Here's something so ludicrous it would be hilarious if it wasn't true. This happened yesterday about 5:30am.
 
Moussa Diarra, 57, a NYC parking garage attendant, observed a man looking into cars on the second floor of the West 31st Street garage in Manhattan where Diarra worked. Diarra suspected the man was stealing, so he brought him outside and questioned him about what was inside his bag. The thief pulled a gun on Diarra, and in the ensuing struggle Diarra was shot in the stomach and grazed in the ear by another shot (lucky he wasn't shot in the head). Diarra attempted to grab the firearm away from the thief in what could not be a clearer case of self defense, and eventually he managed to wrestle it away and shot the thief in the chest before the thief could take it back. The thief and Diarra are both stable and recovering in hospital.

Here's the mind-bogglingly ridiculous part:

Diarra is being charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon! - yes, the same weapon Diarra just wrestled away from the thief who was trying to kill him with it!
 
Incredibly unjust, but not at all surprising in soft-on-crime NYC, where over 50% of felonies get downgraded to misdemeanors and then the charges get dropped, but if you try to defend yourself in any way, you are going to get the book thrown at you.

The alleged thief, 59-year-old Charles Rhodie, has also been charged (as he should) with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, along with a burglary charge. Based on the last couple of years, all charges against him will likely be dropped, although they probably won't give him the gun back.

This is how 'justice' works in NYC, where the victims of crime are the criminals, and those who try to stop crime are prosecuted (persecuted) to the full extent of the law.
