I have a second monitor, a small 17" Dell. I use it mainly when I'm working on game projects or mods, the rest of the time I have it disabled in the Nvidia control panel. Since I upgraded from two EVGA 780's to a single 1080 Ti FTW3 however, even though I have the Dell monitor disabled in the Nvidia control panel it re-enables itself when I boot up every time.

My primary monitor (a 2560x1440 Samsung) is connected to the one and only DVI socket on the FTW3. The secondary monitor is connected to the Displayport on the graphics card and then to a Displayport-DVI converter (because the Dell monitor only has one DVI socket on it (and a VGA).

How do I stop Windows 7 from re-enabling the secondary monitor every time I boot up? I can only assume it's the graphics card that's doing this as before when I had two 780's it wouldn't do this.

I also have an Oculus Rift connected to one of the HDMI sockets. This obviously only comes on when I put the HMD on my face.

It seems the most simple and effective solution would be to turn the secondary monitor off with it's power switch?

Have you tried running your second monitor from your integrated graphics?

    Hello,

There could be some issues with your current or past driver installation.

I would completely wipe the drivers with a program called DDU (display driver uninstaller) which you can download here:
    http://www.guru3d.com/files-get/display-driver-uninstaller-download,20.html

If you ever had an AMD card in your system I would also use the tool to wipe the AMD drivers as well.

After running the program and removing all your current display drivers re-install the most up to date graphics drivers (you can download them at geforce.com or evga.com) and see if the issue persists.

Tip: Quickly enable/disable/configure monitors in Windows by pressing the Windows + P keys to bring up basic configuration options.

I would look at the windows option because probably the BIOS is seeing the display because it's not windows and the DVI port sending data is causing Windows to look for new monitor before it loads the NVIDIA software.
