Hi,
I'm new to this forum and new owner of the EVGA-NU-AUDIO.
I would like to replace the Line Out - ADI AD8056 Op-Amp. I have some Op-Amps from my old sound card.
Do you know if the OPA637AU or the OPA637SM Op-Amp will work properly on the EVGA-NU-AUDIO Line Out?
Thanks,
Lior

Hi LiorDrZ,

The OPA637 is a single op-amp, so it would not be compatible with the NU Audio Card, which requires a dual op-amp.

Hi Lee,
Thanks for the response. Both OPA637AU & OPA637SM are dual Op-Amps. i downloaded the pictures from guru3d website i have the same ones from my retired 10 Years old Auzentech X-fi Forte 7.1.  I just wanted to know if i can use them safely in terms of voltage to replace the ADI AD8056 Op-Amp.
Thanks,
Lior

Sorry, but these are single op-amps.  There is only one channel on both, so they will not match the standard dual op-amp layout.  Although the voltage range seems to be OK, They would not be compatible with the NU Audio card.  See here:

Edit to correct the statement about the voltage.  A single op-amp wouldn't cross into -V.  The min is at 9V (+/-4.5V for the OPA637), which is too high.

Any suggestions beside the  Burson V5i-d that might be good to replace the ADI AD8056. i miss the punch and clarity of the OPA637SM...

Give me a day or two to check with our friends at Audio Note.  We don't yet have a certified list yet, but I do know that a few have been tested.

So, here are some recommendations from our Audio Note guy (admittedly, some paraphrasing as he's a colorful guy) based on your interest:

For reference, this is how he describes the stock AD8056:  "The AD8056 is natural, and has natural dynamic contrast and flow."

"In DIP packages, I can recommend the following:
  • LT1364 - The LT1364 has a special sound of its own, well worth a try.
  • OPA2228 - The OPA2228 is kind of a high-end pro-audio sound. It's warm, but snappy, with punchy bass slam.
  • AD826 - The AD826, hmm, some guys like it, but not my fave.
  • LME49720 - For boring-style clarity; it colours everything grey. It's the accountant's op-amp, in more ways than one.
  • Some of the NJR made op-amps measure good, but sound like a cheap firewater Tequila vs an Anejo, but some people like them, such as the NJM4560.
  • If we venture into the world of SOICs mounted on adapters the world gets a bit more interesting.  For example:  AD8397."

So, there you go.  However, he did request that you do a review once you decide on what you would like to try and have a chance to test it.

Swapped the AD8397 with  OPA2228 . First impression too warm for my taste. the AD8397 is more open and clear but the OPA2228 have more bass. i will leave it for a week and continue testing it.

Thanks for the updates and the pictures.  I'll be interested to see your feedback on the 2228 after you give it a little time.

Re: Op-Amps Question 2019/07/30 00:04:05 (permalink)
Hello all,
Sorry it took some time to report. kids on vacation...
During the past month I manged to test 2 Op-Amps. I tested the AD8397 and the OPA2228. here are my own impression on those two.
Both are great upgrade compared to the stock one, But there some differences between the two due to my personal taste.
The EVGA-NU-AUDIO sound is on the warmer side refining the edges of the digital sound which is good. but since my personal taste in Audio is more on the brighter side and i like more faster response from my speakers. (My main Hi-Fi system is SIMAUDIO MOON Evolution 700i with Focal SOPRA N°3 Speakers).
So i was looking for an Op-Amp that will not exaggerate with the warm sound and will give more punch and clarity.
AD8397
The sound is warm but open and vivid. the clarity is great and i really enjoyed using this Op-Amp. it's very musical and it's more open compared to the stock one. the vocals are great crisp and sound overall is forward. The bass is tight and well controlled. My only downside is that i really wanted bit more punch and a bit more power.
Overall this Op-Amp is great for music and for gaming giving open warm sound with very good vocal and bass.

OPA2228
This Op-Amp was installed on my sound card the longest time. the sound characteristic of this Op-Amp in on the warm side it's warmer than the AD8397 and it has more power. the bass is big very big... and for my personal taste it was too big. I felt that the bass is not focused the Mid-Bass has a bit more bass then it should for my personal taste. I tried to tone down the bass using the EQ and i changed the cables from the sound card to my desktop speakers to Neotech NEI-1001 Silver interconnect cable. that helped a bit but i felt that i have to play with the EQ on some tracks to lower the mid bass more than i used to. overall it's a great upgrade compared to the stock one. it's bolder stronger with very good punch and very deep bass. other may find this Op-Amp as the best. for me, the crisp sound of the AD8397 gave him the edge over the OPA2228.

Now i installed the LT1364. my first impression is it has more "Dark" sound very laid back and "lazy" for my taste. i will give this Op-Amp more time.

Next will be the Burson V5i-d. (Hope it will arrive next week)
Overall non of the Op-Amps that i tested have the same characteristic of the OPA637SM  that i used before nor the brute force and clarity. the OPA2228 was close in terms of power but the OPA637SM was better for my taste.
If you have any other recommendations i will be glad to hear.
Thanks,
Lior

Would the Burson V6 fit? Seems others suggested it would not fit with the RGB case in place.

The Burson V6 are over an inch long (29mm).  The metal shroud would need to be modded, or you would need to remove the shroud to use them.

Not with the shield on. I run two V6 vivids in mine and absolutely LOVE them. I had the V6 Vivids in my old ZXR as well. This card with the vivids sounds absolutely incredible through my HD58x Jubilee's and my Fidelio X2's.

Re: Op-Amps Question 2019/11/10 05:15:25 (permalink)

are the listet OP-AMPS in post#10:
LT1364 - The LT1364 has a special sound of its own, well worth a try.
OPA2228 - The OPA2228 is kind of a high-end pro-audio sound. It's warm, but snappy, with punchy bass slam.
AD826 - The AD826, hmm, some guys like it, but not my fave.
LME49720 - For boring-style clarity; it colours everything grey. It's the accountant's op-amp, in more ways than one.

are usable in the op-amp socket (U564) for headphone to replace OPA275 ?

So i have an look into the manual:
https://www.evga.com/supp...les/712-P1-AN01-KR.pdf
Socket voltage specification:
• U613: +5V, -5V symmetrical, three stage regulated
•U564: +14.5V, -14.5V symmetrical, two stage regulatedRemember,
the AD8056 op-amp will be damaged or destroyed if it is placed in the U564 socket!

hint:
the AD8056 is the stock op-amp in socket U613 for line-out
the OPA275 is the stock op-amp in socket U564 for headphone

The OPA2228 looks interesting and i have look into datasheet:
http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/opa2227.pdf
Supplyvoltage,Vs = (V+) - (V-)36V

It looks like i can use it in socket U564 too. Do you agree ?

Also i look into datasheet of LM4562NA from my old Asus Essence STX:
http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lm4562.pdf
PowerSupplyVoltageRange:±2.5V to ± 17V

It looks like i can use it in socket U564 too. Do you agree ?

Edit: I see in datasheet that the OP275:
 Input Voltage Range VCM –10.5 +10.5 V

and the OPA2228:
Signal input terminals
Voltage (V–) – 0.7 (V+) +0.7 V

INPUT VOLTAGE RANGE
VCM Common-Mode Voltage Range (V–)+2 (V+)–2 (V–)+2 (V+)–2 V

is this difference in input voltage a problem to use the OPA2228 instead of OPA275 in headphone area?
/Edit

My wish and proposal to EVGA: To create an (excel)-chart where users can see, which OP-amp (maybe up to 10) is usable in which socket (U564/U613).

What do you think ? Is this possible for you to create ? Please remember christmas is coming soon ;-).

Thanks !

Ideally, I'd like to put together an FAQ with this information.  Alas, it takes both my time and the time of our friends at Audio Note, who have more experience than I do with these.

Let me send your questions over to them to check on this.

Anybody knows if the Line Out - ADI AD8056 Op-Amp can be replaced with TLE2082?

Thank you.
