I believe this was inevitable. Now all the copyright supporters will rally round it.

Ya its going to cause a "chain" reaction with the copyright people with this policy being implemented. Heck maybe this is just in a making for something more serious. This could be the infant stage of it.

Not that I pirate, but give me a break....  I don't use McAfee and never will...  I would go without anti-virus before I use McAfee...  If I ever decide I want to pirate, and I have McAfee installed, i guess the solution would be to uninstall it.

Note to Pirates:  If you steal/borrow/backup whatever, uninstall software that keeps you from accomplishing your goal.  Wow...  that's hard... What a joke!  Nice police world!

One of the major arguments that people who pirate produce is that they 'didn't know' the website in question was a pirate website full of illegal material. With this type of antivirus installed they would have no excuse.

The company who controls the software that detects "copyrighted material" gets to say what is allow and what isn't.  Can you not see how easy it would be for them to censor the internet.

IMO it would give corporations way too much power. Lets say a  review site bashes a product and uses a image of it, whats stopping the maker of that product filing a DMCA over the fair use image and causing that website to be flagged on McAfee bs software.

I don't know why people say that every time a tool is made that it should be taken away because it's possible for it to be misused.
Yes it's possible that "X" could be misused to do something other than what it's intended to do, but I don't see that as meaning that "X" shouldn't exist in any form.

The sad question is, would anyone buy it, or would they continue to use the links..  very philosophical question that is most disturbing lol.

In my mind, analogous to the only way to reduce trash is to just use less in order to waste less (by going after the source and not symptoms), therefore the only way to stop pirating is to control the use of whatever is being pirated either by:
    1. Quit making it available for personal use or one-time individual sale, and have movies/music/software accessed from another place entirely, either at the store or create a new venue that allows for accessing analogous to a shared bank account.  I think this is what Netflix and others are doing.
    2. Make it free to access/use and get revenue some other way, maybe through advertisement or something; like free-to-play games, but not installed on your own computer and will require always online.  I think this is the future of gaming where rendering is done elsewhere and the future PC is just a terminal kiosk.
    3. combine #1 and #2.

They already have this kinda technology somewhat, the virus scanners will think its a threat when its nothing but a false positive.

For them to completely block it they would have to remove the feuture in the virus scanner where you can set it to ignore certain folders. Thats how people get around it.

I just thought about that you can use a program to control your virus protection. I seen it before but can't think of the name.So if you have to use McAfee like for example on your company computer, you can find that one program I am talking about. But I still would not understand why anyone would want to use this protection in the first place. It sucks compared to other protections like Malwarebytes and Spybot Search & Destroy. McAfee is as good as Norton is which goes to show that its sucks.

lol i find it funny that McAfee is even bothering developing new tech when they by definition have a program considered a virus as it hogs the system and runs poorly.

I am totally not a pirate. I will totally go out and spend 60$ for a single play-through game which I will never again touch. I totally condone this action  . They will never stop pirates, ever. Get a warning? Ok I'll just move to a... Seedbox I think is what it's called? Unless they move to cloud gaming (which I don't think is even in the testing stages yet, don't quote me on that) it will never be stopped, no matter how hard they try.
