    I have this:
$100 shipped, it's the copper base. Paid like $140, and now they're super hard to find.

Where did you get that?  That's the EK chipset waterblock.I tried to order one from them and they said they ran out and the product is End of Line.

I can respect wanting consistency where all the major parts are being liquid cooled,  and it does look more elite and clean and professional.

But, FWIW, the TDP rating for the ICH10R is just 4.5W while X58 ICH is rated at 24.1W -- as much as 8 times less than any overclocked CPU.  If your chipsets get hotter than you like, that is because the stock cooler isn't up to par.  It doesn't mean all other chipset sinks available are bad leaving liquid as the only choice.

That said, I am well aware of the very massive chipset waterblock market with all the options out there available for years-- that doesn't mean chipsets need water cooling, it just means there is demand for it.  Demand doesn't indicate anything about preferences, which is the reason why folks go for liquid cooling; but not need.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].

I'm replacing my dying X58 Sli borad with this new classified.  My old motherboard is liquid cooled and I just wanted to make my life easier without having to redoing my cooling loop. It also makes a nice clean look.
