Yes, beta flag works also but you get these test units only worth a 1000 points...
I don't mind doing beta work as long as it includes normal units as well :)

Well, official release of core 17 for Maxwell:

Woot woot !!!

http://folding.stanford.edu/home/

(see news...I don't know why it doesn't show up when you copy the link...)

Getting fairly steady 9202 WU now.

Full post:

With the newer NVIDIA drivers, it looks like Core17 works well on Maxwell.  We’ve released Core17 to Maxwell on adv (“Advanced Methods” setting).  If you’re having problems, you can set from adv back to the regular fah setting, allowing donors to opt out if they’re having problems.  The latest drivers are recommended.

...so, yeah, "client-type" = "advanced" and should be good to go.

Wonder why they recommend latest drivers?  I've heard of nothing but slowdowns on the newer drivers vs 337.

Unfortunately, no difference here - just got another core 15, even after updating the flag and re-starting the client after the last GPU project finished.

haven't tried, But I would think the latest drivers would give the best results with 980 and 970 Maxwell... slowdowns reported for 780 and 780 TI.

Anyone try the older drives with these new cards?

I'm actually rockin' a Core18 Project 10475 on my GTX980.

Ppd varies from 290,000 - 325,000 with an offset of 160 Mhz @ 60 degrees but at only approx 78% utilization.

I had to update the drivers with the 980, I figured everyone else with 900 series was in the same boat.

I'm wondering if you need to manually delete the old Core 17 folder in your AppData so it re-downloads the latest.  I suspect that's what they updated given the history with doing this on Kepler.

Switched from Advanced to Beta today in an effort to get Bonus WU's and it worked on my 780.  Too afraid to revert back to advanced until I've at least got my EVGA Bucks finished.

Yeah, it should do it automatically. (check WU when downloaded with core and install the latest version of FAHCORE)

Is there any special flags or setup involved in folding on the 970 or 980? Or is it just DL the latest client and auto-setup the GPU?

I read for the 970 and 980 you want client-type advanced.

I did try that, and it just re-downloaded another Core 15.

What ultimately did seem to end up working was that I let the Core 15 "finish", and once done I deleted the GPU slot entirely.  Then, shut down the client, updated my drivers (340 -> 344), fired up the client again and re-added the slot back.  *Bam*, nothing but Core 18s since then.

Trying to get my rig back up for some mild folding and settled on a 970 as it seemed to be the best bang for the bucks ... system is drawing 210 watts folding full on just the GPU according to Kill A Watt.  Producing about 230,000 PPD using stock clocks, no flags, 347.25 drivers on a 9201 WU.  If anyone has any suggestions on tweeks to boost PPD, let's hear them, or, tell me where I might locate them.

Because my 980 Cards seem to only get Core 15 my 290X are doing two to three times the PPD.
When I do get a Core 17 is dose really well and better then my 290X but because of Core 15 they are Poorly Folding.
I have not gotten any Core 18 to date but I will start the cycle all over again tonight once my GPUGRID tasks complete.
I will repost what I see.
Tasks that I see on my 290X are p13000, p13001, P10467, and P9201.
Tasks that I see on my 980 are P9201 and the Core 15 ones.

It is nice that the 970/980 run half the wattage than the 6xx or 7xx series cards did and even less than that on AMD GPUs

This is correct for core 0x17 but core 0x15 my GTX 980 needs some extra 80W @1480MHz.

gtx 980 sc was getting mostly core 15's. shut it down and put a flag now getting a steady flow of 9411's at 260,000 PPD. Major improvement!

cokeman54,
When I first got my 980 SC I put no flags on it and it was putting out 350,000 ppd - no core 15s. But as of late it is picking them up in waves. I tried advanced and beta, but still got the 1 or 2 core 15s a day. When I got home today the 980 was 20 minutes from finishing another core 15. I do not have answer to this one - maybe run it on linux?? I dunno.

After waiting for a month my new laptop arrived .  I realize mobile cards aren't in the same category, but it's little 980m is outputting 190K ppd (compared to the 132k on my 770) with no flags running core 15s and 17s.  I just threw on the advanced flag to see if maybe I can pick up some core 18s.  Though it still stuns me how a laptop with a Maxwell GPU running off a 180-watt power supply can outperform my 1-year old desktop that is pulling about 500-600 from the wall.  This new Maxwell architecture is amazing.

I'm running a Sager NP8258 (Clevo P157SM-A) with a 4810 MQ processor and a 1 TB SSD.  I've got it sitting on a typical targus cooling mat with the house temp at 65 F and the GPU is only showing 77 C and the highest core temp is 78 C with the fans running about 40%.  I did also have Xotic throw on some extra copper to the heat sinks (which makes the laptop really heavy).  I don't think I'll fold while I'm over in the desert, considering it'll be breaking 120 F outside and I don't think they have that great of A/C in the rooms, but I should still be able to game away no problem.  I did also go with a high-end laptop this time instead of the mid-level laptop I've been using for the past 4 years, but everything is just so responsive on it, I find it amazing.

Currently on Core 15 project 142432 PPD

Not to sure if that's combined sense both of my 970 FTW's are busy bee's or what.

1392 Boost Clock (Current clock)
73'C GPU temps. 50% Fan speed.

Now just got issues a x17 project... 342931 PPD with the highest i've seen it spike into the 400,000's.

GTX 980 folds like crazy BUT in all games the video driver has stopped responding and recovered. My 660 ti runs games fine but is no where near the 980 in folding. Anyone else seen this?

990s.......6 of them on a BTC pro mobo would be roughly 2.7m ppd from 1 rig if you got nothing but x17 WU.

I still think the "what to do?" is up in the air at the moment. Need to see what happens after Nvidia gets around to fixing the drivers for maxwell and how well they do once core 18 is working on them. Once that all shakes out then we have to see what card makes it to the top of the bang for your buck list. IMO to much is in limbo to run out and make any purchases strictly for folding right now.

Good question. I will probably have to sell my car and take the bus, or revolve some credit. Depends on the price.
My 980 is looking for a friend, any idea on the release date for either of these cards?
