I had one with a little light on the end of it. To be honest, I never ended up needing it for my phone but I wore the light out as it was very handy. Sorry, my story didn't help you at all, did it...

    I highly recommend the following:

New Trent iDual-Port Pack IMP50D 5000mAh USB External Battery Pack

I own two of these battery packs (in addition to the IMP660) and I must say that these are the best external battery packs you can buy. Since you need a micro USB connector, I would recommend this as well:

GTMax Micro USB Data Hotsync & Charging Retractable Cable

I own this as well and find it to be an excellent cable, affordable, and works flawlessly.

Portable chargers are ok in an emergency but I found that its better to have a charger in your car, at work and home so you can keep the battery topped off.

Also depending on the phone take a look at a company called Seidio They are based here Houston and make extended cell Li-On batteries that fit inside the stock case.  I got one for both my wife and my droids and they added at least 4 hours of fun time between charges on heavy useage days.

    Thanks for input guys.

50 bucks is a bit too much plus carrying the cable... but those reviews are pretty great will look more into that company

unfornatley my phone is brand spanking new and i looked around  i may get about 5-10% better and  instead of good battery i will get poor made in china one. hopefully it will change in future

Root it and install a custom ROM. You'll see significant improvements in battery life and probably performance too. Carriers love to cram all their garbage applications onto phones that run/update often and consume resources and battery life. This combined with an extended battery can keep you from charging your phone for literally DAYS.

    this is what i own:
    http://www.choiix.com/Product.aspx?pid=16

advantages are that my htc desire recognizes it as AC power supply (fast charger) and it can fully charge battery with same speed as if i'm connected to power outlet

blacksapphire08Root it and install a custom ROM.
And void the warranty? No thanks. To the OP, for $50 bucks you're getting an external charger which can fully re-charge your phone at least 4-5 times.
