I am running a system with Asus P6x58D mobo, intel x25-m for boot drive and WD Caviar Black for data and would like to setup RAID 1 when I pick up another WD Caviar Black. Having done more reading on the subject, should I have to enable TLER on these 2 drives? Is there anyone out there who has this or a similar setup? According to the below link, the newer blacks are having RAID issues:

Seems like unless you get lucky and get an older drive, there might be issues with enabling TLER. Apparently the Caviar RE (RAID edition??) come with TLER enabled already. I wonder if you can RAID a black and an RE version since only the firmware is different? Or chance your arm on getting a black that won't drop from the array...thoughts?

Well I really dont know the answer to your question, but I have the eVGA 58 Classified and run a OCZ SSD (120GB) for Operating systems and two WD Caviar Black (1 TB) drives in RAID 0 and have no problems at all.

I have had my black's drop on me 8 times in 6 mos. You didn't say how long SAMOEDADDY???
Some ppls seem to think that when they have had good luck for three weeks everything is rock stable.

UPDATE: I just found this from an EVGA forums thread, a thread on TomsHardware.com regarding the non-compatibility of WD Caviar black in RAID:

    TomsHardware.com: [Solved] Caviar Black 1tb Raid 0

It seems that WD Caviar blacks are no longer compatible with RAID!
And some pre-2010 drives are compatible if you can enable "TLER."
Apparently this is a new change in the Caviar Black firmware from late 2009. Previous drives may work fine in RAID.

    Main (gaming) rig: i7-3930K; Asus Rampage IV Extreme; H100 W/p-p Excaliburs, AS5; MSI 7870 2GD5/OC; Crucial M4 SSD 256GB.
See my primary ModsRigs: Adam for the rest, and I have a second (wife's) rig Asus Rampage III Extreme & 960: Eve.

Overclocking is useless to me if it is not rock stable.

I have had mine a couple of months with no problems. I guess I better hope they dont die then. Running good now though.
