I want to plasti dip my Mustang, but the problem is, you can't buy plasti dip in California by the gallon. I'm not going to go buy 40 rattle cans and do it that way, it looks OK, but not the best. Anyone know any alternatives? Or maybe someone would let me order it and have it shipped to them out of state, and I could come pick it up *wink wink*.

This is what I would like to get.

[Edit]: I did do my doors with rattle cans but like I said, they didn't turn out perfect, and I will do it with rattle cans if I have to, but I would REALLY rather not.

I personally don't get the fad myself. I use it for better grip on my drumsticks but to each his own. I live in so Cal and Home depot also carries the bigger cans (not the rattle cans) of it. Have you tried there? The usually have it in the caged section where the spray paint is but behind the rattle cans.

For me it's cost effectiveness. I don't have 3,000 to redo the paint on my car right, so I'm just going to make it look half decent in the short term with plasti dip.

I'll check my Home Depot for sure. That's where I bought my rattle cans from when I did the doors and I asked, and they said that's all they had but, who knows. Maybe they started carrying it in the last year or so.

I have seen vehicles completely sprayed from shops that do the truck bed liner sprays... they'll prep up the entire vehicle in that stuff.  Some of the cars I've seen looked pretty bad ass , like almost a "Bat-mobile" look to them ...

Have you thought about a vehicle wrap? They do these for cars all the time, mostly for advertisements and logo kind of things. I have seen these also used to change the exterior color of the vehicle. Is no where near $3,000 to do, especially in a single color. There should be many places in SoCal to get this done. It is a plastic film over the car, either partially or totally. It will also protect the paint and car from chips and scratches as it covers the exterior. We did logos, as they ran about $500 per car, but just a partial one. We did one a few years back that covered the entire car, as it ran around $850, although this was not in the land of price appreciation that SoCal is. Check into that.

It looks good, you don't have to wax your car, its easier and cheaper to redo if you get a scratch.

Do not do a wrap, especially if its the sticker ones hehehehe.
To do dip a mustang yourself its under 450-500 bucks.
Here is mine I could had made it glossy with a dip gloss after the dip but I loved the flat grey dark grey that looks almost black, and then I decided to have the Stripes put on in a lighter dark grey.

My God? That is plasti dip? I had no idea it could look that cool. I just see some guys putting it on their jeep rims and it looks so so. Hmmm... lot of good points about touch up and not waxing...

Yup that's plasti dipped, the whole thing minus my rims of course, you can do a ton with it, not to mention its cheaper/faster to fix a scuff or anything. Really a great cheap solution over a top of the line or even a cheap body shop paint job. Will probably cost you as much to get an entire car dipped as it would be to get a body shop to paint a whole door with paint... If you have the stuff to do it you can even paint your hardware gpu shrouds and what not and not void your warranty stuff will peel off with some effort of course, a car a lot of effort....

I thought about doing 3m vynil wrap, but my paint is so bad it would look horrible. It's all cracked and split, I know with plasti dip will fill it in and come out nice. So yea.

Besides, my doors are already dipped black. I really like how much light the black absorbes, it makes the car almost invisible to spot lights from police cars in the dead of night.

Just be sure to sand it good, and get all the dust off before you do it. Do not sand past the first layer of paint, you can go into the primer a little if you wish but you need to leave enough and have it done good enough so the plasti has something to hold onto. Do not wrap your car, its junk it fades, and when it comes time to take it off, its like dealing with peeling off old stickers...

I have only seen it in black, white and safety yellow.... Can it be painted or do you mix it with colors? I am almost thinking about doing a guitar with that.

I'm confused what you mean. It comes in a lot of different colors. I'll be painting my insight purple with plasti dip someday as well.

Thanks for the advice with the sanding. I'll be dismantling the car for the most part when I do spray it. The hood, front bumper, fenders, rear hatch and rear bumper will be coming off. I have a shed I can paint the parts in, so wind won't be an issue. I'm going to have to pick a really calm morning to dip the roof and quarter panels as the shed isn't big enough to put the car in. The hatch will be a bear to do, as it's red so I'll have to do a color change. I may source a black hatch/doors before I do this. I don't like that my doors were originally white and I had to color change them.

It does come in a ton of different colors, just depends on the brand, and the delivery method. But they have all colors actually its just new and some vendors don't have a wide selection yet. Even seen a nice fiery  orange and one red that looked good, they put the glaze coat on to make it look shiny. Agent and in my photo you have now seen two different shades of grey hehehehe.

That is bad arse! I have a new respect for plasti dip. I did a search and found a few other colors. It seems like some companies are price gouging because of the new interest which is a shame. To get the stripes are you doing a 1 color base and then masking off and going over it with another color?

Pics do not do justice. Looks incredibly good and I am really looking into getting this for my SUV as well. I'd seen a friend of mine doing his car completely vinyl dip from front to back so it will cover the fire red paint he has in his car and to be honest is worth the money. It is a great investment if you don't live in a snowy state, but even then still worth the money. Id  always been a fan of dual paint in a car, from black on top, the rest in grey, or red, white, etc. Nice work Donta

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

For stripes you put down your main color let that set, then you do like a stencil and place it down, then paint it on.

Just a google search will show you what it looks like and the options available when it comes to plasti dip. And if you ever wanna change you simply peel it off...

Looks interesting. If you use a good company that does the wrap, they fade less, been doing this with company vehicles for 15 years. I like this for my personal cars. Seems like these folks are in fair weather climates. Would this work in the Midwest?

Plasti will work anywhere Grey_Beard, if and when you decide to take it off comes off a lot easier than a wrap. If you want it you want to be really sure it holds you sand the car first, if you want to be able to swap it out because of ODD then you just leave your paint job alone, if you have cracks from clear coat peeling and what not, you need to have it sanded so its all even.

Thanks. My Infiniti's paint is showing wear, even though I have had a clear bra since day one. Infiniti's are known for fragile paint. I will consider this. I would sand it down first though, as it has many chips where I tried to repair with those freakin" little paint things they have for reprinting chips, as they really do not work that well. Looks like this process will give it a nice new look that will last. I will read up more in this. I would have never considered this unless you guys had this thread.

A LOT of people hate on Plasti-dip due to ignorance. Once I explain to them the awesome advantages of it, most people change their tune, and if not, that's totally fine, but at least they now know the option it out there. I'm glad you went and educated yourself. I have never sprayed a sanded surface, so I don't know if you will be able to just peel it off like you can on a car that has good clear coat. I don't think it will be a problem, but who knows.

I was not familiar with plasti-dip to be honest at least not as far as painting a whole car. I've seen new cars that people have give the matte black job and all I could think is why would you ruin the paint on a new car? I had no idea it just peeled off like that... now i'm getting ideas lol.

Yup as long as your clearcoat is not cracking/chipping and peeling off, you dont have to sand it. just put it on until you get an itch to put on something else or just have your regular paint job, think of it as an extra protective coating on your car.

Yea I thought that was dipped when I seen it in Rush's thread jus now..looks great Donta.  Im hearing that you can use the glossifier without pearls or anything and layer it up to act as paint protection / clear bra too.

Yep, a BMW came into the shop yesterday with what I suspect was the glossifier, it felt like it, but I didn't see the customer so I didn't get a chance to ask. It was only on 1/4 of the hood and the front bumper.
