Well I saw Amazon has it up for preorder and I did it then quickly cancelled after noticing I was charged almost $40 tax lol.  Newegg I don't get charged tax, don't think anybody does there, so I'd save that money and try getting it there.  They now say 4/9 for ETA on Newegg so just bookmark what you want and check it the night of the 8th and early on the 9th until it comes in stock.

Chances are the pre-order queue at Amazon is a mile long..  I'd do both..  Pre-order it now where you can and if you can get it someplace else, cancel your pre-order and then order someplace else.

most online sites, will let you preorder and will not charge you until the item shipps, they will also notify you before the item shipps, in case you want to cancell, the only company i know that charges you right of the bat is zipzoom fly, if you order it now, you will be charged today, i know newegg, has the notify me ticker, amazon is still letting peop preorder, you might not have any luck on the acutal release date on these cards if you want to take your chances, good luck.

I would only pre-order from a place that doesn't tie up your funds or make it difficult to cancel your order.  Amazon is one such place, unfortunately they have a horrible track record of actually fulfilling high demand pre-orders like this, at least for me.  Other retailers may actually lock you in and make it impossible to cancel quickly, so I'd avoid those places, I believe ZZF is one of those.

I personally don't like being locked in because when these actually come in stock, they're all going to get them simultaneously and when that happens, I want the flexibility to order from the site that has the best prices, best bundle, best shipping speed etc.  With shipping, Newegg and TD are far better in that regard than some of the others like EVGA, Mwave, ZZF, sometimes Amazon are all West Coast so the cheapest shipping method (Ground) takes much longer to get to me on the EC.

    I pre-ordered from Fry's
    http://www.frys.com/produ...sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
They technically don't charge you but put an authorization on your CC.
Their estimated ship date is the 14th, so that should give you some time to try other places and keep fry's as a back up

No, as long as you follow the only rule of ordering GTX 480s from Newegg:

Rule #1: Wait until chizow gets his order confirmation before ordering.

most usually charge you a dollar and return it to you to verify a live card is attached to the billing. I have 1 preordered on Amazon, but plan on cancelign as long as I get my 2 from newegg

Frys actually put the full amount of authorization. I guess it sucks, I'm just going to avoid using my CC so I have space to order it on newegg if I get lucky

So how does ordering work on newegg for release day products anyways?  Are you allowed to order at 12AM EST that day? Or does it usually occur earlier/later?

As far as the Amazon delivery estimates, those are usually very inaccurate and I always receive my products way ahead of that window.
Just something I've noticed with them.
Although Chizow, you say a mass-order like this has not been a good experience for you with them?

Yeah latest experience with that was with the Intel G2 drives, Amazon had them at near MSRP with an estimated ship of 2-4 weeks.....back then MSRP was $230 for the 80GB and $440 for the 160GB.  I ordered the 160GB as soon as it popped up middle of September, but it never shipped, even after a month passed.  In the meantime, price was getting gouged all over the place, $300+ at most places for the 80GB and $500-600 for the 160GB.  Luckily I caught a Newegg Cyber Monday twitter sale....they "dropped" the price like $150 to $430 or something, then I got another 10% BCB off of that so i got it for $360 or something.
