Hello! I am in the process of choosing parts for a new system and recently saw that both the SuperNOVA P5 and SuperNOVA P6 line of power supplies debuted no later than a few months ago. There is not much literature between the two yet, and so I wanted to ask what the key differences were so that myself and others can make an informed decision?
From just comparing both 1000W examples side-by-side using the product comparison tool, I observed the following:
- the SuperNOVA P5 is $50 less expensive than the SuperNOVA P6
- the SuperNOVA P5 is 10mm longer in length (150mm versus 140mm in the SuperNOVA P6)
- the SuperNOVA P5 comes with 13 sleeved cables, while the SuperNOVA P6 comes with 9 flat cables
I will admit to only having a surface level understanding of power supplies, but both are 80 Plus Platinum rated. It seems that the SuperNOVA P6 has the advantage in smaller form factor, but if that is not a concern it appears that the SuperNOVA P5 matches the SuperNOVA P6 in some places, and offers more for less money (namely the cables. Flat or sleeved is probably up to user preference). Unless there are construction quality differences that I am not seeing?
Thanks to anyone who reads this, and for your assistance in clarification.
