I have been having an issue with my GPU running really hot since last night. I have a particular game that reboots after 5 minutes of running. The outdoor temperature and humidity seems to be assisting in this overheating process. Are there any tests that I can run to rule out what is or isn't probable for the cause of this cooling problem?

Specs:
CPU - AMD Windsor AM2 socket 3.2Ghz
Motherboard - MSI K9A2 CF
Memory - G.SKill 2x2GB (4 GB total) DDR2 800
Video Card - EVGA Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX+ 256 MB
OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
PSU - Mustiff 800 (800 watts)

Voltages/Temperatures Image (Idle Processing)

GPU Report Image (5 minutes of GPU Stress)

Keep in mind that the GPU Report was taken after a storm front blew in and cooled things off a bit. The cooler outdoor temp seems to have cooled off the GPU a fair amount.

    Hello
Is that a factory overclock on that 9800 or did you overclock it. If its yours maybe just back it down to factory settings until the heat breaks. Have you tested that OC with EVGA OC Scanner or some other stress program to see if it is stable?
The reason I ask is my 9800GTX+ is set @ core 738  shader 1836 and memory 1100 from the factory.
    Just a thought....

The overclock is apparently factory. I didn't know it was overclocked actually.  I'm still learning the concepts and processes on how overclocking works so if you wanted to give me a little intro to altering speeds then I'd appreciate it. I did try using the CPU overclock utility tool provided by the manufacturer and blue screened if I made any adjustments at all. I did some research on it and understood that my motherboard doesn't support overclocking so I uninstalled the tool. The current OS is only 2 weeks old and I have not made any clock adjustments to any of my hardware since then.

Ok if it a factory OC than all I can think of is when your gaming set your fan speed manually to 100% with Precision.

How is the airflow in your case, these cards do run hot and should have a good airflow over them. Maybee add a fan to the side of your case to increase airflow on the videocard. You say it started with the heat and humidity which might mean you need some better airflow inside your case.

I ran a stress test to see how stable it is. Threshold was set at 100 C by default.

    Time: 13 mins
    Temp: 96 C
    Fan Speed: 100%
    FPS: Roughly 320

No hicups but I don't like that it gets that hot.  I'll provide some links to my case and the fans I'm using so you can see images and specs.

    Chasis model: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146025
(2 Fans) Fan in front and on Side of Chasis: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103060
1 Fan in the back below the power supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999344

The GPU cools off from 85 C to 60 C in about 5 seconds and then cools off to 55 C within another 5 seconds. So I think airflow in the case itself is fine. It could just be the fan is getting clogged (waiting on a can of air to blow it out tomorrow). But this thing has never run on the cool end. It usually doesn't give me temperature issues unless humidity levels get around 60% and 80 F or higher.

Have you considered taking apart your card cleaning/inspecting/regooping? I've done mine 3 times already and it's cool as a cucumber.
I run the fan at 85% and max it goes to 50º and that's when the room is 34ºc.  Temps are too high..

I did that about half a year ago but I was getting more like 72 C afterward at high stress. I wonder if my model has a different cooling fan or something. I've debated shopping for a mountable VGA cooler to replace the stock one.

Edit: It may be worth mentioning that I run in 1920X1080 resolution.

I run 1920x1200..the same more or less. What case/fans do you have?
do you have some level of cable management in the case? My older psu  had a huge amount of cables sitting between the front fans and the gpu..EVGA does give a lifetime warranty on their cards.. no? then maybe send it in..

Here is a previous post in the thread answering your question about the fans. The links are the product listings at newegg (where I bought them) and they provide specs and images of the chassis and fans.

As far as the cables go. No cables are blocking the main airflow. I have them tied together in a bunch and then hanging over by the empty drive slots on the front end of the chassis.

If all else fails I may look into that lifetime warranty. I don't have a different rig to use while I'm waiting on a replacement or whatever they would decide to do about it. So I'd rather not go without the computer for a while unless absolutely necessary.

Any ideas without buying something to assist with cooling? I bought the chassis fans cause the stock ones were not keeping it cool enough and was running fine for about a year. Now all of a sudden its getting excessively hot. I tried moving the stronger fan (one that was in back for exhaust) to the side for intake and it is a little cooler on idle. I ran another stress test and it reboot on me about 13 minutes in (threshold set to 100 C). Could the fan in front be causing bad airflow or something? The cords are not in the way of the main fans so I don't think there is any blockage.
