Hey guys Cloudz00x here. Bringing you a review of the Ducky Shine 2. A new updated release from the original shine, this keyboard is everything the old version is and more. Ordered the Ducky Shine 2 about 1 week ago and it just came in today. Considering it came from from China it arrived exceptionally fast. Have to give my thanks to Qtan who is the seller for these keyboards. The keyboard itself is SOLD OUT on all E-retailers.... well at-least the specific one I've been looking for. He on the other hand has them in-stock. His website is located here: http://www.vendio.com/sto...chanical-/lid=30446508 I myself as an avid user and adapter to good quality gaming keyboards have gone through numerous keyboards, Razer, Logitech and more. I've never heard of the ducky keyboards back then until earlier this year I was enlightened by a buddy of mine. Quality, Mechanical Keys, an intuitive LED system these keyboards are definitely worth the price tag. Seemingly so its almost the same price as a Razer Ultimate which is total crap to be honest.... yes I owned one. Without further ado the Ducky Shine 2. Front of the Box Back of the Box When opening up the box, it's simple inside. Everything is nicely packed and neat. What comes inside the box: *Manual *Ducky Shine 2 Keyboard *W,A,S,D Keys in Red *Key Picker * Gold Plated USB to Mini USB Backside of the keyboard DIP switched located behind the keyboard. The DIP switches allow for an easy transition for MAC users. This enables the change of the Ctrl,Alt,Win keys to fit MAC PC's. Here's the Ducky Logo The keyboards used in this review are as follows: Ducky DK9008 Shine 2 White LED ( Cherry MX Blue ) Ducky DK9008 Shine 2 Blue LED ( Cherry MX Blue ) Showing off the Cherry MX Blue Keys. These keys are the highest standard of keys which include it's counterparts (Brown, Red, Black) Here's a good look of the premium LEDS attached to each of the keys. Boy these things are awesome. Great Key quality and a long lasting LED life. One of the functions of the keyboard is to have separate keys illuminated at once while the other keys are off. This is possible, due to the Ducky Shine 2 have having memory installed inside. You have the ability to record 2 different settings. To turn on the first setting you need to press FN+ F8, for the second one you need to press FN+F9. With the installation of the memory we can also customize these settings to our liking. FN+ PrtSc to record the first setting. To end the first recording repress the PrtSc key FN+ Pause to record the second setting. To end the second recording repress the Pause key. My personal settings for games. For most FPS games, the WASD key is used. I also incorporate the shift for running and the alt key for crouching. I'm also an avid League of Legends Gamer. So these keys illuminated in the second settings are very useful. The Ducky Shine II Keyboard allows us 5 Different methods of illumination. This is direct from the manual: -------- | First time: 60% LED's Illuminated | Second Time: All LED's Illuminated FN+F10 | Third Time: Pulsing Mode | Fourth Time: Reactive Mode | Fifth Time: Scrolling Text Marquee | Sixth Time: All LED OFF -------- FN+F11 Reduce LED Brightness Intensity FN+F12 Increase LED Brightness Here's a Picture of the first mode. The second mode shows us the entire keyboard illuminated. Here is a Video to show off the Third, Fourth and Fifth modes of the keyboard. Here's a picture of me key clicking to show off Reactive Mode. Now here I am displaying the high powered LED Illumination. When we first start off the LED'S turn on at 60% power. They increase by 10% increments when increasing intensity. Here's the keyboard at 60% Illumination. Here we have it at 70% intensity. Here it is at 80% Here it is at 90% Finally 100%. I found out something interesting when putting the keyboard to 100% intensity. Lights are flickering and moving on my camera lens in a vertical position. Weird but when taking the picture everything came out clear. I must say at 100% these LED's are intense. Honestly I don't see any users going above 70%. At 100% the blue LED's seem to be over strong and may strain yours if you look directly at them. A Ducky Shine wouldn't be complete without the ducky logo illuminated. I really do like there logo. There are other logo's aswell, MechaniclKeyboards.com have there M on the space bar while OverClock.net has there website URL on the space-bar. I still like my Duck.... QUACK! Overall the Ducky Shine II exceeds all my expectation for an everyday keyboard and a gaming keyboard. With different variations from LEDS and Keys to choose from the keyboard is fantastic. The Mechanical Keys add a long lasting life to this keyboard making this a good solution for many users. The contact feels superb while the overall simplistic look of the keyboard is great in this viewers eyes. Some may need the fancy Macro keys and side profile buttons with the extra doodads that do something else. Quality, Perfection, Execution is what makes these keyboard stand out from the rest. For any 3rd party modifiers that like to spice things u[p the keys are removable and replaceable with your own custom key caps. Stores online have crazy design. An awesome design I saw was, someone special ordered a "Iron Man" ESC key cap. So if they can do that they can do mostly anything you can think of. I am officially trading in my previous keyboards and using the Ducky Shine II for both my PC's. So if you guys are currently looking or thinking of an upgrade. Why not skip the hassles that manufactures throw on us with their keyboards. Go with a company that has proven to go above and beyond. The Ducky Shine II Keyboard is a gamers passion yet a workers fantasy. What are you waiting for? Why don't you own one yet! Proof the Iron Man ESC key cap exists: You can also follow me on my Super Snake Cobra 5.0 Custom Rig Build Log All the products in the review are going to be put to the test with this rig. Wow, been reading about this new model but your review sure shows the LED options in a new light Thanks for posting this. Nice shot of the Iron Man key - I've seen the skulls and candy-corn layered keycaps before among others, but not that one!

What are the functions of the 4 keys above the 10-key? I can't find a single clear image or explanation online, one looks like a letter (mail) and maybe a calculator?

You mean above the 0 key?, there is no 10 key unless you mean F10. So are you talking F5-F8 or F9-F12

Calculator, My Computer, Outlook, and Home(Loads your default browser.... If your in the browser it loads your homepage) All shortcut keys. Don't even need to press FN, Ctrl or anything. Don't know if these keys are changeable to different shortcuts. I don't believe these are changeable since the memory is already attached to your different profiles on the keyboard and there is no software for the keyboard.

Do they actually work? I've had keyboards with similar keys that must not know or use the correct directories and just end up not doing anything. Also I haven't had to use Outlook in such a long time...

Also I haven't had to use Outlook in such a long time... Yea they worked, just clicked all of them again. Only useless one I find is the outlook. Maybe that can be an upgrade the the Shine III when they decide to make it, customizable shortcut keys. Would be nice if they allowed the email shortcut key to lets say open up gmail.com, yahoo.com, hotmail.com depending on what you use. The other three though are pretty good and I find myself using it every so often when needed. Just in case you want to know to know. All Media keys, Volume up, down, mute, reverse, forward, play/pause are all working. Telling ya, they don't skimp on this keyboard. Everything is done right... well except the windows outlook lol.

Phero Sounds good then. I was looking into Ducky Shine keyboards for awhile as my next one, I didn't even know that they had the Shine IIs out. Yea certain keys like the blue and brown get sold out fast. Specially since a common combo people are interested in is Blue LED, Blue MX keys White LED Blue MX Keys Blue LED, Brown MX keys White LED, Brown MX Keys MechanicalKeyboards.com Tigerimports.com These retailers are all sold out. If you do find them online, there in stock via Australia sites but they don't ship to the USA or other countries... only within AUS. When they do get restocked, there shipment is usually sold out so fast that a lot of people are out of luck. They don't buy 300+ keyboards at a time... they do like 20-30 at a time. So I did some serious searching and found Qtan on ebay and his website. His prices on the website are 20$ cheaper then on ebvay. It seems he probably has a direct connection to the manufacturer since he does NOT run out of any type of keyboard you ask for. Which is good in my book. Ebay - 189.99? Website - 169.99 The website link can be located on the first post. So of course that was a no brain-er. He packaged them with bubble wrap all over. Some dents on the corners but I can't expect a perfect shipment especially since it's coming from China and then has to go through customs. All in all, I am extremely happy with my purchase. This keyboard rocks.

HAZMAN_THE_GREAT Hey does this keyboard also come with other color switches? I hate the stupid sound that mechanical keyboards make. It reminds me of some one smacking their gum when they chew it. I usually use the best membrane keyboard which is the Alienware TactX in the picture below. I was really thinking about getting your keyboard before my Alienware one. Its because I just love how bright it is as well as how it has the pulse effect. Boy if I was at a LAN party with that ducky keyboard I would show it off. NICE REVIEW! Well it's all dependent on the keys. Each key is different and the sound that comes out is different. Cherry MX Blue keys are the most prominent and loudest click out of all the keys. I actually enjoy those keys cause it sounds nice and works great. Here is a good explanation of keyboards and keys. http://www.daskeyboard.com/blog/?page_id=1458 YouTube video of the different Cherry MX key sounds: Cherry MX Black - No Tactile Sound Cherry MX Red - Similar to Blacks Cherry MX Brown - Semi Tactile Sound Cherry MX Clear - Little more prominent then Browns Cherry MX Blue - The highest prominent sound of all the keys. So for your needs since Blue makes to much of a sound for your liking. I'd say go with the Browns. Watch the video and make your own decision. I do recommend changing from your membrane to a mechanical though. The great thing about Ducky's you create it how you want it. You get to choose the LED color and the MX keys associated with it.

Man that guy has some chubby hands lol. I would rather have the black switches because you say they make the least amount noise. But in the video the brown switches seemed to be a bit more quieter than the black switches. I have used a mechanical keyboard before. People claim that they type faster with a mechanical keyboard. Well I put myself to the test between a mechanical and a non mechanical keyboard. What was funny is I actually typed the same amount of words per minute with both keyboards. I can type 73 words per minute. That's pretty slow for a person who is a computer enthusiast like me as well as being on the computer all the time.

Your ears and fingers reach to the clicking sound the keyboard makes. So your release of the key is faster and heading to the next key. So the time put in to using mechanical keyboards allow for faster typing.

The noise will bother me is when I am typing up 5 page papers for school. Its funny I am not a picky guy when it comes to sound like those people who are picky and want a quiet PC. Its just that sound man from the keyboard reminds me of something I hate you know bro. Any ways I like to have my things to be FAST N LOUD, just like my Cobra lol.

Wishing the Price of the Ducky Shine 2 was a lot smaller, but you get what you pay for. I had my eye on that keyboard since the day the rumors started about it being made. Instead I went with a CM Storm Quickfire, which I picked up for $35, and have been loving it since I got it(today :P). I'll probably end up getting the Ducky Shine 2, White LED, Cherry Blues around Christmas time.

IIRC, the original Ducky Shine had a flaw where the keyboard would reset the backlight settings back to it's default mode (no backlighting) whenever you restarted your computer (or in general, the keyboard losing power and powering up again). I found that to be a little annoying and I held off purchasing one of those keyboards... Does the Shine II still do that?
