Hey guys need your help. Really disappointed in myself. I was trying to watercool my EVGA XC3 Ultra 3080, but one of the screws on the stock cooler backplate was stripped. So I tried my best at removing the screw, but it only resulted in my hand slipping and knocking something off the PCB. What should I do? I have soldering tools at home but I have no experience in soldering but I’m willing to learn if the thing I broke off is an important part of the GPU. Or should I RMA it? If so, is it covered under EVGA’s RMA policy? I’m really bummed, was looking forward to watercooling my rig and this happened.

Attached are images of the broken component

You don't have enough posts yet to display pictures and images. If you broke something off I hope a professional with soldering skills can assist you. You can probably post the link to your picture but spread out the URL with empty spaces so the forum filter doesn't block it.

I would aim for an rma. They can sometimes fix things in house. I would contact them before risking making it worse. The worst they can say to.you is no.

Unfortunately, that usually means that the warranty is now void. It is possible that EVGA may not void the warranty out of the kindness of their heart, but don't count on it.

EVGA doesn't have a repair service any more. Don't even waste your time asking EVGA if they will repair it for you. All EVGA can do is say that they will replace the GPU via warranty, or turn you down and leave you on your own because the warranty is void by the damage you caused.

Anyone with soldering skills can solder that back on. It shouldn't be a big deal. The warranty may be void, but at least the GPU shouldn't be ruined. If EVGA says that the warranty is void, ask a friend or coworker if they know someone who is good at soldering who can fix it for you.

Oof, that sucks. Really did a number on that backplate too!

It's a basic MLCC, a capacitor. Should be a simple issue of finding a shop to solder it back into place for you as long as the MLCC isn't cracked, but even if the MLCC is damaged they're easy to find off dead hardware. Any shop with the expertise to solder that for you will have box of broken PCBs they can pull one off of.

    Have water, will cool.
