You mean Ryzen 9 3950X 16 core in the streets like a boss and 10980xe and 9900k in the sheets
Thank you for the real benchmark results RJ. I m not a big fan of benchmarks, but this clearly gives you an idea of how the 3950X compares with other CPUs.
No BR for the first AMD 3950x results in this forum?

M.2 speeds are looking nice man. Speaking of which, funny thing is I just put a Corsair Force 1TB M.2 in my Ryzen VR build and somehow I’m getting about 4700 reads and 4300 write speeds on a B450 board that I thought they disabled PCI-E 4.0 support on.

While AMD doesn’t officially support it I heard a few bios’s on some B450 and X470 do support it, it’s just not official.

Kinda like how MSI b450 boards supported overclocking on locked AM4 athlon processors.

I have heard the soon to be released B550 boards will have pcie gen 4 on all the lanes coming from the Cpu but will be gen 3 from the chipset.

So gen 4 on first x16 slot and the main m.2 slot coming from the cpu.

All other slots and m.2 off the chipset will be gen 3.

Sounds like a great combination to me to reduce cost but still moving forward with gen 4.

Yeah I kinda thought it was an “unofficial” bonus of my drive working way faster than I was expecting. Even though it’s not reaching the speeds it’s rated for it is doing way more than the 3.0 speed I thought I was going to be getting. It was given to me as a gift is really the only reason I have it. Makes me wonder now as I never really looked at it but if I put my RX 5700 XT back in would it also read as 4.0? Hmm....:

Indeed🤔. If it is 4.0 PCI compatible it wouldn't hurt to try.😸.

Don’t want to hijack RJs thread but real quick. I put the RX 5700 XT back in and it does read as PCI-E 4.0 initially upon detection when opening GPU-Z but in a game it goes down to 3.0. my guess is that it detects it’s 4.0 capable from CPU and GPU but the board won’t let it run at full bandwidth. Not that it really matters since there Is really no difference in the cards performance from 4.0 to 3.0.

I just find it odd that I’m able to blow past 3.0 speeds on my M.2 but not the GPU. They are both PCI-E devices.

I would call the Tech department of the mobo company and question that glitch. It would be interested to know what they say to you.🤔

It's great at 1440p. However it seems Nvidia's just plain better when it comes to VR performance. Their driver team is just better at extracting more from their hardware. I don't experience the same frame drops and jitters with the RTX 2070. After having run the RTX 2070 and a direct comparison to the 5700 XT, it's the 2070 that's giving me a more consistent experience. Which is a shame, because a RTX 2070 vanilla shouldn't be keeping up with (much less outperforming) a 5700 XT. VR it seems is another matter AMD needs to address in their drivers.

I would suggest this CPU block if you do go custom, these will be back in stock in a few weeks:
https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-quantum-momentum-rog-crosshair-viii-hero-d-rgb-plexi

Just got one similar to that for my board, keeps everything extremely cool. Not sure I have seen CPU temps below 20C at idle before my current set-up.

I would suggest this CPU block if you do go custom, these will be back in stock in a few weeks:

Just got one similar to that for my board, keeps everything extremely cool. Not sure I have seen CPU temps below 20C at idle before my current set-up.

Thing is none of VRMs on the high end X570 boards need watercooling, they're so well built and the CPU's use so much less power than the 14nm Intel stuff.  What I would have loved to have seen was some kind of monoblock design that incorporated the chipset as well so we could get rid of the fan on it.

I'm not sure about that, reading this article... the power usage is pretty similar.

If you are running a Ryzen 9, it's worth cooling the VRM's.
