Cateno, seems true.  SAS is for serial attached scsi HD network.  SRX is for "Speed and Range eXpansion" which is a network driver, ususally for wireless networks.

So the question is, is there a sas controller built into the x79 chipset?  Or is this just a device being recognized diffrently?  I believe the sr-x has a sas port on it

Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) is apart of the X79 chipset if you look at your hard drives in device manager you see a driver bug which intel needs to fix, Drives full under SCSI Disk Device when they shouldn't SCSI should only been seen if your running a SAS drive on a SAS controller, Like most X79 boards including eVGAs none have SAS ports there is only 1 board which was made by ECS were they used all the features of the X79 chipset so the ECS X79R-AX has 4 native SATA6/SAS ports.

If they do it wont be on the X79 chipset it would be a new chipset which would have native USB3 ports as well, To my understanding the chipsets limited by how much power it can handle so the extra ports mite be to much for the chip, But i would say there will be a newer chipset X88/89 which will have the full 6 native SATAIII/SAS ports and 8-12 native USB3 ports it depends on the power limited on the next chip they release, Until i see a full Native board i wouldn't be upgrading the one i have.
