Read around a bit, and apparently people are saying that PCI devices can fit into PCI-X slots because of backward compatibility. My Tyan S2881 server mobo has nothing but 2 x PCI-X slots, and I have a feeling the onboard video is not gonna go too far for me.

Was looking at this card on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16814187041

Problem is, any guarantees it will work with my mobo? I am gonna ask the same question tomorrow when Tyan's live chat goes online.

You need an adapter in order to put a PCI card in a PCI-E slot. Otherwise it will not fit. The slots are off set slightly.

Case - Phanteks Enthoo Evolv X
    Mobo - EVGA X570 FTW
    CPU - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
    RAM - 32GB Trident Z Royal 3600MHz 14-14-14-34
GPU - EVGA RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming
    PSU - Seasonic Prime TX-1000

Corrected your typo. By any chance, what kind of adapter would I need to get? I'm gonna ask Google for now, lol

looking at a board with both types side by side, they are identical with the exception of pci's divider/slot. Pci-x, just has a longer slot with it's divider where standard pci ends (inboard)... Newegg sells a bunch of cards that works in both types, so apparently a pci video card will work in a pci-x slot. (No adapter required). Evidently there are or were video cards with a pci-x interface as well, (double the bandwidth compared to pci)...

Gigabyte Z590 Vision G Mobo, intel i3 10105 CPU, 32GB GSkill Ripjaws DDR4 3200 RAM, EVGA GTX 750ti FTW Video Card, EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 power supply, Fractal Design Focus G (White) case, Cooler Master Hyper212 RGB Black CPU cooler. 2 Dell LED Monitors (20" & 24"), SK Hynix Gold 1TB SATA SSD (OS Drive), 6 WD HDDs 13TB total (Storage).
Rig is a partial update on the old Gigabyte P43/Q6600 OC rig... The WD HDD's, (13TB, total), Blu-ray & DVD burners,  GTX750ti FTW & Supernova 850 G2 psu, migrated from old setup... Will get an 11700K, and an RTX 3060 12GB Black card, when I'm ready to OC... Windows 11 Pro set for performance, and it runs at 4.2Ghz...

I don't see any PCI-X cards on sale right now, at least not in my "affordable" range lol. I guess I'll just have to take your word for it and get a PCI card to try this out.

PCI is the older one, you can put these cards into PCI-X slots directly.
PCI-E is what most video cards are, and all of EVGA's new vid cards use this format.
PCI-X is the server version for huuuuuge data transfer rates and such and can take PCI cards but these cards cannot fit in PCI slots.
so you could get an adapter
    http://www.provantage.com/startech-pcix1pex4~7STR91X7.htm
which is not cheap because it has to take a fast and very high speed data line (PCI-E) and turn it into a slow but high bandwidth line (PCI-X)
in the end, its easier to get a PCI-X video card or a PCI vid card which will never be very powerful and your onboard vid might be better.

there are rumors of cheaper PCI-E adapters but i couldnt find them. didnt spend too long looking though.

On my other rig, a Z8PE-D12X, I have a PCI firewire card installed in one of the PCI-X slots. It's been a while since I researched it but, as long as the "keying" of the PCI card matches the PCI-X slot, you should be fine. See:

Sweet, good to know. Plus I'm pretty sure any decent PCI video cards would beat that onboard ATI Rage graphics from my server mobo. Especially stuff like Geforce 8400 etc.
