Hello everyone. For three days now, I have been trying to follow Tweaked's post on Overclocking with this setup. So far, I have achieved %*(%*& results. No stability anywhere. Had to set everything back to defaults. I have no clue wth im doing wrong. Any suggestions would be great.
Im using the following:
IC2Q Q6600 rG0 VID 1.325
780i SLI - 132-CK-NF78
OCZ PC2-6400 800MHZ Sli-Ready ram - 8gb
Followed everything to par and got instant blue screed and reboots when attempting to test, within a matter of seconds.

I dunno what OC you were shooting for, but 3.0GHz (or even 3.4GHz) should be a walk in the park.
    Disable all Spead Spectrums
    FSB to 1333MHz for 3.0GHz
    Memory Clock Mode to  Unlinked
Enable P1 & P2 (although Auto should work ok too)
    CPU Thermal Control to TM1 & TM2
Intel specs the VID Voltage Range can be as high as 1.5v..You have the same VID as mine (I need 1.58v at 3.6GHz)..I would bang the CPU Core Voltage right up to the 1.5v max VID spec for now, you can lower it later until it loses stablity, then bump it up a notch or two..I'd leave the FSB voltage on Auto for now to see how/if it works, then lock it in/adjust it manually later..Same with the MCP but I don't think you'll need it high as the 1.5v that Auto has set it to..Tj Max is 80C for a B3 and 90C for a G0, set your temp monitoring program (Real Temp or whatever) accordingly.

Ok, my current voltages are as follows:
    CPU 1.45v         CPU-Z shows 1.448v
    FSB 1.30v
    SPP 1.4v
    MCP 1.525v
    HT 1.25v
This got me to 3.4 and passed some Prime95 blend with no errors. Does this seem high? The voltage setting in the bios shows like 1.5+(red) but the current value is still green at 1.45 and CPU-Z shows 1.448v. How long should I test this? any specific prime 95 test I should be doing, or is the blend good enough? I was also thinking about testing GTL lanes after I get a stable clock to drop fsb voltage some more. Is this good to do? Or should I even bother with it? Also, I dont see any P1 or P2 setting in my bios. I may not be looking in the right place, but I couldnt find it. I got the thermal controls set the way you said though.

That's all decent..Prime95 blend for 10 hours is good enough imo..I'd leave the GTLVREF Lanes on Auto as long as it's all working ok and I wouldn't lower the FSB voltage either, 1.3 is good..Oh yeah, no P's in your BIOS..What are your core temps when running Prime95 anyway, they ok or getting real close to 90C ?..MCP voltage may not need to be that high though.

    Ok
I managed to get 3.2 fairly stable. 9 multiplier. 1422 FSB. 1.48125vid. I kinda got freaked out with the other one because of all the red I was seeing in the bios. This keeps everything green. Its my first time, and I dont really know how high you can safely take it into the red without frying the chip. @ 1.45v when I was trying 3.4, in the bios, shows 1.45 current as green, but as soon as you bump it up just high enough for it to hit 1.46v current value, it turns red. Thats high enough in my VID list that I cant see anymore of the green values anymore. Temps for this 3.2 are 28*c no load and 61*c full load. Any advice on safe voltage ranges for 3.4 or 3.6 would be nice. using the 1.5 vid to start with those 2 3.6 wont even pass post, and 3.4 is extremely unstable, so no choice but to go in the red on the VID to try for it. 3.38 wasnt even stable @ 1.5v VID.
    Current values are as follows:
    CPU 1.48125v
    FSB 1.30v
    SPP 1.4v
    MCP 1.5v
    HT 1.2v

Load temp is very good..VCore is the main thing you'll need..Don't worry about red too much when it comes to overclocking, it's just a color..It means you're setting the parameter higher than what's considered normal/safe..Overclocking isn't normal/safe/recommended, just ask Intel..Right..To run at 3.4GHz I need a VCore of 1.51250 (that's 2 steps into the red in my BIOS) to complete 20 passes of IBT..But, my board has VDroop Control which is set to [Without VDroop], your board does not have that option and depending on how much VDoop your board has, you'll need a higher VCore to compensate for the Droop under load..How much more ?..Who knows, but you need more..I would incrementally increase the VCore untill you can run 20 passes of IBT while at the same time keeping the cores load temps below Tj Max..Hitting Tj max won't hurt a thing, the CPU is designed by Intel to be safe up to 90C for the G0 but of course cooler is better and I wouldn't/don't care if I get 5C near to it, but only while extreme load testing..Run IBT, if you make 20 passes, you're pretty much good to go..http://majorgeeks.com/IntelBurnTest_d5987.html

    Hola Bob!
I read the pencil mod thread concerning the vDroop deal. I went ahead and tried this method, considering I got my board 2 years ago and have no warranty on it anyhow. It helped considerably. The 3.2ghz I tried with 1422fsb x9.
CPU Core: 1.39375v  (1.48125v on my above post^)
    via CPU-Z: 1.376v
    CPU FSB: 1.3v
    Memory: 2.1v
    nForce SPP: 1.4v
    nForce MCP: (Auto) 1.500v
HT nForce SPP <-> MCP (Auto) 1.20v
p95-> Idle: 28*c      Load: 56-58*c      IBT: 78*c maximum on the max stress test.
I read it was best when using IBT, to stop any uneeded processes via task manager, so I ran it via Safe Mode. This was the lowest voltage I could make 2 good test passes on Prime 95, started IBT. I passed 20 loops at the Standard Stress Level. I also tried it on Max stress level. With 8gb of ram, on max, I waited, waited, waited, waited, waited, waited, waited, waited, and waited more, for some Linpack output. Nothing. It never froze, no BSOD, no insta reboots, but no output either. How long is it supposed to take to pass a single loop of Linkpack on max with that much memory?
I also have not tried any of the higher clock again yet. I wanted to ask how voltages panned out vs CPU longevity. My CPU is 2yrs old now. Just curious if I got it up in the 1.4v ranges or even 1.5v ranges, how that would affect the rest of its lifespan, before I try it anymore. Thanks!
    ~Wes
PS: is there any source for like some sort of rack I could replace my 250mm side case fan with maybe like 4 smaller fans? there is only mounting holes for a big one, and the blades on the one that came with it tick tick tick on the plexiglass. I have to leave my door off or it gets annoying.

If you can run the Standard Stress Level, that's more than good enough..I never tried running IBT in Safe Mode, don't know if it's even a good idea to..It takes a little over a minute to complete a pass here on Max..According to Intel, the Max VID is 1.5v, so that's what it could possibly be stock out of the box on some (really lame) chips, so I wouldn't worry at all about putting 1.5v to it if necessary..It's impossible to say how it will affect the lifespan, there's tons of articles, ideas and speculation about that..I been running over 1.5v for a couple years with no problems and no sign of degradation..Don't know about a "rack" for the fans, if the blades are hitting, maybe you can improvise something to shim it away from the plexiglass a little..Q6600 processor specs: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=29765

    sry to grave dig.

for a rack, you could make one out of plexiglass. all you really need is a drill and a saw/dremel (hack saw with carbide cable works well). oc'ing with 4gb of ram is hard so 8 mus be harder, if you run into stability issues dont forget that raising the fsb voltage can help.

also, idk how common this is but, IBT gave me trouble (made gfx drivers crash) so i use LinX instead, same effect far as i can tell.
