I was doing the XC3 Hybrid kit, and I noticed that the instructions mention that there should be thermal pads between the pcb and the metal back plate, but my card didn't have any. Is that normal? Would that affect the card thermally? If so, what sort of thermal pads should I use for that area, if you can recommend some. Thanks.

For the 3090 with the memory on the back, yes it'd matter. With a 3080, not so much. If you covered the the hot spots on the back of the card you might get 2 or 3C better temperatures at those hot spots - no, it won't really matter.

I'm guessing that they reused the instructions between the 3090 and 3080.

If I wanted that small improvement, what thermal pads would you recommend?

It DOES matter on FTW3 tho. Up to 7C temp drops and +15 mhz more stability on core. MUST be for FTW3

The instructions that state removing the thermal pads from the rear, also state that it only applies to the 3090.

Yes you can get your own and apply them which will help some thermal dissipation from the card and into the backplate as steamroller says.

Not sure why they didn't just apply some from the factory to aid in more cooling though. Would have been a fairly cheap option to add you'd think.

What type of thermal pads should I get? Any links from Amazon that anyone can provide?

Did you ever find some replacement pads? Or how thick are the pads that come on the card?
