Somehow I seriously doubt the boost clock on a dual gpu card will be 100 MHz faster than what is offered on the 780 classified out of the box. If anything it's going to be 100 MHz slower than the base gtx 780.

I also can't wait to see the outrageous price tag for this card if it does come out. I would expect around a $1300-$1400 price tag.

Whenever you find specs online, you have to analyze it for realism based on what has been done.  Don't put in faith without investigating.

Stock GTX780's 2304-core base clock was 863MHz, boost of 900MHz; stock GTX Titan's 2688-core base clock was 832MHz, boost 876MHz. In all probability, a 2496-core GeForce single GPU would have base and boost in between, 847MHz and 888MHz, respectively.

All nVidia dual-GPU graphics cards (except the first one, GeForce 7800GX2, which was an OEM experiment made just for Alienware in winter of 2005) had lower frequencies than the single GPU variant just to reduce power consumption and maintain competitive advantage of getting two single-GPU cards in SLI.  Both GPU and Vram share power circuitry, that why the dual-GPU card isn't a double of one card's power.

nVidia won't cannibalize their products-- except if competition tries to steal customers or can't react.

Considering the fact that only because GTX680 used a GK104 and made it a 195W card, that GTX690 became a 300W card with a slight down clock (10% downclock for the pair allowed for a 53% power increase).  Compare that with GTX580 which was a 244W card with a GF110 at shader frequency of 1562MHz against the GTX590 with a pair of GF110 downclocked to 1242MHz just to keep it at 365W (25% downclock for the pair allowed for a 49% power increase)-- this is the scenario that a GTX790 is looking at since each single-GK110 graphics card is in the range of GTX580's power.

Meaning, GTX790's base clock may be as low as 700MHz just to keep the total power of the card in the 300-350W range and maintain the appeal of still getting a pair of 780 or Titan in terms of performance-- unless nVidia felt AMD would threaten their cash cows with their upcoming next gen cards, there is no way the base clock would be above 900MHz.

FYI, Tesla K20 also has 2496-CUDA cores and a reference base clock of 706MHz with 320-bit 5GB Vram rated as a 225W card.  If we used the 680/690 logic on the Tesla card, then the dual-GK110 version could be 642MHz base drawing 346W.  But that assumes a pair of 320-bit 5GB, not a pair of 384-bit 6GB.  So either way the power draw will be high despite the lower base clock.

nVidia could always shrink the GK110 die, then similar from GTX280's 65nm G200 at 236W to GTX295's pair of 55nm G200b's put it at 289W, then the dual-GPU card would only add 25% power because the dies were shrunk, thus GTX790 could be a 312W card-- if nVidia shrunk the dies...

You been here for half a second with 4 posts and you expect us to believe something that is not normal when it comes to a dual GPU card? I can't think of an Nvidia Dual GPU card that has ever had a clock speed that either matched or exceeded its Single GPU counterpart.

These specs make no sense. Lehpron has already done an excellent job explaining why the claimed clock speeds are too high, but the claimed memory specs are also impossible.

The memory type/clock/bus width do not agree. If it is a dual GPU card then the bus is actually 2x 384-bit. Given that the claimed memory clock speeds are the same as the GTX TITAN/GTX 780 this should be 2x 288 GB/sec = 576 GB/sec, not 404 GB/sec.

That said, if Nvidia were to release a "GTX 790" based on 2x GK110 GPUs, the performance would be lower than 2 GTX 780s in SLI, not higher.

    @ lehpron

There was no 7800 GX2, it was the 7900 GX2, sorry as a GX2 collector I am very precise when it comes to GX2 namings

Here the 4 real GX2's from left to right:

    GeForce 7900 GX2 PCI-E 1024MB 512Bit GDDR3 [ in practical 2x 512MB 256Bit GDDR3]
    Geforce 7950 GX2 PCI-E 1024MB 512Bit GDDR3 [In practical 2x 512MB 256Bit GDDR3]
    GeForce 9800 GX2 PCI-E 1024MB 512Bit GDDR3 [in practical 2x 512MB 256Bit GDDR3]
    GeForce GTX 295 Dual PCB PCI-E 1792MB 896 Bit GDDR3 [In practical 2x 896MB 448Bit GDDR3]

Here their actual retail names of those cards:

EVGA GeForce 7900 GTX Duo aka GeForce 7900 GX2
    MSI GeForce 7950 GX2
    XFX Pine Group GeForce 9800 GX2 GX2
EVGA GeForce GTX 295 Red Edition

The later GX2 style cards were made on a single PCB to reduce production costs and also easier to maintain and clean.
The Single PCB GX2 style cards are the following:

    GeForce GTX 295 Single PCB 1792MB 896 Bit GDDR3 [In practical 2x 896MB 448Bit GDDR3]
    GeForce GTX 590 PCI-E 3072MB 768Bit GDDR5  [In practical 2x 1536MB 384Bit GDDR5]
    GeForce GTX 690 PCI-E 4096MB 512Bit GDDR5 [In practical 2x 2048MB 256Bit GDDR5]

These cards are the official GX2 style cards, however a true GX2 always has two PCB's and not one hehe.

I'll concede to that since I had thought it was based on 7800GTX since it appeared before 7950 GX2 did, hence branding as 7800 GX2. I agree though, the "Gx2" suffix only made sense with dual PCBs, and that stopped.

7800 GX2 is the incorrect naming, the 7900 GX2 was NVIDIA's first GX2 style card, I know this as I have collected all original GX2 designs, the 7800 GX2 may have been from a 3rd party company, it was never an original NVIDIA design, you are confused with 7900 GX2, ASUS did do a 7800 GS Dual, but this was again no original NVIDIA GX2 design, but from that of a 3dfx party company ala ASUS.

the 7900 GX2 was based on the G71 GPU as where the 7800 GTX had the G70 GPU ;) The G71 was a smaller refresh of the G70.

Here more about GeForce 7900 GX2:
    http://www.bit-tech.net/h...sli_geforce_7900_gx2/1

The 7950 GX2 was a refresh of the 7900 GX2 as where the 7900 GX2 was only intended for the OEM market, OEM partners Leadtek, EVGA, Gainward & PNY made these cards in very little numbers.

To have something like this for the retail market they needed to have something much smaller, the 7950 GX2 was their answer. the 7950 GX2 like 7900 GX2 both use G71 GPU's.
