Going on a year now I've been hunting down this hardware issue.
Reproduction case: Gaming, no other programs running but pc monitoring software. Regardless of GPU/RAM usage at seemingly random times my pc will freeze, audio will become distorted, and it shuts down. Monitor and keyboard turn off, and it takes many hard resets to get it to power back on. No crash logs that I can find. There's an internal light on the motherboard that turns yellow.
The only thing I *haven't* done is replace my motherboard.
- Reseated RAM, reproduced problems using both sticks alone.
- Updated drivers for hardware
- Updated BIOS version
- Installed monitoring software to find if something is overheating (safe temp for my GPU says 81c, crash happens at 74c)
- Ran sfc to verify windows files
- RMA'd video card
- Upgraded PSU from 800W to 1000W
Here are my system specs:
- AMD Ryzen 7 3900X CPU
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER GPU
- ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PLUS Motherboard
- 2x G.Skill F4-300C16-16GTZNC DDR4 (16gb RAM)
- Seasonic Focus GX-1000 PSU
- Acer X34P (34" ultrawide monitor, no other displays)
- Games installed on either a Samsung SDD 970 EVO Plus 500gb or on a ST2000DM008-2FR102 hard drive, same behavior
Drivers are up to date, DirectX is at version 12, G-SYNC is on and enabled in game. It happens on the title screens of games in fullscreen. I've tried underclocking my system but there's no change. I'm running out of things to try, any help would be greatly appreciated.
