grr. installed 285.62 and now it's conflicting with my Titanium HD. Audio now randomly drops to near inaudible levels. nVidia really needs to cut the sh!t and allow us to PERMENANTLY disable the damn bitstream. Is there a petition we can sign or something; I'm really getting tired of this

I was able to get my "flaky" evga gtx 465 working relatively well, it has been for the last 2 days at least. Thanks for all the helpful information. I'm using my card connected to my TV in the living room, so disabling the hd audio wasn't really an option. This is what I've done: Disabled on-board audio Disabled on-board LAN (I'm pretty sure this wasn't necessary, I'm just not using it) Installed latest WHQL drivers (selected only Display Driver, PhysX, and the HD Audio driver) Once in windows, NVCP -> Manage 3D settings -> Power management: "Prefer maximum performance" So far that seems to be going pretty OK for me. I flashed a GTX 470SC bios to my 465, and have been doing a little overclocking tonight, so I'm pretty happy with a card, that I had previously given up on.

Beyond frustration. Had this card for less than two weeks, and what started on day 3 has now become everyday. When I boot from a complete shutdown, I get black screens. I hook up my 2nd monitor to the onboard video, check device manager and discover the system doesn't see my card. I shut down, reseat, and it's fixed...until I shutdown again. I can reboot and it will still work though. Last night I followed all the steps in the first post and everything went well with that...until I completely shutdown and started it up again to test it. Same thing. Any ideas???

Whew. Well it looks like it may have simply been a case of my bios needing updating. A couple of cold boots and it seems to be fixed. Crossing my fingers it stays fixed :)

I didn't seem to have a problem until recently, when I uninstalled my old drivers and installed the latest certified ones. My comp would freeze, and I'd get the "display driver has stopped responding" error. This has fixed the problem. Thanks so much

Just bought EVGA GTX 460 SC x2 One is second hand with no warranty but did work last time it was used about a year ago, the other is brand new and works brilliantly. Typically, the no-warranty one is the one that gives me problems. In my own rig, I get either a black screen or freeze a few seconds after the desktop loads (longest I've survived is around half a minute). In another, better rig it freezes on the Welcome screen. I've tried following the steps in OP's guide about four times in each PC with no luck. No onboard VGA so that can't be the issue. The only thing I've found slightly increases 'performance' was by downloading the oldest driver I could find (250.xx?) which then helped me last for 30 secs. I don't know how the hardware could have screwed itself while in storage either. The most frustrating part, if it's not a hardware issue, is that my motherboard is nForce so you'd think they'd get along really well. At least I have one functional card for now.. I'm convinced there's a fix for the other one, somehow. Would be interesting to see model numbers of those who are experiencing these issues.

I have tried the things in the looong thread but still have an issue. Display driver stopped responding and has recovered display driver nvidia windows kernel mode driver, version 306.02 stopped responding and has successfully recovered Now the one thing i have done different is that I am using my computer with the specs below through HDMI out of card to my 55 in led tv/monitor. It is quite frustrating to have the momentary lock and reinit of the drivers. Is there anything that will actually help or even fix this issue besides disabling the hd audio, I have attempted swapping the cards with and without sli enabled. Phys-x assigned to secondary card and assigned to cpu or even letting nvidia select best place.

Hi, I guess I have the same problem with my evga GTX 460 768mb: Sometimes my screen stays black after the Windows 7 64bit startup logo. I can hear the login-jngle, and when i press the powerbutton i can hear the goodbye-tunes. So the OS must be operational in the backround. Other than that i get random freezes and lock-ups when trying to come out of standby. I tried deactivating the hd-audio-drivers as mentioned in the 1st post and got rid of the 4x nvidia-sound devices. Unfortunately the problem prevails. I tried reinstalling Windows like 20 times already, using a clean install for various nvidia-drivers including the latest 306.97 and the oldest 275.33. My installation procedure was 1) Win 2) latest AsRock-Drivers 3) nvidia drivers 4) disable troublesome HD-device and do some testing I still get black screens and I'm pretty clueless right now. I'm also not sure about the steps mentioned in the sticky which come right after deactivating the HD-drivers, something about cleaning the registry. Honestly I can't comprehend what this is all about. Please help me with this problem. Greets! PS: My system - xeon 1230v2 - AsRock H77 Pro4/MVP - 2x 4gb Corsair Vengeance LP - evga GTX460 768mb - BeQuiet E9 480W - Samsung 830 SSD (all parts are only days old, the Motherboard and Ram has already been replaced by RMA due to this problem)

Guys, please help.. before the tenth formatting, I disabled the hd audio from bios, and I did a fresh installation of windows, installing only the beta nvidia driver ( 310.33 ) for my gtx 470 without hd audio - 3d vision drivers, with the custom installation. But the problem persists and it made me crazy. What else can I do? I tried to follow the guide, I tried everything but it did not do anything. I should change my gpu? I've never had a problem like this before, at the software level and unsolvable. I have not formatted the pc for about 2 years, and after the first formatting here is this (Word edited out for foul language) problem. My configuration is: Corsair 850W Asus P5N-D nForce 750i Intel Q6700 4GB kingston ddr2 Zotac AMP GTX 470 Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

@ gianky This forum is dead! evga has abandoned this place. Don`t rely on help here. Also this guide didn't help me with my problem. It was a false track. Overall I'm disappointed with evga about the way they handle this problem. Some advice for you: 1) have you changed your system lately with new hardware? The way you describe your problem you didn't. 2) try different drivers, preferably certificated ones. 3) don`t waste more time and check your card in another system. 4) my solution: the problems only occured with the pcie 3.0-slot. Switching to the pcie 2.0-slot solved all issues.

The issues I had apparently turned out to be the Creative Sound Blaster software. Do you have a soundcard at all? I got so fed up with dealing with it, I just pulled the stupid card and tossed it (XtremeGamer card). Had no issues related to audio ever since.

I had the black screen problem months ago installing the 310.70 driver. Since then, I completely gave up updating my Nvidia drivers because that **** scared the hell out of me. It's really frustrating, but imo it was the safer option because I don't have extensive knowledge to deal with these technical problems. You guys can laugh at me now, but I'm using the 306.97 driver for my GTX's 560 Ti on Sli and the system is running fine since then.

Here is the procedure I used to permanently prevent Windows 7 from installing NVIDIA HD Audio drivers (will probably work for Windows 8 also). Start > Control Panel > System > Device Manager Locate NVIDIA HD Audio devices, right-click and select Properties. Select the Details tab and from the drop-down box select Hardware IDs (should look the same or similar to this: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10DE&DEV_0016&SUBSYS_10DE0101) If there are two hardware id's, you only need the shorter one. Right-click the ID and select Copy. Start > type in the Run box: gpedit.msc Navigate to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Device Installation Restrictions. Double-click or right-click and select Edit the following entry: Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs. Select the radio button Enabled. Tick the checkbox on the bottom-left for "Also apply to matching devices that are already installed". Click the "Show" button on bottom-left and double click your mouse in the top blank line until you see a flashing text entry cursor. Right-click and paste the hardware ID you copied earlier. Click OK twice to exit the group policy setting, then close the group policy editor. Start > Control Panel > System > Device Manager If you had drivers installed for the NVIDIA HD Audio, you will see that Windows will uninstall them within a minute or so, if it has not already done so. The HD Audio will be moved to "Other devices" and be renamed to "Audio device on high definition audio bus". You may now right-click each instance of this device and select "disable". Note that if you upgrade your video card you will need to repeat the process for the new hardware IDs. Enjoy!

Just wanted to say I NEVER had to do this when I owned GTX460 and GTX580's. As long as I didn't check off HD audio driver it was never installed nor did windows do it via detect new hardware. Now that I switched over to a 780Ti windows likes to install it even though I never selected it during driver set up. I tried uninstalling them but every time I reboot windows installs them back. However, no problems despite this.
