Just got an RMA'd z87 and hooked everything up including my 2 GTX 760SC ACX cards. Lane 1 is only showing 8X, Lane 4 is showing 16X. Is this right? I thought lanes 1-2 and 4 were 16X lanes. I haven't noticed any issues but want to make sure i'm running as good as possible. And TBH I never took notice if the old motherboard read the same thing.

MyRig Intel i7-10700k, EVGA Z490 MoBo, 32GB Corsair Vengeance PRO DDR4 3200mhz ram, EVGA 3080 FTW3 Ultra, EVGA 850-G2 PSU, corsair 750d case.

That is the Model of your EVGA Z87 Motherboard?
What other PCIe Cards do you have installed?

Oh sorry. I have a Z87 Classified. And the 2 760's are the only PCI-e cards I'm running

If I am not wrong; slot 1 should come as x16 if nothing is installed on slot 2. You tried switching other slots off using the switches on motherboard?

    PCI-E x16/x8 Slots
These PCI-E slots are reserved for Graphics Cards and PCI-E x1, x4, x8 and x16 devices.
The Z87 Classified and FTW motherboards support multiple Graphics Card technologies such as SLI ® or CrossFire.
When installing a PCI-E Graphics Card, be sure the retention clip snaps and locks the card into place.
If the card is not seated properly, it could cause a short across the pins.
Secure the card’s metal bracket to the chassis back panel with the screw used to hold the blank cover.

    PCI-E Lane Distribution
    Z87 Classified: 1x16, 2x16, 3x8 or 4x8
    Use 1 and 2 or 2 and 4 or 1 and 4.

    visual guide

Install One Card in Slot 1 and Check in the Bios to see what it shows.
Then install the Second Card and see what the Bios Shows.
With 2 Cards you will see each card at X16 in Slots 1 2 and 4.

Last make sure you also set the Bios to X16 and Gen3

Thanks for the info. I will check this tonight when I get home. Sorry I didn't respond last night. I fell asleep on the couch.

If anything is in any slot, other than lane 1, lane 1 will run x8.

If slot 2 and 4 are used, they will both read x16, but it is impossible for them to actually run at x16, because the cpu doesn't have that many lanes.

The cpu only has 16 lanes total. All 16 go to lane 1 when it is a single card.

8 lanes are diverted to a plx chip which can send out 32 additional, essentially fake, lanes. Remember that, because when 3 cards are installed into the plan slots, all 32 lanes are only going back to 8 lanes in the cpu. The plan just mimics the details of those 8 lanes and sends it to all of the card simultaneously. Instead of extra added speed, you are actually adding a minor amount of latency.

So it's normal for lane 1 to show 8x and lane 4 to show 16x when running 2 cards in SLI? Like I stated in my original post. I haven't noticed any performance loss compared to my original Z87 classy. I just wanted to make sure I didn't have another faulty board

Yep, it is absolutely normal. There is nothing wrong with the lanes running St those speeds.
