I recently tried to put 8gb of Corsair Dominator in my 780i SLI (2X GTX280 Cards with 1250 watt PSU) and was unpleasantly greeted with the inability to POST. I tried changing the ram from socket to socket, and once in a while I was greeted with a very long beep, and the inability to POST. When I remove one of the sticks leaving 6gb, the computer boots up and seems to work fine. This is not optimal, because I am using SLI. This RAM works great when only using 4gb, but I really need 8gb for the work I am doing. I am running Windows 7 64bit and have generally had a good experience. Can someone point me to guaranteed RAM that will work with this board when configured as 8gb? It would be GREATLY appreciated!!

The problem may not be the RAM that you are using, but rather the load that you are putting on the memory controller. You may need to increase the voltage to the memory controller. This will either be the SPP or the MCP, I cant remember. Someone else chime in here. Also you need to check all of your sticks, and make sure that they are all rated for the same voltage, and timings. If they are not, this will cause problems. If they are, then make sure you go into the bios and set the voltages and timings to what the memory is rated for, do not let the bios determine these settings.

All sticks are identical. I tried playing with voltages as described in other threads here. Always the same no POSTing. Also, I should add I am on P09 BIOS.

you will need to bump the spp voltage and the fsb voltage a bit, try also to loosen up the timings on your ram.

I have an idea what to increase the voltages to, unfortunately "loosen up timings" is a little too vague. I am not sure what the timings actually mean, so any recommendations and explanations would be much appreciated.

Loosening your timings means that you change the timing numbers to something higher. e.g. from 8-8-8-19 to 9-9-9-20.

Tried all these settings, in multiple configs, but no go. System still wont boot with 8gb, just sits there. Power button LED actually goes on and off a few times. The system will boot with 6gb, but becomes very unstable in both Windows and Ubuntu. With 4gb (any mix of the 4 sticks), the system runs like a dream and supports all maxed out settings. Any other ideas?

XrayMan http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145197&cm_re=dominator-_-20-145-197-_-Product That's the Ram I have. 8GB of it. Works flawlessly. Sadly, this is the ram that I have. There is one difference between your board (from your sig) and mine. You have the FTW board, and mine is the non-FTW version. Additionally, I am running 2X evga GTX280s in SLI configuration. I wonder if these differences are not allowing me to boot with 8gb? Thanks for the link BlastU2pcs -- I will give it a try!! Thanks!!
