This is why I said I agree'd with your overall conclusion.
...
For audio engineers in particular, having those higher bitrates and sample rates to record to is a must for a top teir quality recording.

Ok, good. We are on the same page.

If you listen to the second video (really good!) I provided above, he has the exact same conclusion.

You can not watch a couple youtube video's and then assume you know all there is to know about a subject, just because someone you watched in a video spoke with confidence on a subject.

I think you will be surprised by how good the second video is, and by how much you will agree with everything he says.

Here it is again:

I think this topic has been beaten to death many times over, and the OP has had his issue explained. Let's move on. :)

I am still trying to figure out what "standard CD/DVD quality bitrates" are. Are they 24-bit depth at 48 kHz sample frequency?

Well, I prefer to set sampling rate same as audio source. Nu Audio has two clocks - one for 44.1 and one for 48 khz. Set base sampling rate as an integer multiplier of the source sampling rate. Don't make the system convert 44.1 to 48 and vice versa.

As for the bit rate, I may be wrong but keeping it high is always good as it minimizes the reduction in dynamic range by low volumes set in system mixer.

Actually, high sampling rates are fine when you run DSD (but why?). Also they are really great for studio usage since you can record the data with best possible quality for all your downmixing needs. Its as simple as flac - a difference or no, use the best because you can.

CD standard is 16bit/44.1 khz. DVD used 48khz. Modern hi-rez audio runs 24bit/44.1 or 24bit/48. Vynil copies are done in different modes depending on the releaser. 192 khz/24 bit is what I see a lot (lets leave all the vynil analog business out of this topic)

Thanks. I am currently trying out the 24bit/48 setting in a few games.

Windows states thus:

16-bit, 44.1kHz is "CD Quality" and 16-bit, 48 kHz is "DVD Quality." Anything higher is "Studio Quality."
