It is vital that people understand -everything- that interfaces with the videocards must be TURNED OFF COMPLETLY. Precision, Afterburner, Desktop monitoring widgets ect If there is any question, turn it off before uninstalling your old drivers and for the duration of the new driver install. "nvcplui.exe process would not fully initialize" it was hanging and you had to kill it and then reboot... -->Then you clearly had somekind of installer failure or glitch. It is a Beta with a totally new installer design. ---> I would uninstall, and reinstall until it works correctly. Something borked for sure. Never had a problem before and I will continue to use keep them programs running as it didn't pose a problem before. I'm sorry its postings like that, that destroy proper installs, can damage hardware or otherwise result in terrible problems for many people. I'm glad it works for you and you dont "see" any problems. You are most welcome to do whatever works best on your system. But what about other people? and the hardware THEY paid for? If you cannot be bothered to READ, the programs listed (and others) -have- known issues and known conflicts. Just because YOU dont have issues, does not mean there are none. Come on guys, its time to think about other people and try and help them out. Not boast about how you can drive while sitting in the backseat. Many users are having terrible problems Isnt it worth turning off a few programs for a couple on minutes before doing a driver install? -How about thinking of other people and trying to help them solve serious problems- *to the folks with issues: Dont listen to people who dont know what they are talking about. They are NOT using your hardware config and they really dont care about helping you fix your problems. There are KNOWN issues running background programs while installing videocard drivers. There are KNOWN issues running different programs (at the same time) that monitor videocard functions Anyone who posts up differently, does not know what they are talking about If you are having problems, try turning off all programs that monitor or adjust videocards Precision, Afterburner, Everest, Speedfan, all desktop monitoring widgets...etc Getting your videocard and drivers working correctly is the goal. Shuting down a few programs will not hurt anything and "could" solve problems and issues. Its certainly worth trying I agree, its not hard to just turn off a few background programs when when installing drivers. Especially considering, you have to restart, which will reopen them upon startup. I personally like to... Uninstall everything related to the old driver. Reboot into Safe Mode. Run DriverSweeper on Nvidia - Video and Nvidia - PhysX. Reboot into Normal. Close out all programs on the Taskbar. Then install the latest driver. Reboot. Then make all the setting changes I need to get it back to how I had it previously. I know the DriverSweeper part isnt necessary, but I'm a bit anal about getting a clean install.

In the interest of honesty, I should note that I have not installed these drivers. I am very old school. My current drivers are working perfectly. So there is no reason to "rush" and install this new set. In fact there are good reasons not to install these for 2-3 days... --> while "others" try them out and find the problems and bugs. Nvida QC has dropped the ball in a serious manner 2-3 times in the last 6 months, and I am in no hurry to find out what they missed in this major update. I will let others do that for me. For alot of people this new driver is a "hail mary" that will decide if they RMA their cards or simply go ATI... For those dealing with issues on the older drivers, they really need a fix so whats important today as they install this new driver set, is a proper and clean install. For those users with HUGE issues and the 400 series, I would have to suggest a full reformat and fresh OS install with these new drivers, and to do it as cleanly as possible. It's the only way to know for sure before they ditch the cards.

squall-leonhart nativeson8803 I've noticed some better performance in BFBC2 but I can't get into the Nvidia Control panel and I just keep seeing a little circle indicating it's working on it. I might roll back, but I'll test them for another day or so. are you using kaspersky at all? it causes these issues when the registry/osfirewall protection is enabled, and even KAV itself makes the control panel lag. No, but I rebooted like somebody else said and now the problem is gone. I'm glad they are getting me some more fps outta Bad Company!

@ Nativeson8803 Depends If your going from the 25x.xx drivers to this new set, I would uninstall in Programs and Features.. reboot into safe mode, run the latest (last weeks update) driver sweeper, reboot and install from the DESKTOP. It does look like once your on the 260.xx set, the new Nvidia Uninstaller/Installer will work much better than driver sweeper or other programs like DC or CC, given that the new "clean install" has all the file, folder, registry info and new "admin rights" functions with all the correct installer paths. In fact running those cleaners may be a really BAD idea now.... we will have to see what happens. Thats what BETA is all about

I've tried a bunch, Windows Media Player, Real Player, VLC, K-Lite, Divx Player and none work in surround. But as soon as I disable surround they all work. Doubt it's a DRM issue since outside of surround playback is fine.

maniacvvv badboy64 Where are the 3D Vision drivers. I can't even use it at all. It says that I don't have the USB driver installed when I try the wizard. See? Thats what I'm talking about in my post above. Maybe he should have turned some stuff off first? Thats my POINT He either "forgot" to check the box to install the 3d drivers, or his driver install encountered a conflict. --> So much for Badboy64 and his posted "I never have a problem"... I already have the USB installed but it is for the 258 driver and the light is green and the 3D Vision setup doesn't recognize it at all saying it needs the USB driver. Do you even have that kind of setup? I doubt you do. I installed the 3D Vision drivers along with the driver setup itself. There isn't any USB driver with this setup at all for the 260 drivers. I always leave programs on when installing drivers and never had this problem before. You wouldn't know what is going on with my system to begin with.

badboy64 maniacvvv badboy64 Where are the 3D Vision drivers. I didnt say I did. I was just pointing out you said you NEVER had any problems using running background apps during Nvidia driver installs. Then you came back 15mins later and had PROBLEMS. The intent was not to diss you bro. -->I just wanted those users who have been having issues to turn things OFF before installing this new driver set. I belive you made my point for me, thats why I posted. You have a very impressive setup and I'm sure you want everything working correctly -just like everyone else- Taking a few seconds to properly shut everything off before a driver install, is always a good idea worth trying.

CraptacularOne Afterburner CraptacularOne Installed these a while ago and I have one problem with them. While in surround if I attempt to play any movie file, AVI, WMV, or MPG I get a BSOD. If I disable surround then movies play fine again. A bit annoying having to disable surround if I want to watch a video on my PC then re enable and reconfigure surround every time. I'm thinking this has got to be something Nvidia changed with the surround driver. As it doesn't happen if I use standard SLI. In standard SLI movies play fine, but as soon as I select "span displays" movie play back goes to hell. Anyone else with surround have anything like this going on? hmmmm. Off to see if I can duplicate this... Thanks for telling us Crap!! Let me know if you can repeat it. Our setups are very similar. Boy do I ever... I do not have the pleasure of getting the actual blue screen though. My system just freezes and restarts on it's own... Here is what it says when it re-starts.... Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional information about the problem: BCCode: 116 BCP1: FFFFFA800C28A4E0 BCP2: FFFFF8801013CCF8 BCP3: FFFFFFFFC00000B5 BCP4: 000000000000000A OS Version: 6_1_7600 Service Pack: 0_0 Product: 256_1 Previous drivers did not do this... I am rolling back...

@Afterburner Just a wild guess...Try looking for the following on your system. Mszx23.exe. or Vdmt16.sys or Vdnt32.sys If you find any or all of them let me know. Like I said, its a wild guess based on the error posted...

yellow__fever What do you guys think about the "clean install" option when you're installing these drivers? its not really new, back when the drivers were still labelled forceware, Quadro versions of the installer would prompt you to uninstall the current drivers and the newer would install on reboot.
