Hi guys,
My build is like below
3900x cpu
2tb mp600 gen4 nvne
1tb 970 evo gen3 nvme (3500 read / 2500 write speeds)
X570 crosshair hero asus mobo
Evga nu sound card
Evga 2080 ti ftw3

As far as i know 3900x provides 24 pcie lanes. I have 2 nvne ssds which consumes x8 total. Evga 2080 ti consumes x16 that makes 24 pcie lanes right? So Evga nu consumes x1 pcie lane. This makes total of 25 pcie lanes right?

What happens at this point? Does the mobo downgrades the x16 pvie express to c8 pcie express speed ? Because when i try to copy a file from gen4 ssd to gen3 ssd which is 970 evo and has to have around 2.5gb write speeds but it can't get over 1.5gb of write speeds.

Does that one pcie lane of Evga nu cause this ?

Basically i want to know how the pcie lanes work.

Kind regards

    You will be fine.

Place the 2080ti in the top x16 slot and will run at x16 pcie gen 3(since that is all the card will support) (16 lanes straight from CPU).

The 2TB NVME placed in M.2_1 will run at full speed x4 pcie gen 4 (4 lanes straight from CPU).

Place the EVGA nu sound card on the very bottom third x16 slot, it will operate at x1 pcie straight from the AMD chipset.

Place your 970 EVO in the other M.2_2 slot and it will operate just fine at x4 pcie gen 3. AMD chipset has up to 24 lanes but has a maximum speed of 7880MB/s(pcie gen 4x4 link) which is plenty for both you EVGA sound card and older NVME.

If any thing is placed in the second PCIE slot it will drop the first one to x8, so leave it empty since using a 2080ti as it may matter a little.

Edit: not sure where my post went, I swear I hit submit but it disappeared so posting again.

Also not sure about your EVO not performing correctly if you have the M.2 drives installed in the correct places. Could be a driver issue.

Make sure you download the samsung NVME driver so the TurboWrite cache is working properly. Looks like your getting speeds with out the cache.
