Hi there everybody. I'm considering buying a new ram kit for the mobo, and i have some questions about this matter.

It's an 8gb kit, Kingston HyperX.. The frequency is 1333mhz, but as far as i recall the mobo supports only up to 1200mhz right?

AfaIk the only thing happening is that the ram simply just go by the 1200mhz, right?

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I've read a post about this mobo, not being too satisfied about running 4 sticks of ram. Is it an overall issue, or just some single cases of this happening?

Hoping for some kind person, helping me along, giving me advice, as I would call myself close to "rookie" in this subject :)

Best regards

Lasse.

Is that RAM DDDR2 or DDR3?

    The 680i only takes DDR2.

Also what you read about the 680i only liking 2 sticks of ram is correct.  The memory controller is flaky and running 4 sticks can cause problems.  Stick to two 2GB sticks of DDR2 from your standard company and things will work just fine.

I have never personally had issues running 4 sticks of RAM, but the problem does exist.
And if you put RAM that is faster than your motherboard can support, it just runs at the speed your motherboard can handle, you may consider downclocking the ram so it matches what the motherboard can support, but there -should- be no issues with putting RAM in that is faster than the motherboard can support.
Also make sure it is DDR2 (as Richard99 said), DDR3 will not fit into the RAM slots on the 680i

I generally gained good experiences using Kingston RAM, but I never used a 8 Gb Kit.

I mailed the support team because I also want to upgrade to 8 Gb (not to find in the compatibility list). They told me to try corsair, so I ordered the 8 Gb DDR2 800 Kit (Q2X8G6400C4DHX) and hope it arrives tomorrow.

    I will post the results.

Why do you want to use 1333MHz Ram?

Ps. I never had problems using 4 mem sticks.

Hello to all 680i SLI owners,

the Corsair Quad Kit (Q2X8G6400C4DHX) has just arrived. I set all mem parameters to "AUTO", changed the 4 x 1 Gb Patriot with the new 4 x 2 Gb Corsair and the PC/BIOS/OS didn´t have any problem.

    Vista 32bit, 7 64bit run stable and memtest86+ v4.00 passed without errors.

Timing and Voltage were automaticly adjusted as in Jedec#2 with 5-5-5-16 @ 1,8V. The next days I will see if the 4-4-4-12 @ 2,1V are possible with 4 sticks.

    Thanks to Support and Corsair
