I followed this guide for the voltage change
"Now this is where it gets tricky as everyboard and cpu is different so will require different voltages what I am using is a guide to get most to work, so enter:
1.41250 as the "CPU Core" voltage.
1.4v as the "CPU FSB"
For the memory enter what your Memory is rated at mine is 2.2v yours might/will be different, if you dont know leave it on auto, or ask in this thread and Ill help as much as I can.
1.45 as the nForce SPP (Northbridge)
1.525 as the nForce MCP (Southbridge)
1.34 as the HT nForce SPP <-> MCP."

My original voltage was

CPU Core: 1.28V
CPU FSB:   1.2V
MEMORY:   1.850V SWITCHED TO 2.10V TO MACH THE MEMORY CARD
NFORCE SPP : 1.25V
NFORCE MCP: 1.500V
HT NFORCE SPP-MCP: 1.20V

I only raised the cpu fsb to 1333 from1066 cause i didn't wanna exceed my mobo's official limit.
I heard some people overclocking their q6600 without changing their voltage do they live it on auto?

What you guys recommend trying, is the cpu core increase from 1.28v to 1.4125v too much for just 1333mhz from 1066mhz?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice given.

with that much Vcore you can probably increase the FSB to 1600 or higher. You dont need more that default voltage for 1333 FSB. Also, the Vtt is high for that FSB, 1.2V should be plenty.

    core: 1.4
    fsb: 1.4
    mem: fact. spec.
    spp: 1.4
    mcp: 1.55
    ht: 1.4

fsb - memory clock mode (unlinked)
    fsb - (qdr) ,mhz (1467) = 3.3
you need an aftermarket hsf and hook up the lil fan on the north and south bridge
been running this for going on 7 years :P
temps should not go over 60*
you prolly can go higher, mine is only stable at 3.3

the guide i read said to try to keep temps under 50c and right now my temps go up to 48c so i'm worrying on going higher, to try the default voltages should i enter them manually or just switch back to auto.

Tj Max temp (the individual cores temp) for the Q6600 B3 stepping is 80C and 90C for the G0..48C (under load) is not even close to breaking a sweat yet.
The VID Voltage Range (core voltage) is 0.8500V-1.5V..That's what Intel says Q6600's need just to operate at the stock 2.4GHz depending on the particular batch of CPU's..Depending on the VID of your particular CPU you'll need more or less to achieve a certain frequency..Set the voltage manually, not on auto.
To answer your question "is the cpu core increase from 1.28v to 1.4125v too much for just 1333mhz from 1066mhz?"..No (if it's stable), your load temp (assuming you mean 48C is your load temp, not idle temp) is more than good and you're still under Intel's max VID of 1.5V (which really means little to anyone who OC's)..Looks like you have alot of headroom for an even higher OC should you choose to do so.

do you have a g0 or b3 chip?  These 65nm q6600 are pretty stout and take a lot of heat, I tried to stay under 80c with my g0 with it running 3.6 24/7 since the start.  I went for broke from the start and went 1600/800 lync and sync and eventually found that to be my ideal setting even though I was also stable at 3.8 (just too hot, little gain).

my cpu model is SLACR HH80562PH0568M i don't know if it's go or be yet, i was able to lower my cpu core from 1.4125 to 1.4000 but today my pc crashed so i switched it back to 1.4125 also the cpu fsb if i get it lower than 1.4 the pc crashes also. Another thing i forgot to add is that after i overclocked  the q6600 i get a chirping noise when it's processing, i've read on this forum that it's the 680i sli coils that make this noise.

also before i installed the q6600 cpu i noticed some grey dots between the gold dots under it, some people call them grey chalk dots, does that mean the previous owner had overclock it too much?

You have a G0 according to CPU World..But you can use CPU-Z to tell you for sure, it will be shown as the "Revision" number.
You may be getting some "coil whine" (if that's what it actually is) from your mobo, if you can isolate it you might be able to stop it by shutting down and applying a few drops of super glue to the coils and let it dry..The grey dots are normal, mine has them too, right from the box when new.

what are the rest of your overclock setting and what are you going for?

thanks i checked cpu z and i have go revision and b stepping,

my settings for OC are 1333mhz cpu fsb, 1066 mhz for memory and the same voltage posted on the first post.

Another question i have is some guides for overclocking the q6600 on 680i leave enabled virtualization technology and execute disable bit while others disable them, i chose to disable them, is it necessary though?

"The grey dots are normal, mine has them too, right from the box when new. "
thanks a lot for this i was worrying so much!

I have Execute Disable Bit enabled, some ppl don't, it can help prevent malicious code execution when enabled..You don't need Vitualization Technology enabled, unless you have a Virtual Machine environment.
