Saw this thread on another forum, thought it would be fun to see over here :) Basically, simple rules. Post pics of your PC's from your first ever build, to your current. Next person can then comment on how your style has changed. Leave a comment for the above poster. Ill start... My first computers were just the typical old 386/486 gray box boring machines. I had a 386(4), 486(2),486dx2, Pentium 1, Pentium MMX, Celeron(333mhz), Pentium 2(3), Pentium 3. Those were all just gray box machines, not to much thought of cable managment nor caring about the way the case looks... Then the Pentium 4 era hit. I decided since I was in highschool then, it was a good time to build a high end computer that could play games and look good too. I think i had the 3.4ghz model. A gigabyte mobo, 2x512meg ram, a all-in-wonder 9600, and my favorite..a Audigy 2 with the front panel. I had this case- after a couple years of running the computer like that, I got so sick of that case and the noise it produced. So I opted to buy this one, and another gig of ram :) Sometime about 18 or so months ago I decided my old P4 & ancient AGP vid card wasnt up to the task to modern games...or anything else for that matter.I picked up a amd dual core bundle from my buddy for about $300 (mobo/proc/memory/cooler/crossfired x1600's) It also went in my old Chenbro Gaming Bomb 2 case (listed above) I just couldnt deal with it anymore. Thats when I finally decided to bump up to the 775 socket. I got myself a gigabyte mobo, a Q9550, 4 gigs of gskill ram, a HAF932, a 250gts, a V8, a 650 coolermaster powersupply and I upgraded my old Audigy to a X-Fi. I had caught the bug and just had to get more, I found myself slowly looking around and thinking about a bigger system, once I had lined up my buddy to buy my new 775 system from me, I quickly put together a I7 build consisting of a 920 D0, a EVGA 758, 6 gigs of gskill ram, a gtx275, a megahalems, and a hx850. I also reused my X-Fi (still got it)At this time I decided I should paint my HAF. (sorry no pics) I thought I could deal with just staying on air, but eventually got fed up with the OC wall and noise. Now was the time to go watercooled. I also took the opportunity to pick up some sleeved extensions :) I then picked up a 470 opening day. Decided I needed more power too,So out with the 275 in with the 470, out with the hx850 and in with the EVO1250Got tired of the heat from the 470, sold it to my cousin and bought a 480 with intent to watercool it.At this point my buddy needed to upgrade his case, I took the opportunity to grab myself a MM UFO. As long as I had the UFO I wanted to upgrade my watercooling, so in goes another old school PA120.3 Got my waterblock for the 480 in and redid my loop, moved the pump too :) Since these pics Ive taken the ugly grills of the front and re-ran some of my cable management. A couple more mods and Ill be happy with it....for now :3

We had a real old pc that we trashed when I was young so I do not know about that one * it did have a wacky screen saver with flying toasts. Then we moved to one of the first dell dimensions *around year 2000* Then when I was in 6th grade I got my own pc from AOL it had a low range intel 256 mb of ram and I added a MX4400 to it. Then I wanted to game so that joker did not cut it so I built the pc I have not but it was not that same pc as now. It started with a gig of ram, amd 3200 X2, two 7600 GS's, a 250 gig HD, and a 500 watt PSU and MSI k9N4 motherboard. After a year I upgraded to a 8800 GTS 512, amd 5000 X2 Black ed. and 4 gigs of ram. This lasted me for 2 years untill my 8800 died then I upgraded to a 260 SSC. Then last summer I upgraded from my 5000 X2 to a phenom x4 965 and a ASUS m4A77D motherboard. -Next to come is a upgrade on motherboard again and ram. Maby getting a DX11 GPU.

I think so many pics would make way to slow to load, at least put in a warning saying picture heavy or something

i never took pics until my latest rigs but i can tell you the basics of what was in them my first PERSONAL not family computer was a bestbuy bought amd 64 2400 i think with a onboard gpu with only 2 gigs of ram ran dark age of Camelot and i was happy =D after that it broke down so a friend of mine (yes i didnt get into building computers myself till later) built me a 6800 gpu card comp with an amd 3400+ cpu and 4 gigs of ram after that i wanted a better rig so a friend did (i honestly forgot what i had upgraded) then i wanted to start from scratch so i asked him to build it for me again (this was like 2 yrs ago so yes im fairly new for all my knowledge) he would not come over unless i paid him alot. i got pissed and decided how hard could it be that was my 780i with a Q9450 8 gigs of ram and a 8800GTS After that i started upgrading part by part the 8800 became a 280 from XFX which crapped out of me and i rmaed sold it and bought a 285 from evga (this is when i became a fanboi of evga =P) bought a second one later on then i wanted to learn how to oc and wanted more powah so i upgraded most of my system to an (no not haf 932 yet) antec 1200 with a i7 920(the one i use today) and a domino alc and found that it was lacking in size and space(because i couldnt fit the domino hehe) so after a while of use i sold that and moved to a haf 932 there is a pic of how disorganized it is in my mods rigs(the one with he red glow) then about 6 months ago i finally moved to what you may see in my mods rigs system a NICE and neat in a haf x overclocked to a humble XD 4.2ghz with 1602mhz 6 7 6 18 timed ram(6 gigs) 2 480s and a raid 0 storage as well as a vrap for my os (stop shunning me ssd lovers i couldnt afford an ssd =( ) my next upgrade most likely will be an ssd once they are more afforable also i have a monitor upgrade path as well went from flatscreen with low res 18" to a 23" widescreen 1600x900 to a 1080p 23" samsung to an LG 32" S-IPS tv screen to my lovely lady 42" LED-LCD 1080p 2.6 ms =D

This is Seabigbear II I bulid it cause of my house fire & no I did not have info I ganed here or else it would here been a lot diffrent bulid but it got me through a bad time in my life & BTW I hated that case with a passion but here's the specs & pics. Antec 900 with an EVGA 780i, Q9650/Zalman 9700 and GTX260s in SLI. A nice start. Still, absolutely horrid cable management. Although I will say using that red fan on the side panel created a nice effect with the green cold cathode. I wasn't able to max any games out, but it was a tremendous learning experience. Must have taken me two whole nights to get this baby put together. Again, I would show you the far side with the panel off so you can oogle at the cable management I had. But I don't wanna give you nightmares. Never being one to settle, I upgraded to an Antec 1200 case, with Crucial Ballistix Tracers DDR3 RAM and the Zalman CNPS10X heatsink. Also stepped up to the EVGA GTX285s in SLI. I was able to get those Tracers down to 7-7-7-18 @ 1600 at one point, although the "green" led Ballistix are really yellow. I have to admit, the Antec 1200 was a beautiful case and it was really hard saying goodbye to it after it was sold. I'm a bit sentimental that way, oh well. At last, the i7 call had been heard loud and clear. This is a few months after the i7 was released in early 2009, along with the EVGA X58 SLI LE. So I ripped apart my setup again, installed the 920 D0 and was within the big boys' grasp. The Zalman CNPS10X Extreme HSF performed admirably on my 4.2GHz overclocked 920, but I did get scared a few times during Prime95 runs. Let's just say I knew water was my only option if I wanted to go any further. I did have a bit of excessive hose at first. And Windows 7 does need a backhand at times. But I'm truly blessed to be able to have learned so much so fast. Parts are in and out often, but the permanent pieces are in my sig.

I love these threads! Jaw dropping rigs in the first post. Seabigbear, that's a hell of a lot of cooling hehe. I actually removed four 120mm fans from my ATCS 840 since I'm going to get a new GTX 480 cooler soon. Anyway, lets see what we have here... Semi complete piece of crap in an Antec 300. XFX 680i LT, E8400, 4 x 1 GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800, GTX 260 CORE 216 55nm, 9600GT, OCZ CrapXStream 700W. Cooler that was gonna be used was the iBuyPower IBP-Z001, my review is here. Upgraded case to Cooler Master ATCS 840. Also got a Prolimatech Megahalems with two Scythe CrapStream 120mm x 25mm fans, and 2 x 2 GB OCZ Reaper DDR2 1066 RAM. Upgraded case with some more mods and fans. New PSU - Antec TruePower New 750W, installed on the top this time so extra bottom fans could be used. Upgraded PPU to 9800GT. More fan mods done to the case, including modded side panel. Swapped out GTX 260 for a GTX 480. Put the plain windowed side panel back on, got some good fans for the Megahalems (Panaflos), EVGA P55 FTW motherboard, 2 x 2 GB G.SKILL ECO DDR3 1600 CL7 RAM, i5 760 CPU, Killer 2100 NIC.

My first PC was one I assembled with help from a family friend which consisted mostly of garage sale and back alley computer parts. My first "real" PC was one I built myself. It had a AMD K6-II processor overclocked by 50Mhz. I don't remember much else about it other than the Voodoo 2 3000 video card and a Voodoo TV tuner card. But I have no pictures of it. My second PC was a Dell Dimension 3000. I guess I like 3000's?! I bought it because it was pretty well built and priced very well. No pictures of that either except for a CPU mod: The Dell Dimension's lack of upgradeability turned me off to pre-builts and I went back to building my own. My next computer was made with parts from Fry's Electronics. It had a ABIT IP35 Pro motherboard and a Core 2 Due E6750 processor. It also had a 8800GT video card. Once again, I have no pictures of it. I upgraded that PC into a Antec Sonata II case which contained a EVGA 780i and an E8400 (then later upgraded to E8500). I also bought a second 8800GT and then liquid cooled it all with a Thermaltake drivebay cooler. I liked the system, but the case was just too cramped to do any serious watercooling with. I then moved over the major components into a Coolermaster Cosmos S case and then did some serious watercooling. The water cooling was great for performance, but the hassle got to me eventually. When I upgraded again, I built a whole new computer (again at Fry's) and this time I resorted to air cooling. Well, I did add the Corsair H50 later and now I am up to the H70, but I serious watercooling and the hassles and complexity associated should not be compared to a H50 or H70. My next computer will probably go back towards the larger case and water cooling again. Despite the fact that I am annoyed by large cases and water cooling, I still miss the performance I could achieve.

"back in my day" my first pc(loose definition of term, not x86 cpu kids) TI-994a http://en.wikipedia.org/w...s_Instruments_TI-99/4A start the rofling yeah that is a cassette tape, which was used to store/play mp3s in oldin times! It also was used to store data in a audio stream that soundin like a cat being tortured(similar to the fax noises but slower more drawn out!) I did not purchase my own a pc until ~2003 a poj HP laptop. I forget which one, for my own sanity. Today I typically run 3 open systems, 1 using guts from retail boxes, 1 P6N diamond MB just for folding, and 1 evga 790i MB from b-stock which did not survive the TZC. ( I shoulda had this thread on the monitor for the pic!)

Here is all my systems I used over the years, I don't remember the detailed specs of all them but I do know what models/cpu's/gpu's I had. 1. first computer I ever used was a TI99a 2. Then I had used an Amiga 500 for a while 3. Then a Macintosh Performa 405 4. I finally switched to PC and started on a pentium MMX 150mhz and 16MB Voodoo Banshee 5. Then a Cyrix M2 333mhz with a 32MB Geforce 2 GTS (I don't have pictures of these 2 systems) 6. Here is a picture of my AMD Duron 600mhz, and later upgraded to a Athlon Tbird 1Ghz, ran my 32MB GF2 GTS on it for a while and later changed it to a 128MB GF4 TI4200 7. Then I had a AMD Athlon XP 1700+ 1.47Ghz, ran my 128MB GF4 TI4200 and later changed to a 128MB ATI 9600 XT 8. Then I had a AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 2Ghz, I ran my 128MB ATI 9600 XT on it and later upgraded it to a 256MB BFG 6800 GT OC 9. Then I had an Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2Ghz that later got upgraded to a Athlon 64 X2 4200+2.2Ghz, I also ran my 256MB BFG 6800 GT AGP on it for a while and later upgraded it to a 320MB 8800 GTS PCI-E (Yes the motherboard I had at this time had slots for both AGP/PCI-E) 10. Then we have what my current system specs are in my signature

- Aug 2003, My first computer: Dell Inspirn 1100 laptop, Celeron 2GHz, Intel 845G chipset, 30GB ATA drive, 8x CD-DVD combo.
- Feb 2006, Second computer: Gateway s-5200S with Pentium D 920, rebuilt 3 months later with CM Centurion case and EVGA GeForce 7600GT, stepped up to 7900GT KO by Aug, RMA'd for 7950GT which I still have.
- Dec 2008, Third computer: current desktop, see sig, started out with 9800GT SC and stepped up to GTX260. Experimented with a TEC unit.
- Sept 2010, Fourth system upgrade already in progress, yesterday got a Toshiba Satellite L635, Intel 1.86GHz Pentium P6000 (Clarkdale, no HT or Turbo, but socket mPGA988 so I figure I can upgrade, if it was socket 1288, then its soddered on). Meant for 2D office and internet. Going to be the first segment of my fourth system, I plan to replace my 3rd system in about a year, or split it into two more segments.

My first computer was way back in 1996, it was a Toshiba Infinia with a 166Mhz Pentium 1, 16Mb of RAM, a 4Gb hard drive, and it was all black. Pretty cool for back then.

My first rig was.. An i7. Built in like March 09. Specs: Xclio A380(Not the plus, ended up severely modded.) ABS Tagan BZ1100W EVGA E758 i7 920 C0 Cooler Master V10 OCZ 1600 Gold WD 1 TB Caviar Green LiteOn 22X DVD burner EVGA Geforce GTX 285 Ended up painting the case black, and cutting the entire top out so that I could add 4x120mm blue LED fans there. Modded so that the case could lay on it's side as a sort of open test bench, cut 2x120mm fan holes in the floor to allow more airflow to GPU. Painted black. Stepped up the 285 to a 295 via EVGA Stepup.. Maybe got an extra fan or two here and there... Held that config for a long time.. Then switched out the OCZ RAM for some Dominator GT 2000Mhz C8(Lovely RAM, can run 1600 @ C6 easy), swapped out 920 C0 for a 930.. Bought a Cosmos S and moved everything over to it. Not many pics of that though. I'll look more extensively later today. And now, closing in on my current project. Water cooling. I'll only give a teaser here, since I don't have it all fully assembled yet, I'm waiting on some screws from EK and then I can finish it. It's not too clean because I've been benching the 8800GT you see there, nice little MSI one. GTX 295 isn't in that pic because I was busy putting the waterblock on.
