Game runs fine to me. but it seems like the overall graphics are worse than in FO3. i mean, skin texture looks updated and the game looks cleaner, but for some reason the cleaner look makes it look slightly worse.

Can you possibly expand on how you found this & what you did with the DLL to correct the issue.
Edit -  Never mind found it on the previous page.  May just break down & get this game.
Cheers...

I have several issues, but none of them are bugs that wont be worked out with drivers, and patches.

1 Problems being able to click on certain selections. (have to exit the menu, then come back before the option can be selected.)

2 For some reason, I am having white squares pop up on the srceen randomly. Not single pixel atrifacts, but like 30x30 squares, not that bad but they happen somewhat often.

3 I have noticed that at times, the kill cam when you use vats, is extremly long, the only way to get out of it is to fire another round.

4 After passing through doors, will fire 1 round, without clicking.

That white spot thing is annoying it's not frequent but just enough to be noticed. At first I thought it might be my OC, but even at stock it still happens.

So much work to do... someone has to do it.

^what he said, luckily im not having problems with white spots. i was just getting horrible frame rate spikes around npcs, i did however find a bug. if you try to mod the weathered 10mm pistol with any of the 10mm mods, like the red bot or silencer, the screen turns all white. if i switch to a different weapon its fine, so it must be the addition of the mod on that weapon and the game not having a model for it, my best guess anyway.

I am currently using the D3D9.DLL and Water Multisampling set to Low and the stuttering is gone. Now when i move my mouse really fast I still get 60fps when around 10NPC's, sometimes dips to 56fps but much better than before when it was dipping to low 10's and 20's causing extreme stuttering.

Leave it to the community to fix the problem before Bethesda can. I'll be certainly trying this out as soon as I can. Cant wait to go into a casino and actually be able to walk without bumping into everything.

The d3d9.dll fix worked fine for me, went from 10-30 fps to 55-60 on 8x/15x ultra. I can finally play!

I'm running it 1920x1080 on Ultra with 4xAA and 8xAF, it runs around 50 frames until I look at certain objects. It dipped down to 17 frames looking at some dust swirling around. I dropped the settings to High and got rid of AA, but it's performing exactly the same. I'm using the 196.21 drivers, they've given me the best frames for every other game, but I'm going to update later on and see if anything changes. Also, I'm in-game right now watching the Pip Boy sway back and forth as I type, and there's a noticeable frameskip every 8 seconds, roughly.

FOUND A FIX!! Turn everything to the max EXCEPT:

Water Multisampling: Set to LOW
__________________________

After changing this setting and this setting ONLY, the game ran smooth as silk. The second even one of them is enabled to even medium, BAM, microstutter all over the place.

This worked for my GTX 280 SLI. Using 260.89 drivers

Well I just went in to find this, my Water options are both set to low already with all the water features unchecked... probably why water for me has looked like a flat poly with no color, it confused me as to what it was the first time I saw it. Anyway, looks like this isn't going to work for me. I'll try the D3D9.dll fix next.

I found something else to try Download d3d9.dll and drag/drop in to your Fallout New Vegas folder. (/steamapps/common/fallout new vegas (Same location as falloutNV.exe))

It helped a bunch of people for the NPC slowdown here: http://forums.bethsoft.co...ear-npcs/page__st__140

It is supposed to fix the low GPU utilization and the lag when multiple NPC are on the screen.

EDIT: fixed link

Big Thumbs up mate! I just applied this and went straight to a casino. FPS is locked at 60 where previously it was 5-10.

Big thanks! First post has been edited to make this easy to find.

Re:New Vegas - Terrible Performance 2010/10/23 23:27:52 (permalink)
Since there are a bunch of performance fixes in here I just thought I'd drop one that hasn't been said yet.

As I'm sure many of you remember, FO3 and FNV both suffer from the same microstutter. Maybe you haven't noticed it, or are placebo-ed into believing you're stutter free by the dll fix (which I tried, and love ). Well, I assure you it's there and it's fixed the same way as it was in FO3.
There are three ini's that need to be edited, two are in Documents\My Games\FalloutNV (fallout.ini and falloutprefs.ini) and one in the steam fallout folder (where the dll needed to be dropped, fallout_defaults.ini) all of which you need to search for ifpsclamp. After finding that, judge whether to set it at 30 or 60, depending on your average framerates. Many of you should be locked at 60, so just put it at 60. The microstutter will be gone, but beware that if you go above 60 fps or below 60 fps, you will suffer from a fast-forwarded game or a slow-motion game. Either way, try it out for yourself and see if you like it. The microstutter annoyed me and this fixed it, and I have yet to drop below 60 anyway so...

Yeah. Idk if everyone has microstutter by I did (in both 3 and NV) and this fixed it, so good luck!

Good info dyno,
i did roll back to my older version of drivers.
i still see the white spots and it still crashes every so often.
i was hopeing that the old driver would fix the crashing.
i had done a vid driver update close to the time they updated the game and now it crashes every so often.
this did not happen the first 12-14 hours of play only after the update,

Re:New Vegas - Terrible Performance 2010/10/24 10:22:02 (permalink)
People seem to start crashing a lot more once they get into the double digits of play time. I'm around 9 hours (had to wait until Friday to get it >.>) and have yet to crash, but I'm probably in for it sooner or later. FO3 used to crash on me all the time so I'm used to pressing F5 every 5 minutes. The white squares are really annoying too.

I'm amazed at how they, either, didn't notice all of the problems or just blatantly disregarded them. I've felt like a beta tester this whole time. But, it's obsidian. This is actually one of their less glitchier games... . Bethesda won't let this happen again hopefully, FO4 will be thoroughly tested. I'd rather have had this game come out in a couple months than have all of these problems.

By the way, the ifpsclamp trick makes your gun fly around randomly when you crouch or run. It doesn't affect gameplay, but it is something that I've noticed. If you like having your gun in the right place then don't change it .

Re:New Vegas - Terrible Performance 2010/10/24 12:41:30 (permalink)
once I applied the DLL fix, and set the water sampling to low it plays perfect for me performance wise

DLL fixes the slowdown around many NPC's (especially inside buildings)
setting water sampling to low gets rid of the stuttering when walking around outside. (about 95% of the game your not around water anyway so this is a minor loss)

The only thing I need a fix for now is the white spots, cause I get them too occasionally, they just flash briefly and don't have any idea why, and the occasional crashes to desktop after long hours of play.

Don't feel too bad guys...

Even the 5970 seems to be losing this battle.

he needs the D3D9.DLL fix, it will happen to everyone, no matter what card is in the system.

The screenshots he posted is the first place I noticed it too, a couple missions into the game.

for all we know they know about the glitches but it could just be codeing conflicts that "would" take monthes to track down change and find a way to make it work without the conflict.
its nothing to bad its just annoying to have to restart. i am one of the people that do a hard save every time i walk into a new area or feel like i might try something. i have a save for every significant decision i made. then i have random saves cuz i am afraid to die.

I'm the same way, I use the quicksave constantly, the auto save is nice for entering/exiting places, and I create a manual gamesave every once in a while that I can fall back on incase I get stuck in certain decissions or battles and rethink my strategy to try again.

i wouldnt need so many saves if i had multiple quick save slots.
