosshatched/finned 1/4" thick slab of one piece CNCed aluminum: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLnFdYt4yZw The definition of cost ineffective (ballpark at least 5x more expensive than a massproduced backplate), but damn there's something satisfying about doing something from scratch. Think if I email Nvidia they'll give me the 3D cad models for the reference board to save a bunch of caliper time? :)

Did you add dimples across the top for added surface area or did you just make it look purdy?

Surface area. 1.25mm wide x 1mm deep channels spaced 3mm apart. I have no idea if they can even be machined that way or if the cost goes up astronomically to do that (because I imagine it will take a crap load of CNC machine time)...in which case I'll probably try submitting the design with dimples instead. Even plain smooth surface would probably do pretty well...the whole thing is just there to pull heat off the relatively small surface area of memory chips. Fun fact, I had to calm down on the fin density because Solidworks seriously hated trying to render 10k fins :)

EVGA Jacob can you confirm a backplate will be available for the Titan X Reference Cooler (air cooler not the waterblock version)? I thought this couldn't be done since the memory gets too hot. This is literally the difference between me picking one up or not.

He say backplates will be available for TITAN X, he thought on reference model. Same as for TITAN and TITAN Black, both of them had own backplates with card name and name of manufacturer. Only crazy person or someone who don't care for money could leave naked 12GB of memory in PC and even to OC them.

Yeh, I get that but just wondered if they'd have different back plates (so named SC on it) for the different models. Like the 780Ti Classified back plate I currently have.

Clickalot It seems like every time something new comes out the first question is "Backplates?" I think its funny how much people care for them.
Put your finger on one of the memory chips on the backside and you'll see why I'm going through the trouble of having a backplate made from scratch. Thing gets freaking hot! Speaking of, custom backplate update for anyone who cares (which may be no one)...the cost of the part exploded to $1200 a pop. I'm working on getting that number back down to reality with some design tweaks. I did a final fitment check with a 1:1 printout against the actual card and hole spacing looks on the money...so it's pretty much ready for manufacture once I get the cost down. I'm aiming for $250 apiece which can't really go any lower since they're machining a 1" thick block down to .19" so the material cost alone sets a price floor.

Be interested to see what the final figure is as that is nuts at the moment. Looks great mind.

$250 for a backplate? Is it going to be water-cooled with tears of mermaids? Also, you design could use circular dimples like a golf ball, since those dimples make the ball go faster, farther and straighter, maybe if you out dimples, you card can go to 2ghz. O.o
