That amount of OC/OV won't make that much difference to RAM temperatures. RAM doesn't produce much heat.

Yeah, I´ve imagined that, but since two graphics cards died on me - because of bad ram - I thought it.

So, I´ve done some more tests, here they are:
- I updated my intel chipset drivers with this driver from August 2013 - latest that works for SR-2 - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23061
- Tried, again, to run the R9 290x, since, between those drivers, something caught my eyes: there is updated versions of "Intel(R) ICH10 Family PCI Express Root Port". But, again, no dice: BSOD and RSOD.

I´ll try in another pc this weekend to confirm if this card is bad or it´s incompatible for sure with the NF200, in my case.

P.S.: beyond weirdness, a strange behavior caught my eyes too. When it´s crashing/about to crash, the "Post Port Debug LED" shows the ramp up temps CPU. For example, now it´s showing +ou-30ºC, but, when it´s about to crash, the temps ramp up to 42~45ºC and BSOD/RSOD it. I´ve monitored it and this behavior is always  the same whenever it´s about to crash/crashing.

It takes a second or two for CPUs to get from 30C to 45C under full load with good air cooling. I don't think that means anything.

So, I´ve tested it on a friend´s pc. Unfortunately, in my case,  it´s defective, since it´s shown a lot of screen tearing and flickering while playing/benching, but... hey! No BSOD or RSOD there!
After many things I have tried, NF200 is the culprit for sure - or AMD is the culprit, since every other card works normally.

Hello all,

I have buy new Asus DIRECTCUII OC R9 290X for EVGA SR2

me and it does not work either, reset the bios A58 each time when starting on my SR2 without oc.

I said good I loaded my oc profile and more reset the motherboard but passes the post but after OC motherboard turns off and on again and looping on Off On Off On

Maybe AMD and UEFI bios vga or EVGA motherboard that does not take into account the bios of the ASUS ..

If you do some research, you'll find that the common suspicion is that the AMD R9 2xx cards have issues with motherboards that use NF200 PCIE bridge chips.  The SR-2 uses these, as do a number of enthusiast X58 motherboards.

I'm not sure that a BIOS fix could fix this, or if this can be fixed in AMD's drivers.  It seems like AMD has been dead silent about this, as have MB manufacturers, so I'm not sure a fix will happen.

If you read my previous message in the thread, you'll see that it works perfectly on my 5520 chipset dual Xeon Intel motherboard that does NOT use NF200's, but fails on the SR-2.

Hello,

Yep i think many problem for bios EVGA SR2, because i have  3*6970 asus in sr2, i have not a problem.

For 6970 pcie Gen 2.0, or R9 its Gen 3.0

i think Bios EVGA is  not stable many reset for using R9 system.

but the gen 3 does not not change the operating modulation 2.0 it automatically.

But clear that it bores me to pass on 780TI NV Price not change bad compared to R9

Hello guys,

new SR-2 owner here. Found the same problem with BSOD as well. If you use the render tool of gpu-z, windows wont crash during that time (based on my first tests) which means it happens when card changes freq between p-states.

Anyway, will a 280x work (7970) without problems?

A 7970 worked for me when I tried it - but my configuration was Xen with PCI passthrough to XP64. Never tried it on bare metal Windows.
