Okay here's a weird one. Sitting in my gaming chair causes my PC to lock up.

Okay since I got my Secret Lab, I get lots of static "ticks" (pops?) coming through the sound system. It happens when I adjust my posture, when I move my mouse or slide my keyboard tray in and out.  Imagine the static sound when you zap yourself but coming through a 5.1 sound system.

My setup is that everything runs through my UPS which is OLD now.   My chair sits on a plastic carpet protector, the type you get from Costco.  My desk is a large old one made out of chipboard/plywood.   The plastic carpet protector does not connect to the wood of the desk at all.

The other day I had a really bad one.  I sat in my chair and gave off a static spark into the chair which caused my whole PC to lockup and I had to reboot.   Is it possible for a human static charge to go from chair to carpet protector, to carpet, to desk, to PC wiring?

It's bizarre and I've never experienced this in 30 years of gaming. Any thoughts?

That's really weird. I had those pops where I use to live. I think it was because the computer was close to the kitchen.

it's completely possible for the fabric on the chair to create static issues ...
Also may be your house is really dry inside ? ... you need a relative humidity level between 30 - 50 % to damp down on static electricity problems

It seems pretty strange that this is happening. I remember I used to have a wireless headset that will also pop I think this was due to interference from my router.

Using a Humidifier would help around the house.  Some fabric softener or dryer sheets with the laundry would help keep a static charge from building up so easily.

It's funny you mention the humidifier.  My wife just got out one that was given to us as a gift a couple years back that we never used.  It's like that movie signs,  the universe is telling us something. Er okay maybe not.

Will see if the humidifier helps.

Would you say is worth paying extra for a "gaming" chair vs a regular office IKEA chair? I've never tested any gaming chairs myself

I have a Secret Lab medium size.  I have massive buyers remorse with it.  It's as hard as rock and the front of the seat digs into the nerves in your hamstrings just behind the knee.

We had a big discussion on this in another thread, most gamers who've tried both recommend office chairs over so called "gaming" ones.

You'd be surprised by how much electrical equipment can interfere with one another.

Is it possible to create a ground, or earth to a wooden desk or the plastic carpet protector?  I can physically move the keyboard shelf in and out and cause the popping sounds.
